Road Cycling

Checked my number - 93160. It was well attended, but don't think there was 93,000 riders! :D

Where about's did you see people riding?

Yeah I think the 60 would be more enjoyable, the only shame is you don't really get out of Herefordshire to enjoy the great Welsh road surfaces! ;)

I saw some guys out between Hereford and Gloucester at around 10 with really low numbers.

Dull ache in my knees this morning, but gradually getting better from the strained type of feeling I had yesterday. Top of 1 foot and sit bone area is still a little bit tender. Sore lower back. Legs are otherwise feeling fine! Going to commute all week as I'm off on friday and can't do the club rides on saturday morning so that'll be my extra rest days. Will see about getting a ride in on sunday to make up for it!

Think I actually hurt my lower back foam rolling afterwards (flopping around like a limp fish) and not actually riding...! :o Need to check out some better rolling methods (currently doing the thigh ones from BC) which are easier on the arms/shoulders after a ride. I only tend to roll my legs, maybe need to look at a lower back/shoulder routine to occasionally use. I've got out of my additional core exercise routine recently too. Pretty sure that would help recovery!

Looks like a good warmup ride for Etape Du Tour 2018 there, Roady! ;)
Haha, erm...! Maybe... Although with mini^roady arriving in 2 months time I think I can pretty much write off any big riding ambitions in 2018. Maybe 2019/20! Need to probably do the Velothon too (just so I've done it). For the rest of this year I'm keeping things local, getting myself into TT's and probably the local chaingang. My riding will change a little from the current quite laid back easy distance pacing to higher intensity & flat/speedy routes. I really do need to cross off The Tumble before the end of the year though.

Oh cool, although it wasn't us! :D

All of the 'Wheelie Big Cycle' routes went North of Hereford, curved slightly East before cutting almost directly West before swinging pretty much 180 to come back in on the A44 (93 mile, the shorter ones followed the same route out, just cut back sooner).

Ahhhhhhh summer is here!

Glorious sunshine and a tailwind to work, what dreams are made of surely?

Hopefully a good bunch out tonight for a good workout as I'm feeling strong. Watch this space :)

I'm guessing you were flying over for Etape Du Tour 2017, came across an article on the Echo news site, about how too many passengers turned up with bikes to fit them all in the hope! Affected a local Southampton rider, who tends to be ranked high on Strava.

181km with ~3300m of climbing, stage (18?) for the Tdf pros in a few days time, Col d'Azoard is insane with 14km averaging ~7.5%!

You aren't the first one to think that. Fortunately I wasn't.. I was just flying back from Munich to London. I don't know how they managed to forget it and I doubt it was a space issue as there were very few bags coming off the carousel. Safe to say I wasn't best pleased at 11pm Friday night when they said they have no trace of it!

It eventually turned up in Heathrow at 8am. Then they took another 8 hours to deliver it to me just 3 miles away

Pathetic amount of climbing :D Tomorrow is going to be the good day!

What would you guys choose? A jersey that is very tight around the arms or a jersey that is very loose around the chest/torso.

I bought an XL and L Rapha Classic jersey and this is the problem I have. My primary hobby is "bodybuilding" and second is cycling so my arms are much bigger than your average cyclist.

Tight enough not to flap but comfortable enough to move. I have the rapha aero jersey and it's tight on the arms but not restrictive. I suffer from long arm (monkey) syndrome but will always favour a tighter fit and put up with the cuffs being slightly too short.

Tight arms, as they'll generally stretch and you could even snip some stitching to get the fit more comfortable. Nothing you can do about a loose body/chest.

I have the same issue in Rapha, I'm a Large arms/shoulders and a Medium body. Thankfully the last ~24 months I've toned up and lost my belly so I quite like the 'aero fit' of most of my jerseys in medium! ;)

EDIT: I'm a Medium or Large in Castelli (a Large isn't 'big' on me) & Medium in Sportful. Both in medium are very 'aero', but then most of my jerseys are race fit. Medium DHB is quite a relaxed fit on me but not baggy enough to try small.

I'd put the Rapha Large sizing slightly larger than Castelli & Sportful. The Medium similar, it seems to be slightly longer in the body with similar shoulders & slightly looser arms/cuffs.

Sat mid way down Streatley Hill in pitch black after both tyres going flat at the same time (only one tube on me). Torrential rain and a heavy thunderstorm. I'm a bit scared. Was a great ride up until that point

Have to wait 30 minutes to get picked up lol

Does cycling socks help at all, been reading about sores and blood circulation. For long rides, especially with clip in shoes. Should I buy some for the long run? Any specific lol

I've never really noticed any difference on socks on the road. Only really mtb where you're out the saddle and moving your weight around a bit more.

Bike insurance any to be avoided? Bikemo seem recommended from a quick search, any others to consider?

Haven't bothered before as I'd just use it as a reason to upgrade if I crash etc.

Do Bikmo cover bikes in transit with airline?

I was pretty worried the other day after BA said they've no trace of my bike and reading the claims from airlines rarely even touch the value of the bike + accessories. I had my bike, two sets of shoes and a fair amount of clothing in the bag so very glad it did turn up undamaged.
