Road Cycling

In other non-bottom related news, my wheels and brakes for my CX bike arrived yesterday. Now I just need some tyres and cables and a bunch of accessory type bits - bottle cages and the like - and I can build my new bike.

A chunk of it has gone on my credit card and Paypal credit to be paid off over the next few months. Need to find a way to convincingly afford the above in the near future as the frame and groupset are burining a hole in my pocket... I think I'll sell my old bike and then I'll be good to go and then I can just quietly pay the rest off...

I have part worn Giant branded 700x23mm & 700x25mm tyres you're welcome to if you want? Think I even have a worn Mitchelin pro4 endurance 23mm I'll never use too, but only 1 of them, the Giants are pairs. Just cover postage (£4?)

So... going off the front at the end of the penultimate lap and setting a new MHR isn't a good strategy for not getting swallowed up and spat out on the final rise, who knew? :p

Seemed to float up the climb with everyone else moving backwards on the penultimate lap so figured **** it and had a good dig over the top, promptly reeled back in :o I guess a mixture of excitement and not really spotting the finessing going on was partly to blame. Nothing got away due to being such a simple circuit, chased a few things down early on, few short turns on the front and stayed in the top 10-15 generally.

Sounds like the gates will be open next week which add two technical turns and require chasing back on which will thin things out a bit and separate those with watts from those without :D

No time to oggle the girls/women except to shout for them to keep left/right/show us your **** as we whizzed past.

Edit: Power & HR zones for those interested.

Sounds like fun!

Bundy was back to the full route, I felt strong and made it all the way round and even felt strong for the finish. Came in 100 yards down in the end after doing a massive effort to bridge a gap.

I know a few in here rate the Michelin Pro 4's really well but what are the Pro 3's like? Need some new tyres and seen these for £30 a pair with free tubes. Bargain or worth spending the extra for Pro 4's? Mostly to be used for commuting.

I've been using Wiggle Lifeline prime armour for commuting and "mileage accumulation"

They're ace.

I'm kind of tempted to try those Lifeline tyres based on all the positive feedback. What's their wet grip like?

Also, have to step in to defend Pro4s :p They're not as nice to ride on as GP4000SIIs of course but they're quite a bit cheaper.

@Lethal`
Touch is spot on, all great routes we use frequently.
Where abouts are you staying? I'll be out training on Saturday morning so let me know what you are planning ride wise and can maybe hook in and meet up with you :)
Ah nice. Would be good to be shown around :) Up for anything really.. I haven't ridden for 4 days somehow... crazy busy with work so legs should be nice and fresh!

Staying just over the Ness bridge on west side so pretty central. I'll shoot you a message in trust.

I've not ridden them in the wet yet i'm afraid. They do grip very well in the dry - i replaced a well-worn GP 4 Season front/Schwalbe Durano rear and i'm very pleased - grip is excellent although they do take 50 or so miles to scrub in, and they're not quite as feelsome as more expensive tyres, they feel a bit hard if you get what i mean

Great riding Ben and good that you feel that strong! I wouldn't be overly concerned with getting points/positions so early in racing. You'll learn much more race-craft and how different tactics work when riding as a strong CAT4 rather than as a CAT3 at the back of the bunch struggling to move up! Enjoy being strong, treat it all as good experience no matter where you finish! :D

The Pro4 V1's (if you can find them) are that bit cheaper than the V2's. I recall paying £22/24 per tyre so you might be able to find old stock for less than £20 new.

As mentioned, not much mention of the Pro3's. The Pro4's were a huge 'breakthrough' which to me indicates the earlier versions were nowhere near as good...

I'm also using these on my commuter as a cheaper alternative to GP4 Seasons. So far so good.

They look much slicker than GP 4Seasons? More similar to a GP 4000 sii?

I'm still loving my Roubaix Pro which came on my Diverge. They seem crazy cheap for how good they are so I'm very happy to consider them my 4Seasons replacement. Even now I've put slicker & ligher Pro4's on (similar price), they feel no quicker! :o

Aren't slicker tyres better for grip in the wet due to more contact patch?

The Prime Armours seem fine in the wet to me although I've not had a true soaking since getting them.

For commuting it's hard to see past them for £13 a tyre. Obviously not a super plush ride, but no more hosepipe-like than the Pro4.:p

Thanks @Roady not in any rush to move up as it's nice to be big fish in a small pond for a while at least!

Does anybody have any recommendations for trying to ascertain PM battery data from a .fit file? I don't know if this is even recorded?

Powertap stupidly removed the Battery % field with their most recent app update.
  • I've tried a few BT apps on IOS but had no joy in actually getting a % reading.
  • It isn't something the Elemnt can display currently (though it can show phone battery!).
  • No joy on OSX device manager
  • Haven't tried checking within Golden Cheetah yet.
  • I do have the ANT+ protocol available to use as well though.
They keep suggesting this feature will reappear "very soon" but it's a good job I haven't held my breath.

Short of actually taking the battery out and testing it are there any suggestions I've not thought of? I don't think I've any other devices that show a battery life that take AAA's. Even just a voltage reading would be sufficient.

And:

Syncro-shift now available on older versions of Di2 (doesn't benefit me as I'm still in the dark ages :p)
