Road Cycling

Very poor by the driver, whilst I'm not pro helmet

Why would you not make you child wear one

I've cycled that road a load of times. Nearly went over the bonnet of a car at the crossroads that pulled out despite looking at me. It really wouldn't surprise me if that driver had kids in the car too. Frequency of bad drivers seemed to reduce this week... funnily enough it was also half term...!

All the helmet in the world isn't gonna protect you from a Range Rover up the arse.

No, but it would if car passing ridiculously close to child makes child wobble and fall, hitting her head on road or kerb. My daughter has come off her bike on the road (ironically by trying a hand signal) helmet saved her half a dozen stitches.

All,

I'm having trouble replacing a rear tyre on my bike, for some reason I can't get it on perfectly and it's driving me mad. I took the back tyre off and put a turbo tyre on for some indoor training. Now I have changed back to my road tyre I can't get it perfectly round! There aren't any kinks in the inner tube so I'm not sure if the tyre is seated properly. I have taken it off 3 times and put it back on and I still can't get it perfect. Is there a trick to this? I feel that maybe the beading isn't sat correctly. I want to go for a ride first thing in the morning and am thinking that maybe getting out on the road will sort it out but not sure?

Any advice?

Sounds like you haven't got enough pressure to force it to seat properly.

Are you using a hand pump?

I had similar problem after my first puncture, couldn't get it to seat properly with a hand pump.

Soon as I got home and used a track pump tyre seated with a nice pop sound no problem.

This was on a tubeless rim so the above may or may not help.:D

Exactly, is all about damage limitation

Are you putting it on with a little air in the tube to give it shape?

If not then the tube can sit flat under a part of the bead giving you a high point.

Put a bit of air in just to shape the tube and go round making sure the tube is within the tyre not under the bead.

What a lovely day for the last weekend in October. Took the Dolly out for a blast and realised about 40% into my route that I wasn't going to get back in time for the F1 qualifying so gave it some stick. Net result was my best 40k according to Mr Garmin and a load of PR's :p https://www.strava.com/activities/759392073

It meant that I didn't even mind once I realised it was free practice rather than qualifying :o

Great work ^

I had trouble last night with the uppermost insides of my thighs - they were burning (usually get burn in my quads). Will try stretching over the few days see if they just need loosening up.

Went a pedal this morning as it was fresh and I was on my lonesome.

Got a puncture about 13 minutes in after climbing out to the back roads, part of me was saying just cut it short and go a different route as the tyre won't be as hard as it should be and various other mental hurdles.

Once I warmed up more I just thought **** it and headed on my intended route.

I caught 3 guys out a Sunday pedal from a local club, chatted away and they were taking some long spells with two on the front. Felt I was in the way a bit and I was riding faster than them but not enough to leave them and make it home in one piece. Think they were around 15-16mph average.

Clipped off the back about 50ft and just used them to pace myself(big problem of mine) then when they turned off I caught up with a group of 4 guys from a different club. Few old chaps. We were in the 'valley' now with a tailwind so it would take a lot to leave them so I got chatting away and actually started changing position every so often and giving the 5th man space between the back 2 guys.

Felt I had plenty left in the tank to maintain around the 20mph average mark on the way home myself. Hopefully if I can keep this sort of ride up it'll give me a good base miles to improve on next year.

Anyone know the screw dimensions for hangers? are they the same for all hangers?

I have somehow bent one of them. Would prefer to just get a pack of screws over getting a whole replacement hanger. I got a pack of 10mm M3's but they seem to be a bit thin.
