Road Cycling

'Bike Club' last night with my 2 mates, big effort ride as they were fresher than me! Did the 3rd stint on the way out (3 mile swaps into the headwind) which just so happened was into the climbs. Once over Tin Hill Richie shouted "show Pocko Bredwardine!" so we took a minor detour to each have an attempt.
Mine was ok, hit threshold quite quickly but had tired legs as it was soon after previous climb. I cracked @188bpm, 50rpm & 4.5mph, but feel I could maintain this effort another day to get over the steep part and ride the rest. Determined to get this completed before the autumn sets in!
I had to push hard to reel in Pocko and do my next stint on the front, utterly emptying my legs! The couple of hills back towards town were an utter slog, cramp was creeping up on me but thankfully after I'd stopped to text the other half it had cleared. Ride back through town was smooth and quick (flowing traffic, wow!) and back into the headwind towards home wasn't that bad, obviously riding a bit slower than earlier! ;)
The FSA evo BB didn't last very long on my bike from new and when I went to replace it I found there were cracks in the shaft of the Gossamer crank too  Bike was just over 12 months old so no warranty replacement either.
Good point, the BB on my Defy didn't last that long, my comment about 8000 miles was mostly directed to the chainrings! The FSA BB mine came with was replaced at 3000 miles when the bearings needed changing, I requested the LBS to change the BB too!

May have my 810 up for sale soon...
However FSA do make some great products, but generally not the ones made from metal.
They make toes?! :D :p
One thing about Gatorskins that you lot never seem to mention is how bad they are in the dry let alone the wet - I have never had a tyre give me less confidence than I currently do with these :o
Scary they're that bad! FT I think if one of the only ones of us with experience of them, I've never tried them and never will!

You'll love the 4Seasons - first couple of times I rode on them I kept catching hedgerows on the apex of corners - as the grip was that good! Although I found they cut up quite a bit and my rear didn't last 2600 miles but the tyre did crack lots, the front didn't and has tons of wear left. I had a few punctures but all were debris/pothole related (except 1 slow one I was never able to trace - probably dodgy valve). I've found the GP4000sii's have just as much grip and seem to be wearing better, they feel 'faster' too.
No worries & good work on your climbing, that first part (Upton hill) looks quite brutal (anything much over 15% is!). I had another crack at the steepest road I know of in Herefordshire last night, cracked on the 30% but think I can do it with fresher legs.

The lifeline ones seem pretty cheap to me...and I think I like Shamrock's sums :p

I'm a bit low on tubes myself. I might place an order. Previous experiences with Lifeline stuff have been good.

What size tubes do i want for a 700x28 tyre? I got, via a friend, some 700x20-25 Race 28 tubes when I hired a bike with those tyres on, and they seemed to fit (got me home after I got a puncture in one that came on the bike)... but I am confused. They looked tiny thin with a bit of air in, like 11mm copper pipe sort of diameter. Blew up fine with more air, though.

You'll want a 700x25-32 probably.

Bit expensive & I've had Lifelines arrive split/cracked before (Wiggle sent replacements).

I use Innertubeshop although their prices are now loads higher (£1.90) than last time I ordered (£1.19 when ordering 10!). I've only had 1 duff valve in around 30 tubes.

That's the one! Thanks.

So which to go for. The cheaper Lifeline ones? I've had no problem with lifeline products in the past, or the slightly more expensive InnerTube Shop offering..?

Tempted by Lifeline, need £20 for free delivery though.

there's a bit of wiggle room on tube sizes. I have a 28 tyre with a 25 tube in it at the mo, and was running a 23 with a 25 tube until i swapped over to latex

The lifeline ones are cheap but I've had a few that were no good, from being poorly manufactured so the tube isn't even along its diameter so causes local tyre bulges, to leaks around the valve area where they didn't weld the area properly. Still at the price they are still cheap, I just binned them instead of going through the hassle of chasing Wiggle up.
