Road Cycling

I'm going to guess London Dynamo are well known then for being a pain then?

Somewhat. To be fair though they are a huge club and so the likelihood of finding a bad apple wearing their kit is higher than other clubs.

That’s because they were out of Richmond Park #lostconfused
I thought this comment was great :D

I once watched a group of them chainganging round Richmond Park overtake an ambulance with an oncoming car. The back third of the group had to back out at the last second to avoid getting chopped up.

I was riding that TT, some of the club run dawdlers were simply ridiculous. Taking up literally the ENTIRE lane, not even attempting to keep in, even slighty. Which, while a race was clearly going on was pretty annoying. Enjoyable to ride against a pro conti level rider though.

Ah, nice one. It uses Hungry Hill lane right? That's the annoying road that has a few metres of smooth tarmac then bumpy stuff, then back to smooth tarmac, repeat!

I don't cycle with a club but have a small group of friends I go on rides with and the bikes vary from secondhand bikes that have cost £300 upto one guy riding a bike that goes well into the k's but nothing is ever mentioned. Everyone is just happy to be out on the roads and having a social. Likewise on the kit too, one guy is pretty much always in Rapha/Castelli where as I wear anything from PlanetX/Decathlon stuff to jerseys I've found for £20/30. I do have a couple of Sportful jerseys for commuting but I found those massively reduced and only have the 'better' gear when it's availible well below RRP.

Thanks for that buddy, none of my friends or coworkers cycle, most are the type that think cyclists shouldn’t be on the roads! I really want to ride with other cyclists and get in to doing sportives etc. If the weathers not too bad I’ll join their Sunday social this weekend:)

I'm kind of worried i'll be looked down on by everyone dressed in Rapha, wearing Oakley's and Kask protones while riding the latest carbon, disc brake, 7kg, Di2 things of beauty!
If they're like that then I can guarantee they're not a group of riders you'll want to ride with or get to know better!

In my experience cycling clubs are much more inclusive if you're *not* wearing the latest kit and riding the flashy bike. If you are then most club riders will assume you know what you're doing and feel like they don't need or bother to help you out! :D

Most regular club guys will always chat to the new guy near or at the start, usually as a way to determine how much work they'll be doing or if it'll be an easier ride. Occasionally setting the 'ground rules' if they're different to the norm. Although of course the norm will differ depending on area but around here the chat is usually indicating where any climb efforts and sprints are, also where any races back home are likely to kick off along with points to regroup. Certainly around here most rides are 'non-drop' and if significantly dropped the main rides will ease before usually waiting at the next junction or in the next village. The drop social rides will usually still have a rider or two who'll ease back to make sure the dropped rider is ok, once said rider has confirmed they know their way home/happy to drop then they'll push on.

I remember the first time I rode with a local lad called Iain, he was riding an old steelie, wearing a tshirt and smoking rollies. He then proceeded to smash the legs off everyone in the group over a series of climbs until we managed to explain to him it was a social ride and to ease up! Phenomenal rider.

At the weekend, a local club got called out on twitter by a pro for not respecting a time trial. No prizes for guessing which club.

Ed's a sound guy, rode with him once on an NFTO club ride but didn't actually get the chance to speak to him. Just remember him and I think Johnny Mcevoy winding Bibby up about something while the rest of us where trying to get our breath back at a junction.

Enjoyable to ride against a pro conti level rider though.
You've done quite a bit of that already mate! Great time and result yourself too, getting closer to Pat! :)

Mild enough to cycle to work in shorts and my convertible wind jacket without the sleeves at 0630 this morning! Was lovely outdoors until 1100ish, but now there's a bitter northerly wind taking the edge off the double figure temperature.

Might have to reduce hill reps due to freezing arms on the way home, while yesterday it was reduced due to boiling in the other jacket, I can't win!

Cheers Roady, slowly slowly catchy. These sporting courses suit him massively so I'm hoping once we get on flat DC courses again I may even be able to nudge ahead of him on my day.

Will you be doing many of the A3 events midweek this year? Bit of controversy down this way as Matt Downie was given joint 2nd on Sunday with Chambers even though he started late because of a puncture. We managed second team, so paid for my entry, and got some free overshoes from nopinz as a spot prize!

Got a sporting course over at Andover on Sunday but weather looks like it could be horrible to ride!

In slightly other news I'm heading down the coaching route with Trainsharp following my fitness test. Just waiting for all final details. Hopefully will see me being able to improve from my current relatively static base over the past year :(

Should I buy a cheap cobbled together BB30 / bearing press, the ones made from bolts, nuts and washers, or should I buy a tool like the one from Park Tools (HHP3)? I could take it to the local bike shop but I enjoy learning about the bike.

Lol, yes flippin auto correct. That is bizarre. Another sporting TT this weekend for me, then off to Calpe the weekend after :)

Lovely, where is your one this weekend? Is there a league running over your way like ours? Has 16 events, and something to keep me interested when the weather is still cold.

Eugh, warm weather training, sounds awful!

for how often you'll likely use it, i'd suggest something inbetween like an ice tools or jobsworth one. Better than a bodge, without costing like the park one does

Called the Redhill 18 this weekend. No, no league I'm aware of, just a few events myself and clubmates usually ride each year. Good events too usually with decent fields and prizes.
