Road Cycling

Personally I prefer to carry a decent sized pump (Morph Mountain in my case). However, I do (or did :() a lot of long distance and multi-day riding. I found mini-pumps too irritating.

I'd definitely be looking at a frame-fit pump if I was doing audax distances

Equally, mini-pumps are fine for the purposes of just getting you home and such :)

I have a lezyne hp one which has been used in anger several times. It's pretty good. I've got a lezyne hv one on my cx bike but I've not had cause to use that, and I've got a bontrager combo co2/pump which has also gone unused.

I like the little hose on the lezyne ones, saves having to try to pump with everything in a rigid position.

Having a hose on the pump makes them massively easier to use. If I were to go mini-pump again this would be a prerequisite.

Sorry to hear that Budge. Wish you a speedy recovery.

I cycled to work everyday last week for the first time since moving jobs in March. 16.5 miles each way. Feeling a little bit tired today! Thankfully it was Mon-Weds and Fri-Sat so being off Thursday helped me recover.

For those who have the Gabba jersey or anything similar how often do you wash them with it being more of a jacket/technical fabric? I only wear summer jerseys once and then cycle back home in a fresh one. They're cheap so have plenty. Don't really fancy buying more than one Gabba to be honest.

You shouldn't need to wash it very regularly at all, unless you're super sweaty and don't where any kind of base layer.

I took my elder daughter out for a bike ride this afternoon. Just 6 miles. Mostly off-road, and quite muddy in places, but quite a bit on the roads as well. She did pretty well with it. She struggled a bit on the "hills" but she pushed on.

My elemnt bolt locked up 4 miles in and stopped responding. I had to give it a hard reset. First time I've seen it do that. Bit odd.

Sacrilege. #elemntsneverdie

I mean, that would work, but before they upgraded to their shiny new look Facebook sharing wasn't on by default.

Yeah, it wasn't the most helpful post, sorry :)

I imagine if it's super annoying someone will create a Chrome extension to automatically untick it soon enough (or perhaps a generic version of such a thing already exists?)

noooo my Edge 1000 has broken :( well the power switch has broken from the board. Trying to find someone to repair as Garmin was £195 for a refurb unit....

Looking at models, the 820 is basically a 1000 but in a smaller shell I believe? Don't want to move away from Garmin as I have so many mounts that would need replacing.

As others have said/hinted at, I'd move to the Elemnt (Bolt) personally. I moved from the 810 to it and despite the black and white display it is an upgrade in many ways. So much more reliable too. The 820 I've seen in action was similarly unimpressive.

I'd agree with you. Kop is steeper and does progress linearly but overall it's slightly shorter. Whiteleaf undulates between 15-17% so getting any sort of rhythm is difficult. Visually it's also quite a bit more intimidating I found in the past.

Wiggans Lane, the full climb starts on the B4009, Lower Icknield Way. Mostly shallow grades, as a short fast descent and then a bit of a kick at the top  Watched @Steedie suffer on it earlier in the year.

We'll get something on the calendar in 2018, @FrenchTart owes me a visit :p

I might even have recovered my fitness by then too ;)

Sounds good :)

Getting the excuses in nice and early? :p

Pretty much :p Though hoping to do an everest in May/June next year so I really won't have much of an excuse for being off form unless it's the day after or something :p

Crud Roadracers work one of two ways

1) you leave them next to your bike and they sort of fall on and work perfectly forever more. This mainly happens if you have a Trek, as Treks were what they used when they designed them

2) you spend hours sodding around trying to get them to stop sss-ssss-sss-ssss ing. You finally achieve it. You take the bike out of the workstand, ride it 30 metres (no more, no less) and they start hissing again. Repeat for another few hours. Remove. give the guards to a mate who has a trek and buy a kinesis T2

Ask me how I know....

That was my experience of the mk2s too. I've heard from a few people that the mk3s are like night and day in terms of how much better they are though. Have you tried them?

I have heard they're better, but after my experiences with Mk2s I bought a Kinesis T2 so haven't had any need for them since

Yeah, also same here. I use big boy mudguards these days.

However, if they actually live up to expectations I might try some on a more racey bike in future. I'd prefer to let other people be guinea pigs though...
