"Best cadence wins" - durianrider

Wash your mouth out :p

How do they count the cyclists? I avoid central London as much as I can on a bike but when I was walking I did notice the CSH alongside Embankment seems to have comical huge speed bumps!

I've no idea to be honest. Given the location, something to do with the amount of discarded jellied eels I guess?

Pretty impressive.

That said, the whole thing about drivers complaining about cyclists using the road and then the response of "most cyclists are complying" is rather annoying.

they completely screwed over the road for that whole stretch, it used to be wide enough for bikes and 2 cars say going East. Now the cycle bit is miles wide and fairly empty and the road bit is so narrow motorbikes can't even filter past small cars. I think all the traffic has just been forced to use other roads now as it's complete gridlock.

So, I'm looking to get a new bike soon(tm), and had a few questions, mostly based on the Planet X 'pay day frame sale' I got an email through for today :p

So, the budget is around £1500 at the high end, ideally less really. Bike wise I'm looking at a general purpose kinda bike, most of my riding is road so I mostly use my road bike (BeOne Storm from ~2008), however there are some tow paths etc so I'm looking at the Cyclocross/Gravel/Commuter style bikes generally.

I'd like 105-ish or equivalent groupset (I believe SRAM Rival is roughly 105-level?), ideally hydraulic discs, also ideally mudguard and luggage mounts but not overly fussed on those. My current bike is old Tiagra/Sora level so anything should be an upgrade at least :p

So, The bikes that are currently on my short list are:
Pinnacle Arkose 3 (from Evans Cycles where apparently I could get £100 off for my old bike traded in)
On-One Bish Bash Bosh
Planet-X London Road
One-One Pickenflick (bit over budget but Ti goodness?)

So the cheapest is London Road (£799) but that 'only' has BB7 mechanical disc brakes, then Arkose (at £1000 before trade-in), Bish Bash Bosh (£1499) and Pickenflick (£1599). I guess really it's the 'cheap' £800-1000 vs 'shiny' £1500-1600 :)

Any thoughts on these bikes and/or any other options that seem to fit?

Back onto the email from them today, so PX have got a 'sale' (another one) on the frames, London Road for £139.99 and Bish Bash Bosh for £539.99, is it worth building a bike up rather than buying pre-built?

Not sure on costs really, so frame obviously, then groupset which I saw the 105 disc setup for ~£450, wheelsets start around £150 ish?, then how much for all the other little bits and pieces roughly?

Thinking it might not be worth it for the Bish Bash Bosh, but the London Road being cheaper and being able to spec hydraulic disks seems like a possible option?

Planet X pay a lot less for the parts than you do....

And yet another Garmin Mis-recording tonight. Don't know what it is doing, but says lost satellites and then the time is completely screwed up. Bloody thing, been pretty good up until now. Need to backup and restore it properly.

Good old Garmin software...

My Garmin Connect didn't sync to Strava for some reason tonight... manually uploaded the FIT to Strava in the end. Doesn't look like there's an outage!

41kmh avg at our chainy session last night :D
No problems with my Garmin or uploading to anything yesterday evening guys. But you've reminded me I need to do a clear out on the thing sooner rather than later.

Had the day off work yesterday, was heavily overcast to begin with so I was a bit 'meh' about riding when it was so grey out. Had planned 55m/3,000ft but with just 4 major 4-600ft climbs with some fairly nasty gradients.

When I got going I just didn't feel strong or good enough to climb well, the 'meh' wasn't just weather related it seemed. Ended up 37m/1,250ft. Most of my recent rides have been pretty hard going though so some recovery was overdue.

Perfectly fine and capable on the flat though. It was pretty evident on what would have been the second climb (but was actually the first as the first climb had a road closure) as my HR shot right up and I had no rhythm, energy, power was down, was just grim. Finished the climb and descended the other side and then headed home. Ended up being a fairly fast & flat recovery ride.

1s off KOM on a very early segment too so if Sundays weather is fair I'll claim it then as I had more beans in the tank and thought that effort was enough to nab it :D

Pretty nasty section of 0.4m at average 11%.

Definitely caught some sun on my arms & legs, creamed my face, ears, neck but didn't expect the sun to come out so chanced it on the limbs. Sods law 30 mins in to the ride and clear blue skies at 20 degrees  Cyclists tan game getting stronger :D

Money grabbing mod abusing tart of a man

I just donated £10 of my hard earned cash to your 300 mile jolly.
I hope you feel lucky, punk!

Thanks xdcx. I'll be sure to be shaved appropriately for the ride ;)

If you post a picture of your shaved pins complete with a written note saying "A tarts shaven legs to show my <3 for xdcx" I will donate you another tenner.

I'll actually take you up on that offer - will have to wait until next week though :p

Since everyone is feeling generous and it's pay day soon. :)

Ironman is harder than a 300mi ride?:p

I'll donate next week (payday Monday)..and also track down that other donation link and throw some money their way.

You show me yours and I'll show you mine? ;)

edit: Pah @ Ironman being harder :p To be honest I'm sure it is. The fact I'm terrible and swimming and running would make it nearly impossible for me.
