Christened my new wheels properly yesterday, nothing better than planning what I think is my first imperial century on what was one of the hottest days of the year. No dirt on the ground luckily so bike stayed much cleaner than some of you :D

Got round to about 60 miles after stopping for some lunch, and my friend started cramping up unfortunately, so we took it easy to get him home, which was another 20 or so miles, then carried on for a bit more to complete the century. Great day out building my tan lines and settling the wheels in.

Wheels

The wheels were fantastic, they're not like my disc/tri spoke in that once you're rolling you can feel them really wanting to roll, becuase they're quite light (1.4kg total) But once you're up above 18mph, you do notice it being a fair bit easier. Braking performance was absolutely fine once I wore in the pads, almost on a par with my normal alloy wheels (basalt brake track) But the best bit of all is they look BAD ASS! :D

Only downside is the valve rattling around, must have tightened up the valve holder about 25 times yesterday, whenever we stopped! Put some electrical tape over them now, but anyone got any better suggestions? Jonny///M?

Photo from the day of a scarecrow festival we passed :D

Is that you or your mate having an affair with Mrs Scarecrow?:D

Can you remind me which wheels you bought and where from?

Cheers!

I'm in the sky gear! Only bloke who can pull off wearing it when it's given to you by Brailsford! :-P

need to ask a question..

Race caps

anyone got one or similar ?

my Castelli Sottile Due is hard to zip up especially at next point where there's extra material around the zip, if I cant do this up off the bike, I'm not going to do it whilst on the bike when it starts raining !

any ideas?

Thanks

Terrible ride for me yesterday. Felt a bit rough the night before but put it down to the heat. Out on the road I just had nothing. 10bpm over what I would normally be. Struggled round 35 miles before calling it a day. Felt so rough yesterday, very dizzy and weak. Slightly better today but no energy. Must be a virus. It better go soon before I surrender 20% vo2 max!

Short 10 mile circuit tonight to see how i am back on the bike. Speed wasn't too bad, short of where i was before but there's no power there at all. Need to get on the bike a lot over the next few months.

EDIT

What grease do people use when they put their seatposts or handlebar post into their frames? I had noticed there was a bit of a dirt build up recently so need to get that cleaned up.

Lithium grease is probably your best bet on an alloy frame, anti-seize on a carbon frame. I have a tub of weldtite tf2 grease that's done me for a couple of years and I've barely used any of it.

You don't want anti-seize for a carbon frame/seatpost interface - you want carbon assembly compound. Pretty much the opposite of anti-seize.

Solid.

Drinking straw, cut down one side if needed, slot over the valve extension then hold it in place with a tiny blob of super glue on the valve extension.

So, as I spent so much time unsuccessfully trying to fix my rear brake I ran of time to swap out the gear cables and overhaul the front chainrings, cranks and peddles. Riding in today with dodgy gears, no (well, it has about 10% normal power) rear brake and a clicky/creaky set of cranks was awesome...

Dropping my bike off at the LBS at lunch time. Unless I spend substantial amounts of time fixing up my turbo bike to be ridable it's bye-bye cycling for most of this week. Waa :/
