Road Cycling

I can see the annoyance if you're going for a KOM but in general average speed has to many factors going against it to care about.

Seems true. It's fine when always out on the country roads but around towns and cities with a mix of riding it's almost pointless on Strava.

I'd have no problem using Myprotein items or at least trying them. Used to use them for protein and dextrose. At £6.29, you've not lost a deal if they aren't what you expected.

I do but don't deal with Cervelo if its regarding the crack you found.

Thought they were through with cracking BBs though.

Email is in trust

@eXist is the man for Cervelo I believe

In complete contrast to previous recent rides, got absolutely soaked today :D

Happened many a time before, don't mind it too much.

Can say the same for Saturdays ride.

Couldn't even see in front from the spray and brakes that did sweet FA.

Didn't mind because it wasn't very cold and we were riding hard enough to keep warm and dry off.

An hour or so on the trainer for me the past two days.

I don’t mind the rain when riding solo, but it’s a bit miserable in a group eating road dirt & all the spray makes me worry about getting run over & ruins the bike!

Don't mind getting caught in a shower if it's warm enough not to be miserable. But being cold, wet and with plenty of miles still do to + DT parts getting a peppering it's not for me.

Could well invest in 'proper' wet weather gear but that's an expense & faff and I'm quite happy to train indoors as I don't mind it at all :) I'll get outside whenever possible though.

I dusted off the turbo on Sunday morning as well. Don't mind some rain but the wind was really gusting, so didn't fancy ending up in a hedge or fence.

Annoying weekend for me, hoped to get out Saturday afternoon, but we had 25+mph winds with gusts to 50. Sunday's rain finished earlier than forecast at ~1630, but the wind was almost as harsh as Saturday and then I caught up with family on the phone.

So by end of tomorrow, I have ~135Km to ride to complete the Strava monthly distance challenge for the first time. I've never focussed on distance, but the heatwave changed that from power training up cat3/4 hills, as I was going through 2 litres if water very quickly. By good fortune, I'm rostered off work tomorrow, so I should get a good 50+ mile ride in then and just do 30+ after work today... Hopefully!

Hope you've missed me? Been utterly wiped out by illness from last Wednesday! :(

I had Tues & Weds booked off work (baby duties as mum is back to work and he's not at nursery/creche full time until this week), was hoping lil man went down for a long nap (2 hours) and I'd get a turbo session in but he didn't sleep long enough/it was too hot/too many other things to do. By the end of Wednesday I was feeling proper run down, Thursday came along and I had to call in sick, proper dizzy, sickness and fever. Miserable! Ended up wiped out in bed until saturday lunchtime! Fever utterly sucked in that hot spell we had, at several points I was under the duvet shivvering in 35+ degrees while melting like an ice cube! :o

Needless to say any thoughts if riding where firmly parked. This week the little one is doing 3 full days at Nursery so my cycle commutes are going to change. No lunchtime trips home as taking shorter lunch-times to finish at 4pm to go fetch him. My commute home will now be 6.5 miles, 4 of it with the baby chariot attached at < 15 mph! Low cadence strength drills it is then.

Roady, cracked frame around the BB on the R5 fingers crossed it’s a warranty job.
Fingers crossed! Gutted to hear regardless :(

A great ride on Saturday: The 68 mile Wiggle Tempest starting in Warwick, taking another event KOM : https://www.strava.com/activities/1717079779

Improved aero number placement :)

Cool cucumber! Great pics and even better ride mate, kudos! :)

Didnt realise you rode a gravel bike! That's heartening. To be honest, on whether to buy new wheels, I find myself (wait for it...) going round in circles.

I alternate between 1) being on the verge of buying and 2) deciding that I need to get out more before I can justify the outlay...
I was the same, ummed and arred over wheels as I wasn't 100% happy with the quality and how the SCS 'AXIS4.0' which came on my Specialized had aged. Once one of the rear endcaps started to unscrew (when fitting the thru axle & then on it's own) and ruining the chainline/shifting (not to mention the thru axle coming loose) it really decided things. I went quite premium, but wanted wide rims, of a known quality and of a good warranty so went with Zipp Course 30's. I also wanted a flashy wheel brand for posing with, not to mention a hub with replaceable endcaps for my SCS setup (Specialized woes). Couldn't be happier, but for £640 they are not that lightweight.

Absolutely cracking evening for riding here in Yorkshire. Managed to get 60 pretty hilly km in after work and am now seriously knackered!

Beautiful pic! *drool*

Noticed you hadn't posted anything on Strava or here, presumed you had gone on vacation... Maybe that 100-miler plus the other sportive lowered your immune system a bit. Take it steady getting back into non-commute rides, otherwise you risk having a relapse.

Possibly so, still was 11 days before my illness so wouldn't expect my immune system to be any lower then? Know the other half and little one visited his cousin who'd been ill (didn't find out until afterwards!) so currently blaming him! ;)

I'm fully expecting to pick up various colds/coughs once Harry is in nursery... Just hadn't expected it the second day of his induction (when he only stayed an hour with only 2 other kids present!). :D

He's there for 7.5 hours tomorrow before I go pick him up. Wish me luck! Anyone got a hazmat suit I can borrow?

Hope everyone had fun at RideLondon? Many ride it?

Also anyone else keeping an eye on anyone riding TCR06? One of the local club guys is riding it, as well as a guy from Zwift I'd ridden quite a lot with (who's carrying an injured knee already!)

These are currently the planned couple of days, after an initial warmup day around the lake.

But we're also thinking there is potential to sack one of them off and do Alpe d'huez

Alpe d’Huez is one of those climbs you “have” to do but the Glandon/Croix de Fer from Allemont or Galibier from Valloire are miles nicer and more scenic. Don’t be tempted by climbing the Lautaret though as the tunnels on the way up are pretty sketchy.

Also, if you’re going up you Annecy via Leschaux, I’d head up from Leschaux to Semnoz as you’re missing an amazing climb by just doing the lake loop (the path is pretty boring in parts, stunning views though). The ride back through Faverges isn’t hugely inspiring either. If you have a car, I’d drive to Doussard and do a loop of the lake via Semnoz and the Forclaz. :)

That's some awesome insight - thanks! We will probably end up with some adjusted routes based on this, as we had planned them pretty blind.
