Road Cycling

Half the time they're not even straight out of the bloody retail box, let alone straight after being used and abused!

This is true, especially for cheaper rotors but it happens with the more premium ones too.

@kiteloopy - your method wasn't wrong as such but I find even with all the "foolproof" methods I often have to perform some manual adjustment to eliminate rub.

Di2 guys, any way to charge the V1 external batteries without the charging cradle?

Friend with a faulty internal battery sent away for warranty replacement, the LBS has said they can fit a temp V1 external battery for him but don't have a charger for it and the battery is low/flat...

thanks

I have a HRM, but im not using trainer road (at the moment as its a monthly cost)

used to use magnet on spoke, which have broken off
Replacement magnets are cheap!

I had great fun trying to adjust mine last week - a small nudge one way and the caliper body fouled the spokes and a small nudge in the opposite direction and it rubbed the pad once revolution which drove me absolutely crackers. In the end I had to find the bend in the disc and remove it via adjustable spanner.

Dat feeling though when I got the brake disc true - lovely jubbly. :D

Argh, that hasnt made my day at all.
I didnt notice it on my old callipers, I think there was more clearence between rotor and pad...and the fact it was factory built.

yes but cheap plastic they break easily

LANCASHIRE.
Does anyone here live there? I am going to some place called Bacup near Burnley? Also going to Lancaster.

Can I ride my bike in this area or will it result in death?

If anyone lives there can possibly organise playing on our bikes or I can follow you on Strava and pinch some routes?

Yeah I guess (I've never broken one!), the non-magnet sensors are a good option but if you're breaking sensor magnets so easily I'd be worried about breaking one of the Garmin rubber holders... Not an issue inside as you won't 'lose' it, but outside... Much more expensive to lose the sensor than just the magnet! ;)

I bought some magnets online which fit behind the pedal spindle, they're super strong (hold themselves on) and I got 5 of them for a few quid... I've not lost one yet! You could use the magnet part from the cateye one, match it to a large enough nut you could file a groove into for the spoke... Bodge (tell GCN!), but it'd be stronger than the plastic holder (but could mark your spoke)...

Cheapest option might just be to source a bundle of the cateye ones from china or something... Not a huge issue (if you paid £1 each) if you broke one every month then! :)
Anyone used Speedplays?

Knees aren't the best and reviews say good things about these,

but prefer real world opinions.
They just give you lots of float, most clipless pedal options have a high float cleat option.

Vonhelmet and PhysicHull aren't a million miles away (though not exactly next door either).

If I wasn't still recovering from my broken collarbone I'd be up for heading that way. When are you in the area?

Need a bit of advice please guys, can't decide what to do!

So I got a Stages power meter a few months ago; friend brought it from america, quite a bit cheaper than here (~£300).

Experienced drop outs on it and sent it off, I now have a brand new replacement.

Now it's winter time so I'll be mainly training indoors and riding with friends on weekends. I bought it with the primary aim of using it to influence training outdoors but I found that I rarely actually used the data. Most of my rides are with a group/friends so the power data doesn't really influence the effort their either. So I'm considering selling it, potentially making the money back I paid (if not a small profit), and using the money to either buy a second hand winter bike or a cheaper bike to use when I want to start joining some races next year.

My concern is, will I miss it if I get rid? I can use the virtual power calculations on trainer road for indoor training.

Yeah on this front I'm going to be pretty hopeless. Not been cycling round that far. I do know that the Rake is in Ramsbottom, so that's a hill well worth a try. I've never done it, doesn't look too bad though. Vonhelmet will be more your man on this particular subject.

Unfortunately yes... :D

From Lancaster, over Jubilee hill and round the Trough of Bowland would be a good ride. Approx 38miles and 3600ft

Or you could do Jubilee, Trough then Cross of Greet. 42miles and 4500ft

How far do you want as there are longer routes with more climbs?

Bacup is a good jumping off point for a lot of places. Forest of Bowland to the West, Pennines/Yorkshire to the East, Peak District to the South East, West Pennine Moors to the South. I've a bad habit of plotting loads of long rides on ridewithgps so I'll look at what I can suggest around there.

Totally possible without PWM, but equally it is only an 'estimated' figure then ;)
.

Aye hence the question, I don't recall if you get an estimated power curve from the estimated power on Strava premium or that you only get a power curve if you have a power meter.

They're £390 now on Wiggle too! (only some sizes in stock) :)

Yeah that was where I ordered my one from. Only the 56 was out of stock when I ordered which sort of did me a favour as I was torn between the 56 and 58. I'm just over 6 foot tall but don't want to make the mistake of going too big like I feel I did with my hybrid. I'm sure the 58 will be fine.

Bought a set of SKS Chromo plastics to go on it simply because they are what I know :o Was that a stupid enough move to bother sending them back unused and getting another set or are they still a good option? I nearly went for Blumels but some reviews said they weren't as durable.

Doesn't seem to on my Strava premium. It does use data from Zwift to calculate an estimated FTP but not from estimated power from rides.

Forgive me father for I have sinned. Think I may have created a new category of bikes.
