Nice weather out there this morning. Hoped on the aeroad after taking the ultimate out a few days this week. Christ it's a total beast. They both are in completely different ways, but legs were tired this morning after squats and DLs last night yet I smashed in the ride.

Click hunting - argh! It sounds like it's from the BB (don't they all) and generally only under load. I recently changed my cleats and chain but have retightened cleats, checked chain path / re-indexed and tightened chainring bolts. Will try more obscure stuff like seat post today

Also, argh for a cold 4 days before Everesting :( I'm probably 6-7/10 and am stuffing sudafed in but doesn't help me calmly prepare!

Also try redoing the rear QR

A bit of advice please, my 100 mile sportive is next Sunday (5th June) and my last decent ride in preparation was back in April @73 miles. Would Monday be too late to do another 70 mile ride or am I best off just keeping to shorter distances within the last week?

Bah. Pretty sure I almost got a KOM today but the guy in 1st place appears to have been in a vehicle for this part of his 'ride'. I flagged the ride but I guess he unflagged it. 0 cadence for 8 miles or so, and 34.5mph avg in the segment yet a 13mph overall ride avg and 79 hours elapsed time with a solid 138bpm heart rate throughout.

Talking about dodgy segments, there is a climb near me which is reasonably steep (https://www.strava.com/segments/11975997 it's 9% for 0.2km) and the KOM on it was doing 103.1 km/h. Other's are doing 60 km/h on it...even those seem a bit fishy. I think they took a downhill ride on it, and reversed it. Or drove up it at 62 mph. Which is still dodgy because it's a steep road with a blind corner (you've descended it Lethal).

Strava can often misread - my "longest climb" is a downhill segment. Vastly annoying. I'm not going to continue my premium membership - so many times when I sync from Garmin Connect I get two rides which start at the same time, from the same place, go through exactly the same segments and end at the same time and place. You rode with one other, which links to my other ride!! Why can't it pick that up?!!!

and checking the replacable dropout....
Also try redoing the rear QR

Cheers both

I wouldn't be doing a 73 miler that close to the day. Do a 50 this weekend, if you can, and then just short rides in the run up.

Got a link to the ride?

I think you could get away with 70 on the Monday (though don't make it a super hilly one) but as Von says, it's a bit close to your ride. It's doable though and as long as you eat/drink/sleep properly you'll be recovered in time for Sunday.

In other news, the weather looks about as rubbish as expected. I guess I'll dust off the turbo later. At least this way I'll have used Trainer Road once in the last six months that I've been paying for it... :o

So I discovered something pretty cool the other day:

Most "standard" chainrings are 130 BCD. However, Rotor make chainrings up to 53 tooth outer, and 39 tooth inner that have 110 BCD. Which means, I can have the luxury of being able to fit a compact, semi-compact and standard chainrings to my power meter (when I buy it) or current cranks. Everyone else's standard chainrings are 130 BCD.

Aha. Can't imagine driving up that at 62mph in most cars!

Looks like it might suffer from bad GPS often on that climb... even HR Owen Maserati team member apparently hit 48.5mph ascending it: https://www.strava.com/activities/389440513#13662273687

Got a link to the ride?

https://www.strava.com/activities/587313948/segments/14294258995 My ride with segment linked.

Perhaps he really was riding his bike but it seems quite unlikely he magically appeared in the circuit car park for the start of the ride, did some laps, a lap of the circuit car park, likely leaving his car, cadence sensor failed and gets a KOM on the way home.

Looks like I'll be joint KOM if his is erroneous data anyway :p

I did my first 100 miles having only done a longest ride of 46 miles the week before (and I'm not naturally fit). It all depends on the course profile, your fitness etc. but I wouldn't overthink it at this stage. Some shorter rides to keep the legs moving and rest up / eat properly in the last week would be my advice

gahhhhhh - why am I right between sizes in Castelli bib shorts!!!

Bought a pair of XL bibs the other day. I own a pair of XXL's but since buying them I've dropped about 1/2 a stone. I'm unlikely to get any lower weight wise that I am now (6ft3 and just over 13st)

The XXL's are about 2 years old but still good nick, slightly baggy around the crotch/waist but good for my height, so thought I would go with XL this time, but they feel tight on the shoulders. Think I'm going to order the XXL's and see what they both feel like at the same time.

Damn annoying as the rest of the fit legs/chest etc are great in XL but they are just a bit tight on the shoulders.

Would someone care to explain bottom brackets to me. When I buy my new cranks, I want to pick up a new bottom bracket. My bike uses Specialized's OSBB, so it's basically BB30 (as far as I'm aware). I need to look at my bottom bracket properly, but I think it's a Praxis Works, and it seems to have cups that come out the side of the bracket.

It's the top BB in this image: https://www.praxiscycles.com/wp-content/uploads/M30_BB30_with_without_sleeve.jpg

However, looking at BB30 from other companies, they don't appear to have the threaded bits on the outside. Which is confusing me.

What is this unflaging thing? You can simply unflag a flagged ride if you're the owner?

My understanding was that if someone flags your ride you get a notification asking you to sort it out, and then you can unflag it when you have. I may be wrong but I imagine it's as simple as basically saying "It's fine".

I had to deal with support to remove segments from my ride when I had a GPS error on a climb that made me KOM before so probably a lot of people can't be bothered to try and fix it.

GCN did a video on BBs the other day... maybe it'll help.

Thats because technically BB30 is just bearings that are pressed in or held in place with circlips and not a sleeved BB with cups
