So I had a grand plan to cycle this route today: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12754743?privacy_code=3LvJ5qsucx36hRqr

Lovely weather here, so I thought no problem. That turned out to be quite ambitious...

I suffered two rear punctures, about 20 mins apart. After the first one, I felt totally out of energy. Struggled on walking, and munched on a bar. Felt a little bit better. I decided to cut out at Henley, as I could get the train back to Maidenhead from there.

Got to the train station: Next train not for 40 mins. I decided to cycle home. I totally misjudged how low on energy I was, and how far the quiet route back to Maidenhead is. Totally bonked, had to eat two Cadbury's bars and drink some Lucozade at a garage. That was enough to get me home in one piece.

I felt really awful at times, just in survival mode to get home. Probably my own fault for not eating a good enough dinner last night. Total muppet.

This is what I ended up doing today (multiple splits where I thought I could stop):

https://www.strava.com/activities/526403705 (Leaving Henley and getting to the garage)

I need some real food now.

I've done 471 miles this March, which is more than any month since I started cycling. I'm on course for about 550, I think. That's commuting for you, I guess.

Saw what I thought was a Sky FKW descending the Cat and Fiddle today, got a bit closer and realised they had gone all the way with a matching Pinarello. Got closer still and fairly sure it was Geraint Thomas (or one of the Sky guys at least) on an easy ride after he withdrew from the Volta. :p

120km today with 2300m of climbing in Wales. Tough day in the saddle that. Got beaten on the final climb, it was stupid steep and given my fatigue i'd had it and had to get off and push the last bit, shame. I was absolutely knackered by then though. Chuffin great ride though.

Started in Corwen, went over to Bala then near Portmaddog and Trawsfynnydd then back over more lumps to Bala and Corwen. Last 20 km were hard rolling hills and the last took me down.

Proper slog of a ride. Both of us had drunk 1.5l water 15 miles in, putting it away for some reason, I'd was warm enough for the gloves and leg warmers to come off but still on the crisp/chilly side.

Totally dehydrated by the time I got in, usually do that route with a dribble of 2l left but topped up 500ml 8 miles from the end.

Actually had a bit of a deli belly (x 3 if you must know) before setting off and with a fairly leisurely approach at the start of the climbs still managed to 2nd best PB most of them.

Had an message pop up mid ride, something about 100% and 'save' but it was gone before I could fully read it. Recorded my ride above okay and I've since deleted all of 2015's rides.

Nope, no sd slot on the 500. I had to format mine earlier this year as something went wonky and it used to take hours to sync. I need to fiddle with it now as it's pretty much back at factory settings so does things like beep every 5 miles and tell me how long it took me.

Went out again this evening. Had chilled off quite a bit but was fine in shorts ls Baselayer, ss jersey on top. Gonna get out tomorrow before the rain hits. Try to smash out another 60mi I reckon. (if I cba after 77 today)

You can set the distance on the 'Lap Timer' to whatever you like. Took me a while to figure out why it would just randomly 'Lap'.

So, after my two rear punctures today I'm seriously considering tubeless tyres. Anyone run with them?

Are you getting pinch punctures or something breaking through the tube?
2 punctures in quick succession is usually because it wasnt fixed properly the first time. Either whatever punctured it is still lodged in the tyre and wasnt fully removed or it wasnt pumped up to the right pressure again and pinched.

I run some tubeless tyres on my MTB it's not as popular on road bikes though. You need* compatible rims which may be hard to find. People keep saying that it's about to take off and become huge in road biking but that doesnt seem to be happening - or maybe i'm just out of touch :p

*you can bodge it together on some rims

To be fair, the 2nd puncture probably was my fault. I think I might have caught the tube when replacing it, and then I went over a stone, and it went again.

The Continental Four season tyres seem popular here. Might buy those.

If you have tubeless compatible rims, it might be worth a try.
Tubeless rims + tyres will work fine with inner tubes if you want to go back.
