Noting your location, is it the Derby Spring Classic? I'm booked in for the 100 miles also but woefully under prepared! Not had a free weekend where I'm staying with the bike and able to get in rides over 35-40 miles that I can do through the week, so thinking of doing the 50 miles instead!

Yup that's the one, doing it with a bunch of the guys from work, they are doing either the 50 miler or 100 miler. Right now I wish there was an in between one as I would do that!

Saytan, I like the timing of the GCN video out today all about that subject! :p I had a feel of my sitbones on the saddle, I think I am sitting too far forward on the nose with the saddle. I have noted the original position and moved it forward 5mm to see if that helps, probably do a bit of turbo work tomorrow night to see.

Yeah, doing it with a mate from work, I reckon he'll manage the 100 miler fine, but i'll struggle! There's a decent whack of elevation, but seems fairly flat/downhill from the 50 mile marker onwards...

Got my new single speed/fixie yesterday, same model as VonHelmets, the Genesis Flyer. Absolutely love it. The steel frame feels buttery smooth to ride and looks amazing too. The wheels look a bit cheap but it doesn't really matter.

Fitted the fixed gear on the flip flop hub last night....may give it a test ride round the block tonight!

Which one is his and which one is hers?

Does anyone know where I can find a spacer big enough to put an 8-speed cassette on my Kickr (It's 11 speed)?

Going to pop my old mountain bike on there for a bit, so that I don't have to keep moving the road bike on and off, especially as we get into better weather where I can ride everyday.

I haven't. I feel left out :(

That said, I think we should get rid of some people that are in the OcUK group but clearly not part of OcUK. Happy Chap for instance, who doesn't seem to be on here and likes to post his 27mph average for 40 mile spin sessions...

I've not actually ridden mine to work yet! I'm going to change the tyres as I've not heard great things about the stock ones. I picked up a parcel from the post office this morning with some new ones. I had to unpack the parcel there and stick it all in my pannier then take the cardboard box over to the recycling bin at tesco!

So yeah, so far it's just sat in my shed. It is very pretty, though! I may buikd myself some single speed wheels next year, depending on how the stock ones fare.

Take care if you're going to try riding fixed. You need the chain good and tight on a single speed as it is, and particularly so for fixed gear.

Got the week off and was planning to do a 70 mile ride but I was kind of dreading the prospect so I've decided not to bother. TBH I'm pretty annoyed that I allowed myself to be talked into this 100 mile sportive when I wanted to do the 50. Trying to plan in long rides in preparation feels like a bit of a chore. 30 - 40 mile solo rides are great, time to clear my head and stretch the legs but anything more than that just feels like miles for the sake of it :(
Kudos for getting your hack bike sorted at the start of your week off! This week weather wise is meant to be good too so good skills! Don't dread the Sportive! You'll only then focus on the negatives, consider it a challenge! :)

I went from doing ~30-40 mile max rides to a hilly 56 last year and it just about finished me, I was utterly at my limit for that. This year I've tried to focus on occasionally extending these weekend rides up towards 50, which did mean the couple of rides over 50 I easily coped with and it wasn't until I did my 'big day' sportive+journey home where I really felt near my 'limit' again at ~84 miles. Equally I felt I could've pushed this up to 100 without much more effort. Maybe not 16 miles of hill climbs, but 'normal' riding. And it wouldn't be very fast lol ;)
Are there any places you fancy visiting 35-45 miles away? Go there and back to split up a longer ride, taking a break for a nice lunch or sight seeing.
Good suggestion. Even visiting family/friends will break up the rides is enough - so you're doing 2 easily managed (~35 mile) rides well within your means, but with a couple of hours gap. That's 70 miles! :D

The other thing to consider is that it's just 1 day. If you're well rested, as prepared as you can be, pacing yourself and taking your time, you can complete it. It doesn't matter if you have to stop at each food station, it doesn't matter how slow you go after the climbs recovering, it doesn't matter if you treat it like a social occasion (chatting really passes the miles/time). If you're anything like me, the hours in the saddle taking a toll on your sit bones are what hurt the most!:D
What are you guys doing in them :D Mine after roughly 1200 miles and quite a bit of walking. (excuse the double layer overshoes, it was cold!)
Mine are nowhere near as bad as that but I do have actual holes in them on the left toe. Not in the DHB!

Mine have been worn with SPD and SPD-SL.
I heard there's a new OcUK Sa Calobra KOM and he's one sexy mofo to boot.
Good work & glad to hear you're enjoying yourself! Ride safe and for gods sake take some pictures to add to Strava to make us more jealous! :p
Cycling home last night I noticed this gigantic hole next to a drain cover. It would have had me off straight over the handlebars I'd imagine.

Tons of them around here, they form right next to a drain which sinks/gets repaired and then the 'filler' comes loose and vanishes.

Had an appointment last night so left work early and hammered it home. Felt good to stretch legs after sundays ride and quite impressed with my speeds on those segments as there was a headwind for much of it and I had my commuting bag on.

Cheers. Unfortunately the only day I've got to dedicate fully to cycling is tomorrow and I'm (moves from slapping distance) spending it on the MTB at Thetford Forest.
