Road Cycling

I wouldn't buy le col again as the stitching broke after a single ride. They were clearly rubbing on the saddle at some point which caused the damage but all my Assos bibs have tight, recessed stitching and doesn't actually have any stitching in the locations most likely to rub.

Spoke to Le Col and they basically said that its my problem and I can have a 20% discount code if I want to buy another pair.

@fez - funnily enough my Wiggins bib shorts the pad came lose at the front. Though that was after many many rides. I’ve never been in a rush to buy another pair really. I’d reach for my rapha ones before the le col ones

You’re both welcome @AndyCr15 and @Roady

We can be Assos buddies then in a few years we can be Tarmac SL10 buddies

Dude,
30-32mm knobbly is CX tyres.

Would your roadie have the clearance?

I'd get the gravel or rigid mtb out of the shed if I wasn't going to hit the tarmac. Unless I was making a statement by riding 25mm slicks on a gravel path.
I know it's stupid but it's a cheapo road bike with disc brakes and I didn't manage to get a gravel bike yet. I can also only squeeze one bike in to go up to lakes and my MTB won't fit :D

I think it's less stupid than riding a Topstone round Swinley last Sunday chasing my mates on eMTBs though :D

It has about 35mm clearance from a quick caliper check. CX tyres are fine. I just don't want to be on slick 25mms

Sup? It's been a hot minute!

I need some quick advice then I'll say hello properly soon....

I want some gravel tyres - either 30mm or 32mm ASAP to do a gravel ride on my uhh road bike on Friday. Any ideas? Ideally as knobbly as possible and available on quick delivery without being overly expensive!

As a starting option, I was going to say 30mm Schwalbe CX Pro from Halfords, but they might be out of stock.

I think CX tyres are not the best for puncture resistance.

You need knob for wet mud, not for gravel. And gravel/cx tyres won't get you much further into the mud than slicks, imho. If it's, literally, gravel and tarmac, then perhaps 28/30/32mm spesh armadillos might be just right?

I have slick 47mm WTB horizons on my rando, and the only time I get in trouble is wet mud. My pal likes trying out different gravel tyres, and the knobbly ones only give you an extra 5mph top speed before you slide and hit the ground as if you had slicks.

Might be cheaper and more fun to buy a retro rigid 26er with decent tyres for the trip ;)

Interesting, Strava really is doing its best to make sure my auto renewal stays off. I don’t know why they fight against their user base so much? Veloviewer, intervals.icu, riduck etc would probably be non compliant after these changes. Silly Strava.

Hmm, it certainly does make you wonder. Partly I think 'well let's wait and see how it actually effects me', but another part of me says 'don't support a company that acts in this way' but is there any real alternative at this point?

It is a bit rubbish, and from the keynote in the DCR video it sounds bizarre to do this complete switch. Maybe i'm unique but i don't really use any of those other platforms, and of the ones i might use all have an integration for Garmin/Wahoo data anyway so you'd just have to link directly.

I guess the main reason being that Strava is now adding a lot of functionality that was previously only available elsewhere, as long as they continue to expand their platform then there's no reason to look elsewhere.

They’ve got 9 pairs of the XL size left on the whoop website?

I can see if they deliver to Spain once I get to the office and if if they do could maybe order those?

In the middle a a cyber attack at work so not sure how much time I’ll get though

Also (also also?) I was watching Youtube last night and this popped up. I always thought Hank from GCN seemed quite posh but never realised this level of rich!

Cheers but i think Customs would then kick in and after paying €15 on a €40 poster from the US, i'm not sure i want to risk that level of cost. Especially annoying because it was a gig posted from a gig i went to in Barcelona who had no stock and so told me to order online!

Might try the Le Col ones and hope i have better luck than you guys :p

EDIT - Not going to try the Le Col ones, had a bit of a google and seems there's far too many people with experiences like @fez's and terrible support. Just doesn't seem worth the hassle for the risk of getting a good pair.

Yeah, after watching DC's Strava video, I watched the first couple of minutes of this -

I guess he's trying to do a Clarkson's Farm... but I lost interest about 2 mins in.

yeah knew that about him from a previous video, the actual video he made of it was hard to watch. I gave up.

big job to take on but I'm sure he'll manage.

Its a 5 minute video guys! You kids today with your tiktok attention spans!

I just cancelled my auto-renewal. They are fundamentally a company that runs completely from user data and refusing to pass that through to other third parties and giving such short notice is just a dick move. Most people only use them for tracking segments and general ride data. I don't use it for analysis other than seeing if I go any faster on segments and to follow a few mates. I could stomach the price when they weren't behaving like dicks but I think they might find themselves losing quite a few customers over this.

It does seem odd, i'd have thought a sensible approach would be to make exporting data allowed but only via Premium membership. Presumably the integrations cost money so if people just use the free accounts then i can see some annoyance.

I wonder if this is some big backlash over GDPR issues that someone has flagged and they've gone mental to compensate?
