Does Wahoo not do that? I know my Garmin has various reminders you can configure, although i think these are usually distance/time based alerts rather than anything more calculated. Although i've never investigated it much. I set an auto drink reminder once and it was just irritating

*He says as someone who never drinks enough during rides and always gets home with >50% of his liquid remaining, despite always telling myself i need to be better, especially for longer rides

Wahoo doesn't support the prompts from Eat My Ride. I think you can set up reminders to 'drink' every X minutes or something but nothing that can be imported

does anyone have a good method to get rid of some rust ?
been sick for a while and my commuter was left on the side and not cleaned after its last ride, got some rust on jockey wheels etc....chain ended up in the bin and got new cassette .. want to clean old one to keep as spare...

so need a good method...will be trying salt and lemon juice tomorrow or on the weekend...

thx

Dammit. I actually really like that!

Thats because its awesome. They seem to have come back into stock a few times but don't last long or there isn't much stock. Got 2 stock alerts before I bought it. We should all get one and have a big OcUK meetup in them.

Ah see, at first i wasn't sure if it was sarcasm and an odd thing that Paul Smith was getting involved in cycling so it felt like a guilty pleasure. Thanks for validating my opinion it is genuinely great!

Which reminds me i had actually ordered a new helmet a few weeks ago and no sign of it!

Cycling brands love a little cross promotion with fashion brands. I had been looking to get myself a well ventilated helmet for the summer and this seemed to fit the bill, came in some interesting colours and wasn't insanely expensive.

Helmet has arrived and its nice. Best part is that its only 200g. A whopping 110g lighter than my other helmet. To take 100g off the bike would cost a small fortune at this stage. Should have done this years ago :p

In the weight weenie world, 1g saving for £1 is top draw

Good point. I've ordered a Giro helmet to replace my current cheap DHB one from Wiggle which has been dropped more times than i'd care to remember. I tried a Van Rysel one on which was crazy light but wanted to avoid spending €90. This Gira one was in the sale for €50 :p

Not sure what went on during my lunch ride. Had to go back to the garage to check on the car and a short 14km ride to the garage which i did on Monday which took 35 minutes (albeit on tired legs) only took 27 minutes and averaged around 31kph which i never usually manage given a positive elevation profile!

Tailwind!

On the subject of bike fit. Does anyone have one of those cleat position board thingies?

When i had my bike fit he used one to ensure things were aligned and it seemed a handy tool. Until i went and bought new shoes and cleats.... Been considering the Ali Express version rather than anything proper.

Feels like my left one isn't quite aligned the same as my right foot, and whilst i'm not really noticing any issues, i'm also conscious that something might develop thats quick/cheap to fix.
Not tried one but have always considered getting one. But the few times I've had to measure up new shoes I seem to get it quite accurate... I hold the shoes up together, matching where the toes and ball of foot is for the cleat fore/back. Then use the rear of where my heel is for the angle. Every time I change a cleat I draw around the old one on the sole then screw the new one into the same place.

The guy for my fit did start from scratch, but also showed me. He puts tape on the innerside of the shoe. Got me to stand in them, jump up and down a few times and wiggle my feet around. Drew a mark on the tape then where the 'ball' of my foot is. Standing on the floor with feet in natural position on a line on the floor, 'draw' a line straight across the shoe to then mark the outer edge. Fit the cleat along that line (widest edge of cleat). Pedal wriggling feet, adjust angle of the cleat slightly so the fit is in the middle of the 'float' of the cleat in that natural position. Actually found I'm 'odd' but likely through riding - quite 'duck footed' when stood naturally (toes out, heels in), but put me on the bike my feet go fairly straight. Said he sees it a lot from people who've trained themselves to pedal straighter when they should have adjusted cleats more. But with no pain/injury didn't consider any need to change/correct it...

I'd say a decent bike fit is worth it, especially if you are going to invest in cycling as your hobby.
Oh definitely, but you probably don't 'need' one when starting out and if you've been fairly accurately sized by a shop to the right size frame and you're not borderline... If you pick up an injury, or just can't get something right. Or if you're towards the borders of standard sizes and stuff that's when a fit is really worth it's weight in gold (& can stop you buying the wrong frame size!)

I went to insoles quite early on from one of those shop fits. I've used the specialized 'bg blue' insole since then. Even before I became a Specialized fanboy. I tried some others and couldn't quite get as much comfort from them (but actually use them in a pair of workboots I have and my wellys). They're crazy money, but can buy them new for ~£20 if you hunt around, sometimes see them pop up for £15 on ebay.

What Lakes did you get? My fitter recommended them, or Bonts to get a wider shoe. I bought a pair of EU42 standard width Bonts (Riot) and just can't get the fit right, like the uppers are not large enough so I feel cramped in them while they're really stiff so even fastened up loose they feel tight, yet the soles are perfect. I should probably have got a wide pair... I picked up a ebay used set of Lake CX176 in EU42 Wide and the fit is kinda-ok, but maybe need the non-wide. 'Roomy' feeling makes them comfortable but that is an issue, as the uppers are the opposite to the Bonts, lots of space, lots of flexibility and have to have the boas quite tight to feel 'fitted'. Feels like I bought exactly the wrong ones - should be wide in Bont and non in Lake. I have a standard fit EU42 Sidi shoes and they're like slippers. Super comfortable and stuff. Maybe they've grown with me. My daily shoe is a Specialized BG Sport, standard fit EU42 and although cheap shoes feel as comfortable as the wide Lakes with a little more stiffness in the upper. I've also had standard fit 2x Giro (good like the Spec), standard fit Shimano (too narrow and flexy soles) & standard fit Fizik (too narrow).

I'm not searching for the perfect shoe, but it feels almost like the harder I've tried the worse I've made the fit! Probably just flog these Bonts and get more fancy Specialized Torch for summer as they are quite often in deals.

@fez I don't know if any of that helps you choose shoes if you found the Torch too narrow!

Ordered myself a jazzy new summer helmet

They look good, can't see where I saw it pop up (probably twotter) but a good price on them for a well regarded helmet. Quite hard to tell what the actual colours will look like in normal light - let us know!

Paul Smith and Rapha have done stuff together for several years already, usually a great collab for some different colours than the standard Rapha block colour/pastel ones.

The torch are super narrow to my eyes. When I compare them to the lakes its crazy.

I'll get a photo up of it next to my bike and another of the lakes vs the torches.

Lake cx238. I paid RRP for them, but as part of the deal, he gave me some 'free' Sidas custom insoles, and I had to put my foot in some fancy machine they use for ski boots to get the insole perfect. It wasn't cheap, but I had braced myself for the additional cost as it also meant we were able to complete the fit with the recommended shoe rather than having to 'make do'.

They are the non-wide-fit version, but they were wide enough to accommodate my slightly wider than average foot. The only thing I would change would be to have them in black, as the white is very white...

Previously, I've had two pairs of Shimano RC7s and one pair of Fiziks.

Looked grey and dry today.. by time I jumped in my bibs it started raining but I only noticed when I left. Wasn’t nice. Ice cold rain, roads muddy and wet etc. Ah well. Was still more interesting than zwift

Been getting really confused because i've been getting some weird readings on a few recent bike rides. For example this ride only showed 3.4km when it should have been around 20km

Around 9pm last night it clicked that i think i've ballsed up the config of the cadence/speed sensor. I had to check the battery and i remembered that reverses the sensor, so what had previously been a cadence sensor became a speed sensor. As it's mounted to my crank it seems that was then creating a speed and distance output to my Garmin. However since the crank was spinning a lot less than a wheel hub it's just ruined it!

Annoyingly Strava doesn't seem to let you edit the distance anymore.

Weird. Speed / cadance sensor should not mess with your gps data ? well not distance as that should come from the gps device aka your Garmin.

Yeah, that's what i'd assumed, but it's definitely ever since i added the speed/cadence sensor to my hardtail/gravel bike, and only happens on that bike. No issues yesterday on my road bike with the same head unit.

I really shouldn't as need to be saving for the house move but last night as I was adding webpages to that fabled 'bike folder' I was looking at the Bjorn saddle which I think just looks super cool... Turns out Ryett have made their own version of it and it's currently only £65 compared to the real deal being £350...

I shouldn't... but I may...
