Road Cycling

It's looking nice but chilly outside. I gave my chain an immersion wax yesterday so looking for a nice loud pootle along the cycle track and back.

Just changed my work hours to 0730-1530 and it feels like I've picked the best time to do it. If I can get home by 1600 I should still be able to do a nice flat 30km and make it back for the nursery run.

Simply ignoring outside factors, if/when we get a heatwave, it's far more comfortable (cooler) to head out before 0700 and be back home by ~1100 rather than head out in the evening.

Hey, at least you will be on largely pristine roads without drivers trying to kill you at every turn. I'm sure the weather will be nicer than suggested anyway!

You say that but this was the view out my window the other day :(

I do like a nice early morning ride but just cause it lets me have the day

Id take riding in a heatwave over the cold though. My body copes better overheating than it does when it’s freezing

not quite, the driving there last week was easily the worst i'd experienced, but mostly just people driving on the wrong side of the road as opposed to close passes every 5 seconds.

I've just been out for a spin at lunch.

short sleeves, bib shorts and thin gloves(didn't really need them) was lovely. Once I got going, the heat hit and I was absolutely fine. Perfect temperature for it.

I'm down in Horsham area so not up north, 14c currently. Perfect.

It's that pain in the ass time where you're dressed for winter in the morning, and summer (ish) on the way home. But can't complain as it's sunny and dry at least! First ride on the proper summer bike today too!

there's that yeah, Saturday I was way overdressed and in black, could feel the sun roasting me.

I'd consider the 296km version in 2026 if you wanted commitment!
Think your toe will have healed by then!? ;)

Seriously, get it looked at if still painful. My fractured finger really wasn't hurting after a week, but was all strapped up to support it. It ached/hurt more 4-5 weeks later when it was unwrapped and had to use it more. But was mostly just itchy as it healed when the swelling went down and then tired from being lazy for so long...

Hope the house build/excitement is still progressing... Just slower than expected but that kinda thing always is! Hope you've built some time contingencies in! Add more!

Enjoy it while it lasts! Nursery hours nearly matching work hours (9-4). We got very used to it, so then school hours being a 3.15 pickup has taken some getting used to. It feels like you don't have an afternoon!

You're in the wrong place for sympathy. I had -3 on my commute this morning so full winter kit and now just considering what to wear for the 16 degrees commute home!

Man, I forgot how good Calvin is that this stuff. Was going to link the GCN one, but the PT one has by far better diagrams/actual of it. A better learning tool!

New shimarno road shift cable set arrived. Going to try and give it ago..wish me luck .I'll probably be back here in 2 hours tearing my hair out

Just about to head out. Unusually warm for this time of year. 5:25am and 21 degrees. But of a storm coming later I’d expect given how windy it is. Could be worse :)

Giant dont make it easy to remove cable

Edit ok I think I worked it out . You need to shift it to the lowest gear to get access to the hole

You have to shift to the right gear which then leaves the barrel at the end of the cable by the access hole so it can be grabbed and pulled out.

What have you done to your poor shifter man! :p

I know :o it's a mess. I broke the clear cover off it anyway that side. Stupidity standing the bike on the ground with the bars. Ill put the screws back in . Iv got the outer cable and new inner cable routed through the shifter I think and through the main body to the rear

Ok so it's been about 2 hours. I got shifting but it's still not 100 indexed right and I don't know why

Im going to leave it tonight. I might get my mate to try and index it. The barrel adjuster and the H and L screws iv messed about with. It seems to be ring on the largest chain ring .one or two gears making a skipping noise . But if i change the the lower chain ring in the middle and then go through the back gears. My chain is rubbing against a metal guide thing

You know when you see those vids on insta and the like and they have HR and power wattage displayed on screen? What do you need for that? Presume it is reading from the bikes head unit?
