Looks like £170 is the going rate for a set of Ultegra 6800 Brifters currently? Using the pair that came with the Propel on the Emonda ALR so need to replace them before selling. Will keep an eye out for something used in good condition but they seem to hold value well.

Merlin have them for £170 w/o cables, same price on CRC with cables by the looks of things.

(10% CRC discount, 12% Wiggle and Quidco in my arsenal)

Keep an eye on Bikeradar's Classifieds. Just had a quick check and looks like some brand new Ultegra shifters sold on there for < £130 recently.

Another beasting with the coach today.

Warm up - followed by 7 x 4 mins @ just over FTP (I was tasked with averaging 250W for the 4 min efforts - managed it ok) with 3 minutes recovery in between. Idea being working on Aerobic Decoupling.

This metric simply compares how heart rate reacts to a steady power effort and is a fantastic reference of your fitness and an indicator for long climbs or time trialing. Your ability to maintain a steady application of power and keep “under control” will allow for a predictable duration of the application of power and energy usage.

Again some good information, good feedback and interesting to see all the numbers and data etc.

Next week sounds rank.........2 x 20 mins blocks to work on average max power (not FTP)......

Nice work :) I am so glad you are enjoying your time and getting a lot back from your coach. Sounds superb!
Regular 2x20, 2x30, 1x40 and 1x60 will seriously do massive things for your cycling and after a few weeks of it the longer intervals on a turbo really don't worry you even half as much. Take your averages from 2x20 next week and in 6 weeks time see how you are fairing in similar sessions.... Sounds like he's got you in the same sort of build phase my coach has just now and the gains you see over the weeks in terms of power up/HR lower for same time periods is excellent.
I done 2x20 off 2 min recs twice last week with a 5x5 session with longer recs. This week onto 1x40mins with a 5x5.

I got out for a few miles and hills yesterday. I was meeting a meeting mate in an adjacent village. Upon getting there, I noticed this:

Good job I did. After a swift drive home, I unpacked my summer bike from my bike bag (where it has lived since September), and finally got some miles in: https://www.strava.com/activities/872166872. It felt so good to get out for more than an hour with someone else. It has been a rarity recently. A slow speed, but hey, its hardly surprising.
DAMN! That could have been quite nasty!

Going rate on the 'bay seems to be <£150 and sometimes as low as <£120 but they're mostly used or taken from built bikes so not 'new'.
I love my Garmin, but the main reason is that it allows me to plan where I'm going and then get the Garmin to satnav for me. Speed is secondary - I could get away with just putting a sticker on the stem that says "Too slow".
I've been toying with the idea of this headset cap but it's never in stock so now I'm back to looking at Kapz and was considering a 'Shut up legs' one, but after seeing Kristian House's I want someone different again. Although some of the prices from Kapz are crazy! :o
guess I can just buy the two rotors 160/140mm and be done, they're not that expensive.
I think that's it, they're not exactly badly priced so just get some new ones! ;)

Just make them shimano so you know in future 1.5mm is the minimum lol

Wow! Not sure how I missed that the first time but consider yourself very lucky! Go and buy a lottery ticket, quick! :)

I've only just noticed from looking at the pic I took, but it also looks like the opposite fork has a crack also. Seems to be where the carbon is bonded to the alloy part of the fork.

So, in the market for some new forks then!

First Crit entered for 25/03/17. 25m at the MK Bowl.

Not a particularly exciting course being a fairly flat oval though much closer for me than Hillingdon and being Cat 4 only (although an 80 rider field potentially) it's a chance to hone my 'race legs' before my first RR on the 9th April, providing I'm allocated a spot.

Rode a lap of the circuit yesterday, albeit slowly, as part of my Sunday ride, nothing challenging on there at all climb wise so it'll just be the elements (quite exposed to the wind), other riders and road surfaces to watch out for.

I know that circuit quite well. We were on those roads yesterday. The uphills are draggy on rough surfaces but I think I prefer to do it in the anti clockwise direction you suggest. we knocked out 110km but i think I got my fuelling wrong as I was cramping at 90km despite it not being that intense a pace. Was planning on an imperial ton next weekend but realistically my legs haven't got that in them yet.

Meh, I actually own a single speed bike, and while it's grand for getting me to and from work, it would be no fun on any kind of serious hill, so it's not really in the same league.

Sent you a few questions via trust regarding your singlespeed and commuting if that's ok VonHelmet. No rush for a reply, I've rambled on a fair bit!! Didn't want to clog up the thread. :)

Where about are you based? Will be heading out that way again at some point soon.

Agreed, the surfaces aren't particularly quick and the shallow drags and wind could be quite draining if not sheltered well in the bunch. The KOM section could be entertaining.

If by fuelling you mean hydration I'd probably agree. Warmer winter/spring rides are tricky as it's easy to not notice the creep from single digit degrees in to double figures or when the wind drops. I've ridden in 16 degrees before with thermal arm & knee warmers without realising and then cramping due to (presumably) dehydration/salt balance. The ride started at about 7 degrees and wasn't due to be over 12 but clouds cleared and the sun came out though I wasn't ever 'hot' at any point. That said I'm not sure if cramp and a link to dehydration/loss of salts has ever been proved but might be wrong...

If you weren't struggling for energy or feeling like you were close to bonking then I'd say it's more likely to be dehydration or loss of salts than it is lack of calories. Try staying cooler if you can. I take my cycling cap off after a while on long rides and unzip a gilet/jersey slightly too.

bit fiddly getting off as it's tight up there.
I've heard that before (badaboom-tish)! Thanks, may dig mine out when fitting larger saddlebag for sportives. Hope you get to the bottom of those DI2 problems. Always nice when you eventually figure out where/what the fault is! :o

80 riders at the Bowl or the road race? Thomas is right, sounds like carnage! Goodluck!

One of my girlfriends' sisters lives in Wing so I know I've been around there a couple of times! Wouldn't say I knew the roads but do they close them? Traffic is always horrific around there, can only imagine what a road closure does! :o

Mild again here this morning and winds not as bad as forecast. Not looking forwards to the 30mph winds (+rain) tomorrow or the 40mph winds on thursday! May end up driving both days so need to get back on the turbo later. Looks like turbo for the weekend as well! Boo! The nice weather didn't last long! :)

I’m selling the disc wheelset and rotors that came with my BMC as ive upgraded. I’ve sold the rotors through a bike forum, but I cant for the life of me remember if it’s the rotors that came with the centrelock fixing lock/nut, of if it’s the wheelset.
Does anyone know?

Any ideas on what I can get as a spacer to move my chainrings 'out' from my frame some more? The Praxis Works TURN crankset which came on my Diverge was ok, but now I have the Powertap C1 rings they sit much closer to the frame. The FD indexing is right at the bottom of the one index screw and the 'inner plate' of the FD sometimes rubs on the inside of the large chainring, particularly when pushing MEGA^WATTS.

The crankset already has a 'wavy washer' between the crank spindle, spider and BB but I need a little more clearance as the chainrings are still very close. Around 2-3mm clearance at the closest, I'm scared how easily debris could easily jam in it! :o

can't imagine anything you can fit in there that wouldn't cause issues with the bottom bracket etc - I think anything between the BB and cranks would cause more wear on them etc. Does look awfully close mind you....
