Road Cycling

@BennyC

How about the infamous "Mauldeth Mountain" right near my house? @One More Solo will remember just how tough this can be from his days living in Burnage.

You guys seem to be pretty optimistic with the rest time!
Riding for 15-24 hours is like a full day - you'd normally eat 3 meals in that time just going about your normal day. When you add in the cycling on top, you'll want to at least double the calorie intake.
In my experience, I would need at least 30 mins per meal to eat and allow it to digest a little before cycling again. I imagine it's very difficult to eat on the bike whilst doing this sort of thing, too. You pretty much need to have your hands on the bars the entire time for climbing and descending.

I've ridden a 24 hour ride before. I factored in about 3 hours of rest, which admittedly is quite a bit on the low side but it's not like anyone claimed that those timings were perfect. Ball park at best. Posting the calculator is really for indicative purposes.

So essentially all the figures in the first ride I posted are unrealistic. I'd be looking at something more akin to 20+ hours, with expectation to go over. I also wouldn't be planning to maintain 200W all the way up every climb if I could possibly avoid it.

edit: reworded as I was in a rush and it came across more arsey than I intended.

Want to go for the Fizik R1Bs, anyone know how fizik come up size wise, compared to mavics? I looked online and it said that the 43 should be a good size, but the 43 in the mavics were too tight.
I found Fizik's tight when I tried them in a shop (Evans'?) but I've never had to buy wide shoes in any of my other cycling shoe brands (Sidi, Giro & Shimano).

I can only imagine it is damage from my flight to Inverness in April when the top tube was damaged too. Wheels sit on the outside of the Evoc case and it was clearly chucked around to get the top tube damage too. In which case it's probably been ridden many thousands of miles since but not sure I want to trust it.
Fair enough, at least you can pin it down to an 'incident'! The fact its from been slighty 'squashed' (rather than a road impact on the rim) still makes me think it's probably ok to ride, although you might find the spoke hole & spoke in the area under more stress than others so breaks/splits sooner than elsewhere on the rim. It's aluminium at the end of the day and not fragile carbon! :)

I'd be tempted to flog it 'as seen' (noting the damage) or keep it as a spare to use on a bike sat on a turbo. It's a good hub at the end of the day! You could even sell it as a 'turbo front wheel' due to the mark (recommending it's not ridden outside) alongside with the good rear.

If I were going to do similar down here I'd pick Aston Wood Climb over towards Wattlington just past Chinnor.
Quite a nice broken up climb with a couple of points where the gradient eases. But I think the 20% ramp in the middle would tax too much as doesn't look easy to carry much momentum up? That number of reps though! :o

You have to be very conservative when estimating power when everesting as it'll really fade with fatigue... FT will know from his 24H ride how much the accumulated fatigue and time takes it's toll. And Ross for that matter with his attempted 24H Zwift session...

Worked it out, with various youtubes. How did I NOT know there were secret buttons on the hoods that you can use to change screens on your garmin/ computer
Because they where secret?! :p

Inspecting my bike today and crikey my tires have took a real battering I'm not sure I've done much more than 1500 or 1600 miles on them but they are quite cut up now and squared off a fair bit too. Will retire them as my spares i think.

Gp4000 s ii the weapon of choice atm?

Jasmijn Muller is making an attempt at the LeJOG Womens record, starting tomorrow morning. 52 hours is some going

https://www.lejogrecord.co.uk/

pop out and give her a cheer if she goes close by
Hmm, she's coming pretty close to me on the bit between Warrington and Wigan. Depending on exactly what time she gets there I might be able to pop out and give her a shout.

I needed to drop some parts off to the bike shop this morning for my son's bike, and it's about 15km away so rode over, then met a mate and rode into work. It's only like 150m of climbing and I thought I would die. I have worse legs than my 9yr old, and he's slow as ****. I keep looking at my Garmin thinking, something's wrong here. Then I realise it's actually just me.

Stripped my diet down, cutting out all booze, and riding like hell. Not having this BS. It's rubbish!

What time do we reckon she'll pass Wigan? I'll have to head out at like 2am :p

assuming she holds 20mph as she is at the mo, about 21 hours after start time. So 4am. It's likely to be wee hours either way.

Although holding that pace will result in her breaking the mens record too. I haven't allowed for any stops though

Maybe she'll stop for tea and a sleep and I can just get up first thing and see whether she's in the vicinity on my way to work.
