Road Cycling

You new guys 'not proper cycling' are showing some of us up! :o

Good riding guys!
Oi, I'm considering my ride as proper cycling. :p. Feeling a little exhausted today but nothng coffee and plenty of food won't sort out.

Edit:

On the note of proper cycling congrats on managing to smash that climb last week. :)

Hahaha, was moreover commenting on the distances/climbing from both of you - as I wouldn't have tackled anything like that in my first 18 months. Even now it'd hurt! :D

And climb was monday, doesn't count as it's technically not on Strava. Rectified later/on the weekend!
Off the bike for a couple of months. Gutted.
Broken the tip of my Fibula in a football match!
Gutted! Rest up. Hope you learnt your lesson about other sports.:p
Natch. I'll have to look in
Linky for you. Even posted in it! I generally steer away from GD, but that thread has so far avoided a huge amount of cyclist-bashing. Pleasantly surprised!

Any reason why my Garmin Bike Speed and Cadence Sensor isnt being detected by my Garmin 800? New batteries have been installed. Purchased from new.

it's the newer type.

The newer type are separate sensors, think they work independently of each other (I only say this because I'm using the cadence sensor and not the speed atm!) which possibly suggests that your head unit is the problem.

I've never had to fiddle with my 810, but see if theres an option to 'forget' a sensor so you can attempt to then re-pair.

You need to select 'Speed and Cadence' rather than 'Speed/Cadence' from the menu to pair.

One is the combined, the other the newer style independent units.

Classic, road safety thread in GD descends into cyclist-bashing.

Just had a look. I love the idea of cyclists going "too fast". If I'm pushing myself then I might cruise in the low 20s on the flat. That is not "too fast" unless I can't stop when I need to. If you feel you have to overtake me and in doing so you break the speed limit then it is not me going too fast. I routinely get overtaken on my ride into work by people doing high 30s past a speed readout thingy. Who's going too fast, huh?

Also the hilarious idea of big groups of cyclists doing 30+ through villages. Pull the other one. How often does that happen?

I also think people have a totally warped perspective of how long cyclists are actually holding them up. I bet it would be really interesting to compare how long people think they've been "delayed" compared to how long it really was. Like if you end up "stuck" doing 15mph behind a cyclist for, say, a minute, which itself is fairly improbable, when you'd rather be doing 30mph, then you only really lose 30s, but I bet people perceive as being a far greater length of time and rage accordingly.

Yeah, if I'm travelling at 20mph and I hit an oblivious ped it's my fault as I wasn't being considerate. But if the ped gets hit by a car travelling 20mph, well it's totally different then!

Tour of Britain. How inconsiderate! They should have insurance for the damage they cause! :D:rolleyes:

Think it started being aimed at cyclists riding on pavements and through pedestrianised areas (city centres) too fast.

Our cycling club (along with a load of others in the region) recently got an email from Great Budworth Parish council, complaining about cyclists going through the village too fast, shouting and urinating! You may remember the story, it made national press recently. Our club was mentioned in the article. However, the parish council had no idea whom they were angry at, they hadn't officially spotted NCC as the guilty party, nor any other club for that matter, they just wanted somebody to direct their anger too. Our club runs don't even go through Great Budworth!

It could have been anybody but instead they smeared a whole load of innocent parties to get a headline.

Maybe if more people got off their fat lazy arses and didn't drive the 3 miles to work we'd have not only less issues with obesity in this country but less moronic drivers on the roads.

The thing is, it could have been absolutely anybody, but no, they direct their anger to an organisation whom they can find an email address. A club committee member spoke to a member of their council on the phone in which they admitted their accusations against us were false. It was utterly crazy.

Meanwhile the Daily Wail prints it on their oversized elaborately decorated bog roll and the two minutes hate gets turned on cyclists.

Cheers both. Got it sorted.

Only taken me 4 months.

Most drivers who haven't cycled are asshats. Yet, so many cyclists don't do the rest of us a favour at times, too. Morons are everywhere, so can't simply point at one and cast a wide net of blame.

And as for proper cycling, that's me buggered. haha I can just about climb into bed. 4000ft would probably kill me. One day...

Bah, potential for rain tomorrow afternoon. Been meaning to actually get a ride in on the Propel now the TT conversion has been complete for a month :o

All set except for the 40% chance of rain tomorrow afternoon :( Was going to do the club TT circuit again as the event is next Saturday but looks like I might be banished to the turbo instead and just get a similar length & power effort in.

Even cancelled my check-up at the dentist (which took me 8 weeks to book :p ) so I could squeeze the ride in before the light goes. Sods law the day I've moved it to will be the only sunny one that week #cyclistproblems.
