Road Cycling

Thanks Roady.

I'm not keen on spending £500 tbh, I was thinking more £300.

I think if Chinese carbon is going to come in at £500 I'll just change my Giant PR-2's to something £300 ish and alloy, although actually at the present the PR-2's are holding up well (prob due to me not weighing much).

I'm now booked up and paid up for the Mad Summer Hare - early Sept (72 mile option).

You doing that in a group?? or on your own?

Big squad of us heading up as well.

On my own. Though hopefully I won't be the only one on the course! :p
I'm arriving on the Friday and will likely get out for a ride Saturday morning. If anyone's about and fancies a mini ride that would be fun! No particular plan yet.

Genuinely could have had a OcUK team at the Loch Ness Etape thing this year with you all coming up.....
I didn't enter it this year. It was meant to be my bit of "fun" last year as it's on the doorstep and ended up ruining the start of my actual season.
Plus you have to get up too early.
Plus it's a rip off.
Plus it's freezing.
Have fun! :p
How did it end up ruining the start of your season?

Just don't go out for drinks with any of them the night before and you'll be ok! ;)
Berger (OcUK member) was on that ride too :)
Think he was just doing a couple of laps, not racing. He was complaining about his ass hurting from the weekend but I didn't like to ask too many questions... :o;)
Rode briefly with him on sunday & it was his first ride in a month so he was struggling a little! :p

Some hero smacked a road cone that "just jumped out in front of me" as I was on his wheel about 1 minute from the finish.
Ambulance to A&E. Shoulder popped out socket and ruined ligaments. I now have a permanent click where my shoulder attaches to collarbone and cannot sleep on my left hand side.... All for a bit of fun :p

Ouch. How did he fair?

Were you 'racing' the sportive? :p

It's only 66 miles so I'm tempted to just smash through it but at same time I have a free ride as I'm writing a review for a blog after so perhaps I should take some time to see the sights* and the feed stops... Not sure how much a race report is in the spirit of the event.

* It's Scotland so it will probably be like last time I was at the Loch Ness. Cold, drizzly, foggy.

He was totally fine of course and didn't even apologise....
I wasn't racing at all! I had sat up miles prior and was sitting in that little group taking an easy run in.
For your blog I would just see what weather is like. 2 years ago there was 8 inches of snow feel shortly after the event and last year it was 0 and there was snowy conditions near the top of the climb so stopping and detailing things might be last thing on your mind if it is grim.
Remember this is a non competitive "sportive" but happens to have a KOM prize and 1st,2nd,3rd places. Nonsense.

xdcx doesn't go on club runs because all the old folk with nothing better to do moan at people who do 18.1mph instead of 18mph :p
Love it when the 60 something year old "leader" is telling everyone on a Sunday morning that it is a "z2 ride".... Is that my z2 or your z2? Are we combining watt ranges and establishing an average for the z2 of the group? **** me.

I'd like to know this too.

I'm on my 3rd set now, The first two sets were from 2013cycling2013 on ebay, the last were from carbonspeedcycle, this was mainly due to the prices going up disproportionately so thought I'd try someone new, they were recommended from looking around. This last set were ordered on 6th March and turned up on 13th March. I requested a few bits which I can provide via trust (you want this info) Last set as per the previous runs 100% true, and seems well tensioned. I went for Powerway hubs this time, only ridden the front on one TT but it handled very well in extremely windy conditions and no issues with braking (sporting course)

I sold my first set and the second are used daily, and have had a full season of CX racing so they certainly withstand a good bashing and the occasional exploded derailleur into the spokes....

Reminds me of the couple of 'Hereford Wheelers' easy sunday rides I've been on. Quoted 15-16mph avg, easy pace for 35-40 miles and back by midday. Cue people with flat bars, panniers and such leisurely and generally ***** riding in traffic I'm fearing for their safety/eyesight and having to stop and wait whenever I push 15mph+ off the front and look back. I was the youngest by quite a margin and nobody knows the route except for 'Dave' who's so vague I'm surprised we even went the right ****ing direction out of town. Sure enough the couple of us holding the avg up front put some serious time into the nodders on any hill/climb having to wait at the top only for them to casually pedal past without a care in the world. It's then 11am before we even reach the cafe 'destination', after a leisurely coffee & cake we're moving off at just before 12 and Dave drops the clanger - that it wasn't even the 'turnaround point' and he's going for a further 15+ miles before heading back home!:o:mad:

Cue usually 3-4 people thinking *flock this, we wanted an afternoon* and hammering the ride home. Of course then a snarky comment on facebook organising the next ride 'this time we'll keep everyone together for a more enjoyable time'. Screw you Dave, screw you and your panniers full of self righteous indignation.:D

Haha. I have always found this funny... Apparently not a race but then published results with times, and the occasional prize for high up positions. Oh and every media outlet will call it a race.

Yes, and the worst thing of it all is that it encourages utter morons with no bike handling or bunch riding ability to think they ARE racing.
It'll take something big time bad to happen before they clamp down on it under the health and safety/liability/insurance stuff but that will come.

At the start of the Sportive I did (and SDK half did :p ) the organiser guy stood up on a podium with a loudspeaker and reminded everyone "it's not a race" - there was MUCH laughter, included by the guy himself.

Ironically the instant anyone says it's not a race you damn well know it is one.
