Road Cycling

I have tubeless tires on my road bike, it has started to loose pressure on the tires. I have never had tubeless tires before so when i rang the shop they said it might be the sealant as its coming up to a year old.
I looked online and it looks like you can put some in via the valve which looks ok as getting the tires of are a pain. Is there any sealant that is better than others? Do i need to do something with whatever sealant maybe in there?
Lastly is it something that is easy as it looks or worth paying the shop to sort it?
For now i've just been putting air in before i go out.

I'd be tempted to start from fresh and give the tyres and rims a good cleanup.

If you do just top up then get some Stans sealing in a 2oz bottle. The end of the bottle can go into the valve core hole without you needing a syringe. You will also need a valve core remover too ofc.

Thanks, i got a removal tool and popped some more in it. I'll do it properly with cleaning it up next time.

I got my bike through cycle to work last year its this : https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/contend-ar-1-2021
I know my local shop will let us use vouchers for upgrades or other 'stuff' they sell if we want to
Is there anything on the bike linked that is kinda sub standard?

I'm mostly an aspiring runner so don't use it to much but for weeks like this one where i've got some ankle pain cycling is a good relief. Should really use it more than once a week to give my legs a rest.
i don't use road pedals so use some crankbrother stamp pedals and five 10s so could get some lighter flats and maybe a garmin gps for directions

Component wise it seems fine unless you want to spend money for marginal differences.

I'd consider pedals / shoes and a computer.

You can get SPD pedals and shoes for added flexibility.
Cycle to work won't cover a computer.

Is it safe to assume all the cheap Shimano HG701 chains on ebay are fake?

Probably. I wouldn't risk it personally. A snapped chain could result in a nasty crash. I don't know if they would negatively effect the lifetime of the rest of your groupset as well if they are poor quality.

Just spend the £20 for a guaranteed real one you cheapskate :p

Haha given Merlin is a 10 minute drive then it probably makes sense :p I swear they were £30 when i looked!

Well i bought a chain. Fitted it, patted myself on the back for changing my first chain. Then went to turn the wheels and got nothing.

Turns out i've missed some of the routing after the top cog of the rear derailleur and fed it through after a metal bar so it catches.

I have no tool to remove a quick link, and a tip i saw about using pliers on each corner was not successful. Guess i need another tool!

There are plenty of videos on YouTube for chains in general and removing a quick link without a tool. Personally I fold the chain back on itself and use my fingers, or a pair of pliers if it's particularly tight. Did you check the length of the chain before installing, this is very important as well?

You can use a shoelace or a piece of string to undo a quick link. As weta says, did you resize the chain as well?

I have routed my chain over the tab in the RD before it always runs, its just really noisy until you realise :p .

Good day chasing the Tour of Britain from Southend today. Never done so few miles in such a long time with ll the waiting around 39 miles in 5 hours but got to see them go past 4 times.

Route literally goes a mile past my house. We’re heading over to Tewkesbury to catch the start and maybe the return.

I’m hoping my KOMs along the route still stand after tomorrow!! :p

Route literally went past my front gate yesterday.. the small village is really annoyed with me because they all dressed up posh but there was me in my Lycra armed with 3 cow bells

Yeah. Sized it up against the old chain and prayed that was right.

Will look at other methods. Everything I tried failed miserably.
