Road Cycling

Garage getting there slowly.

***picture of Roady's saddle bag snipped***

Did some work on the TT bike tonight and so much easier, but do need some more space for worktop stuff. Want to grab a set of good workshop allen keys, guessing the parkline ones would be highly rated?

Looks good yo.

When I did the triple ventoux challenge last month i met a guy after my third summit who had just done his second. He had started at 4am - 4hrs before me, but he said he was going to do it, so did. There were plenty of families riding up to do an ascent, plus one bloke who must have been at least 120kg on a knackered hybrid.

But yeah, excuses...

I've thought about other things but I now think this has to be my next challenge.

I'm going to give cycling to work a go here and there, soon, maybe just start with the odd Friday. Thing is I work in Edgbaston so it's probably going to be a bit hairy scary, will have to learn fast that's for sure.

Edgbaston isn't too bad, pershore road > Bristol road is my preference!

How'd you rate that tool chest? Was looking for something a few months back and came across them but never took the plunge.

Only got it the other day good so far. Altho I'm going to get another Halfords one which are half price atm to fit my socket sets in as this one isn't wide enough.

Quite a fast ride in this morning. There's a guy I sometimes see en route, usually when he's jumping the lights where I cross the A580. He goes across the pelican crossings and sneaks past that way. This morning I was waiting at the lights and he did his usual thing and went across. I caught up with him a few hundred metres later and then overtook him, and he then sat on my wheel for about 5 miles while I battered it trying to hold 20+mph on my single speed. I never quite opened up a gap until the climb over a motorway bridge, but he overtook me moments later in a queue at a junction. I got a few PRs for my trouble, so that was fun!

Cool, thanks. I've endless boxes which is a bit of a ballache and need to get organised.

Now that is a man chest. I approve!

All of my tools are shoved into a small plastic clip lock tub. The ones which don't fit are in a cupboard :(

And now I'm collecting a chest & cabinet on Monday :o:p Pretty certain the cabinet won't fit through the boot mouth though so I'll have to get creative for the 1 mile drive home... or strap it to my back and cycle home  (not srs)

Right, we've got a whole load of traffic lights round here that don't change unless a car approaches. The sensors don't see me when I'm on my bike and it'll just sit there on a red light unless a car rolls up behind. I've been a pretty militant follower of road rules, but now I've had to take to RLJing just to ****ing we'll make it home from the station at night. What a stupid system. /rant.

IT'S DONE.

Went out last night and beasted myself up Bredwardine hill for the second time this week. No stops climbing (brief one at the bottom to doff arm warmers) this time as solo no waiting for my mate. Things were so humid I utterly melted, steep part (that'd beaten me before) I coped with fine but the continuing gradient after that really felt relentless. I'm a minute down on a goal I set myself on the overall segment (which I don't see me beating this year), but overall very happy with the result.

@vonhelmet....did you enter the d-lock competition at the centre today?

I won!
Congrats!

OK I get it... it is my aim tbh, which is why I'm trying! I just want to make it up without 9000 stops haha I will do some nice alpine rides though, I promise. No excuses.
Just think of all the cake you can eat when you're climbing alpine passes every week! :D

Should have a forum holiday over there to drag you up some! I'd be up for that! (Doubt my other half would, our holiday allowances are usually spent on time away together!)
I had a look and wiggle have some lifeline ones for £18 that look quite good.

Lifeline are very good for the money in my experience, I've got the cheaper ones and they're great quality. Man cave envy! Tool chest is a great idea... But I think I'm going the workbench & wall mounted tool racks route.

Also, while I'm here moaning - any recommendations for a chain tool? My old Cyclo type one has given up the ghost. Needs to be able to put the chain back together as well as break it. I noticed some of them only break the chain.

Which one? This sgs engineering one was noticeably cheaper than the Halfords equivalent and comes highly recommended. 90 quid delivered.

I went for a move able chest for the fact I can out all my car stuff in and wheel it onto the drive when required.

I have this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/park-tool-5-to-11-spd-and-singlespeed-chain-tool/

Quality bit of kit.

I've had cheaper ones in the past and they have either broken, bent or failed at inserting joining pins into new chains. This one has been flawless.

I've got the cheaper version and carry it with me in my larger saddlebag - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/park-tool-chain-brute-chain-tool/

Have only used it a handful of times and worked perfectly. My cheapy PX one (came as part of a kit) was more trouble than it was worth, just not strong enough so flexed loads and the pin got bent.

I have the 'portable' one with a peening anvil I picked up for a fiver when the NFTO shop closed. Not used it yet, it folds down nicely but is probably twice the weight of the other!
