1,000 miles sounds about right for SPD-SLs, I've changed mine 4 times in 5k miles. I do a fair amount of walking in mine though.

Is anyone out there thinking of trying a new saddle? The one that came with my new bike isn't wide enough for my huge bum. Figured, I'd offer it to you guys. Don't want anything for it, as it's no use to me.

It's a white Fabric Spoon Shallow, Ti Rail. (I think it's the same as the Charge Spoon, but not 100% sure).

Still on my first set of SPD cleats from 3 years ago, and I don't doubt they'll do triple the same amount of miles more before I even need to think about replacing them.

Saying that SPDs are not much better (in terms of wearing, cost, or vfm) is just nonsense.

And for info, you can get a full bag of cleat bolts for a pound on ebay!

yeah same here, my shoes went poof after 18ish months and the cleats are still going! must be 10k+ miles on them and that is commuting in london so lots of clipouts/ins :o

True - real pros are 21 seconds ahead :p ...despite having to stop at a roundabout...

I'm sure you'll take them both back soon enough. I just thought it'd be amusing to take it from OMS before you take it back :p

Well I got stuck at the roundabout and the Cheadle traffic so nerrrr. Gonna wait for a heavy southerly wind and put that thing more out of reach than Wiggo's hour record. ;)

When I did the FedSimms Lightless TT segment there were road works right at the very end (literally in the last 0.1 miles). I just managed to get through them before they changed to red but I'd have been so incredibly annoyed if I'd been caught at that point :(

First world Strava problems. :( Quite like the longer segments but it is a bit of a lottery when there's junctions etc involved. They're better than the short ones that people with dodgy iPhone GPS seem to love.

Definitely large amounts of luck involved, yeah. I prefer commuting segments in some ways - loads of luck involved but the people on the score boards have probably ridden that segment so many times that all their best times are in almost perfect conditions.

Cancelled a £320 Wiggle order after being fudged around by their complete lack of customer service for 4 days before finally being told my order wouldn't be despatched until next week at a minimum.

Not sure I'll shop there again for bigger orders tbh, I'd rather pay a few quid more for decent (or just existent) customer service when it's required!

Why would you pay £12 for a pair of cleats if you only needed the bolts?

Because the LBS didn't sell just the bolts...? :p

I meant the cost of a set of cleats, not the overall cost difference of using SPD's compared to SPD-SL for many seasons/years :p

I was stuck without a bolt, I lost one on a group ride on a saturday morning without a spare set of cleats/bolts and needed them for commuting on the monday. Needless to say I've got spares now (at home and I carry some with me)!

I've got a Black charge spoon on my Giant (& rate it!) but considering changing the cheapy white one on my old Carrera as it's quite worn and I want to flog the bike in the spring (it's sat unused for nearly a year).

If nobody else wants/needs it I'll take it off your hands mate, more than happy to cover the cost of postage and the price of a beer for you! (if Jono doesn't want) :)

Totally unrelated note... I noticed several new items on wiggle so had a look through a few pages and came across these:

Oakley Radar 1.6 Replacement Frame £65

I picked up a chinese pair of oakleys back in the spring (from aliexpress) when someone linked from here. They're fantastic but my frame is getting worse with several parts of it seperating - I had a lens 'pop' out of the nose bridge when going over some rough ground which hasn't helped. I had considered supergluing them as a bodge but not convinced on my gluing skills! I'd looked around before for cheaper oakleys (some Path here for £90 is a great buy) to replace the frame with but had hit a bit of confusion over which lenses fit which frames... There's Radar Path, Radar EV Path, Radar Edge, Radarlock Prizm and many others. I've obviously got a selection of lenses with mine from china but have no idea if the lense fitting is universal?!

I'm probably going to grab a pair for £65 as for me with my (~£25) lenses that'll give me some £100+ Oakleys even if i ruin/break the knockoff frame. In future I may need perscription lenses made (if I don't get my eyes lasered again) so I'm ideally after a 'universal' series of lenses and frames to use for everything - commuting, 'posh' riding and general sat by the pool sunglasses usage.

Spotted a few other new things on Wiggle too:

Whoever was after something to cover their saddle with while storing bikes outside at home, he's a full cover that looks good quality: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/bikeparka-the-urban-bike-cover/

New range of DHB Aeron Roubaix (seem to replace Vaeon Roubaix): Jersey, tights, socks, windslam gilet & oversocks. I might pick up a matching set in the peachy colour if I'm feeling flush around Christmas time. Although the plain black oversocks may make an appearance before then (replacement for my overshoes in the milder weather).

And typically as I've recently bought mudguards (Giant's I'm not happy with) I then spot a new version of the SKS Raceblade Longs (2). Fitting looks the same as my 1's but with a redesigned bridge clip (moves it away from the tyre so it won't 'rub away' as mine have) and a redesigned end flap (integrates into guard rather then fitting over the ends causing rubbing). They're out of stock on Wiggle but I'm guessing they're just not released yet.

Long spammy post as I've been waiting at work for a callback which is taking hours! :(

Edit: Another one... Any of you larger guys (XL & XXL) after some sub £50 shorts these would be some fantastic quality: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-goldline-bib-short/

Edit2: Lifeline tool storage bottle

I've had a weird problem with my freehub not engaging properly for months now but never bothered to look at it, think it may be properly broken now though...

Healthy noise :D

that is well and truly gone! :o on a different note, my brother stuffed his foot in his front wheel yesterday(don't ask me how) but his spokes are gone, shoe is a mess etc

How about his foot?

Please think before replying next time mate, remember this is grudas^bro!;)

One thing I'm still failing to understand... If my BB is a BB86 on my Giant Defy, is that just the pressfit size and any replacement crankset will fit it? Hollowtech II being all compatible?

Spotted several of these 6800 cranksets floating around S/H barely used, mine is 5800 but the FSA Gossamer Pro rather than the Shimano equivalent.

I've replaced other non Shimano parts when I had problems (Tektro brake calipers) before and as my 50 is showing some worn teeth I just wonder if keeping an eye out for a 6800 34/50 (most are 36/54) is the best option? I have noticed some flex in my FSA when putting power down and I'm not convinced some of my noises are not related to it...

As it's FSA are you sure that the bottom bracket isn't some kind of weird FSA-specific one that converts from BB86 to an FSA "tough as cheese" standard? If so, you'll need to replace your BB along with your crankset (which given the cheapness of BBs normally is probably worth doing anyhow tbh).

If your bb is pressfit destroy the frame and buy one with a real standard. BSA 4lyfe.

If, however, you aren't prepared to sacrifice your frame, you can get adapters between every bb type, pretty much, but the costs may get a bit silly for some combinations, and obviously it's just another interface in an already potentially mushy series of interfaces.
