Road Cycling

I wouldn't buy le col again as the stitching broke after a single ride. They were clearly rubbing on the saddle at some point which caused the damage but all my Assos bibs have tight, recessed stitching and doesn't actually have any stitching in the locations most likely to rub.

Spoke to Le Col and they basically said that its my problem and I can have a 20% discount code if I want to buy another pair.

@fez - funnily enough my Wiggins bib shorts the pad came lose at the front. Though that was after many many rides. I’ve never been in a rush to buy another pair really. I’d reach for my rapha ones before the le col ones

You’re both welcome @AndyCr15 and @Roady

We can be Assos buddies then in a few years we can be Tarmac SL10 buddies

Dude,
30-32mm knobbly is CX tyres.

Would your roadie have the clearance?

I'd get the gravel or rigid mtb out of the shed if I wasn't going to hit the tarmac. Unless I was making a statement by riding 25mm slicks on a gravel path.
I know it's stupid but it's a cheapo road bike with disc brakes and I didn't manage to get a gravel bike yet. I can also only squeeze one bike in to go up to lakes and my MTB won't fit :D

I think it's less stupid than riding a Topstone round Swinley last Sunday chasing my mates on eMTBs though :D

It has about 35mm clearance from a quick caliper check. CX tyres are fine. I just don't want to be on slick 25mms

Sup? It's been a hot minute!

I need some quick advice then I'll say hello properly soon....

I want some gravel tyres - either 30mm or 32mm ASAP to do a gravel ride on my uhh road bike on Friday. Any ideas? Ideally as knobbly as possible and available on quick delivery without being overly expensive!

As a starting option, I was going to say 30mm Schwalbe CX Pro from Halfords, but they might be out of stock.

A mate recommended Vitorria Terreno Wet (or even Dry might be fine)... just gotta find some stock or find a bike shop up there with good stock.

I think CX tyres are not the best for puncture resistance.

You need knob for wet mud, not for gravel. And gravel/cx tyres won't get you much further into the mud than slicks, imho. If it's, literally, gravel and tarmac, then perhaps 28/30/32mm spesh armadillos might be just right?

I have slick 47mm WTB horizons on my rando, and the only time I get in trouble is wet mud. My pal likes trying out different gravel tyres, and the knobbly ones only give you an extra 5mph top speed before you slide and hit the ground as if you had slicks.

Might be cheaper and more fun to buy a retro rigid 26er with decent tyres for the trip ;)
