Road Cycling

80 riders at the Bowl or the road race? Thomas is right, sounds like carnage! Goodluck!

At the Bowl. Supposedly quite a wide track but plenty of 'traffic' so to speak. Lots of wheels to follow but equally lots to avoid too I'm sure. 4 weeks to throw a little crit simulation in to the training. Not a technical course but I still expect surges. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail and all that :p

The RR is a smaller field, maybe 50 or so

I saw someone posted the link to these earlier this year, Hunt Race Aero, apologies, I couldn't find the post and TBH got bored looking :)

Does anyone have any opinions on them? I'm trying to help a fellow biking friend, he wants something different.

No direct experience myself but a friend has a set of Hunt wheels on his Mason and rates them very highly. Is your friend not looking for anything deeper?

Basically wants decent alternative to the normal Zondas/Cosmic etc.

These are there or there abouts, not many reviews, but all seemed positive.

I can't see past the Zonda's personally - 2 years, totally bomb proof, winter wheels now for me with new carbon ones for the summer. Sure reliable and never needed touched. Must be around 5,000 miles on them.

I'm quite tempted to try and get a ticket for the Cyclist Track Day in April. Although it is the day of the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race.

As much as I like my Tarmac (and I would probably stick with it), I'd quite like to test some new bikes. Like a Roubaix. And a Canyon.

Had a good 25 miles on the turbo last night on a group ride, will be doing another later in the week as I'm driving for two days... 30mph winds and rain forecast today, then 40mph winds tomorrow! :o
What kind of BB do you have? might be able to get a spacer in behind it? (or move it from the other side, if you've got one there)
PF30/BB30 although the cups look like they're threaded it's actually pressfit.
There's not a lot you can do about inner chainring distance on a pressfit system
My Defy has a larger 'wavy washer' on it's FSA Gossamer crankset that seems to have a larger 'wave' in it increasing the distance, so I wonder if I can just do the same...

No direct experience but HUNT make very well regarded wheelsets, I'd own some no questions asked. The Disc 4Season they do are some of the best well regarded winter road disc wheelsets, if not the best in the lower price brackets.

Lots of people I know have Zondas and love them, I have some Khamsin's and would happily own other Campagnolo wheels (like some Zondas!), but can't really justify upgrading to them when I have some Shimano RS81's.

It'll be carnage so take care and find some good wheels to follow! Practice your kick as it'll just be sprinting & active recovery (like any crit then lol) :)

I'm in two minds about my Zondas. Yes they are far better than the Mavic Aksium Ones that came with my bike in terms of stiffness (I can feel the Aksium rub the brake pad when standing on a climb) and weight but they've only done maybe 5-6k miles and I've had issues with the bearings on both wheels already. First time a mate had a look at the bearings in the rear for me and it was sorted for a short while but it soon started feeling real rough again. I noticed the front is similar though not as rough. There is also a bit of play in the freehub.

They're currently in a bike shop.. since Friday.. waiting to hear their verdict. Hopefully not too expensive!

I wouldn't stress too much about 5-6k miles, providing much of that was in the wet/winter. I killed the rear bearings on my Khamsin's within 3000 miles (May 2015 - Feb 2016) but it only cost £19 to get new ones (even fitted by the LBS) and I had abused them commuting all weathers. I bought more bearings for the front in preparation & I'm intending on putting them on the other halfs steed so they get some use (and flogging the cheap/rubbish Giant wheels her ride came with).

Yeah maybe but the Aksiums have done about the same mileage in far worse conditions and still spinning freely :)

Hoping there's nothing wrong with the freehub mainly as that won't be the cheapest of items. They had done maybe 4k miles before we had a look at the bearings the first time.

Rule 5 in full effect today

All good till I slowed down for a set of lights on amber going to red, my mate momentarily didn't react and then decided to hit the back of me, and plough into a traffic light pole!! He was just slightly distracted and on the flats and couldn't get to the brakes in time. Puncture, slightly dinged rim, very sore leg but after 15 mins we managed to get home a few miles up the road. Should get a free xray later as he off to work....in an A&E department!!

Still first proper ride with Vectors 2s.......power output seems ok for 4 of us in very windy/wet conditions. Only downside is that I can not get the Keo cleats to sit in the right position on the new R5B Fizik shoes. I played around with Keo and SPD-SL cleats on the shoes last night but they won't sit right and no matter how much I tried with both sets of cleats, the shoes were rubbing the crank arms and pod of the Vector.....beautiful shoes but looks like I'll need to return them.

That's your fault! :p You need to give some warning before slowing down if you're riding in a group.

I did - but he admitted that he was not concentrating, had his hands on the flats and therefore not covering his brakes.....and by the time he reacted (to the lights now at red!) it was too late!

Already own a pair of LG shoes - been superb but need some new ones - reduced to £65.....not sure if I love them or hate them!!!

Anyone else with lace up shoes??

I think they look pretty good.. maybe better with a different colour though.
Be aware LG size very small. Bought a pair of 44 winter boots and I couldn't even get my foot in! (44 usually for Mavic)

Ouch! Easily done, I'm sure we've all had lapses of concentration before, I know I've zoned out when tired and following a wheel, suddenly to hit a called pothole or get close to some road furniture I know is there! You're lucky as at 15mph it could've been much worse, for both of you!

Not sure of the issue with the shoes, done some googling around? I'm sure you're not the first to ride R5B's and Vectors.
Anyone ridden a Mango bike? I'm looking at their Point AR frameset for a new winter/bad weather/trails bike and at £269 it's pretty hard to beat.
Nope, asked around my local groups and nobody had seen or ridden one, I think the closest I'd found was someone saying they'd ridden a Mango BMX/MTB many years ago.

Dislike. They look like schoolboy shoes :p
Then again that could just be the glossy black (I'm not a huge fan of shiny/glossy). Also, apart from the black/yellow contrast and logo they're a very bland design. I approve of the yellow, obviously! ;)

The design reminds me of those ultra reflective ones, Giro Empire. My day-to-day shoe is currently a Giro Treble II and I'd happily own more Giro shoes. Much better quality, fit and feel than the Shimano, DHB and Northwave shoes I've had/tried. For the £50 (I got them for) they were an absolute steal (slightly worrying how similar the feel is to my £180 Sidi's)! Think the Techne is the current alternative/replacement (looks very similar)? Mine are even 2 & 3 bolt compatible (SPD & SPD-SL).

Did a little time trial test yesterday in preparation for relay triathlon bike leg thing. I figured I should at least have some experience of max effort beforehand. It hurt!

30 minutes at 187bpm, 23.9mph avg, 92rpm. I think I started a bit hot - first lap wasn't far off my PB and a 10-12mph crosswind throughout was just a little demotivating everytime I hit the long straight with it in my face. I could potentially go a bit more aero by dropping the one 5mm spacer remaining but not sure it's worth it as I think power output may suffer. Not exactly a comfortable position!

I found it difficult to judge cadence... I have effectively two options with my gearing ~85 or ~92 (without changing gear in a lap). 85 felt more powerful, less taxing on the lungs but I wasn't sure the muscles would hold out as that's quite low compared to my usual 95-100.

The previous three days weren't exactly light (87 miles on Saturday, walking around all day Sunday, 48 miles Monday) so hopefully with fresher legs I could go faster.
