Road Tax

 I think you've missed the point. We were talking about pre-pay that isn't pay at pump.

I'm all for pay at pump, I get really frustrated with those that don't use it.

No, i just phrased it badly.

Using cash. queue up, pre-pay, fill up.
Using cash. fill up, queue up, pay.

Pay@pump. Fill up, leave.

If you're paying at the counter you need to queue up either way, the "extra" waiting (which isn't really extra) might encourage more people to use pay@pump.

SB118, the point is that you dont know how much it will cost to fill. My tank fill will most certainly vary by as much as around £10 either way.

In order to queue a single time using pre pay i would simply have to guess (low as to not need to go in and get a refund) and not actually fill my car - which means less range which means more trips to the filling station.

Its OK if you are pootling around town, but according to roadtrip i have averaged nearly 90mi every single day over the last year (32k miles or so) :p

People actually pay for fuel with cash?

Pay@Pump every time, unless I want a paper/pack of polos. I have never payed for fuel with cash before, its going to be £50ish a tank, why would I carry that much cash around for no reason.

Please, someone who only puts in £5-20 a time tell us why you do it?

I have a fuel card so prepay or pay at pump not usually an option. Just fill up until the automatic cut off at the nozzle.

And Lashout drives around a Pontiac Firebird with a massive V8 gas guzzling engine in it. Pays £0 for road tax. :o :p

Something in the system has gone **** up I think. :D

Agreed.

We should all pay the same flat rate or we should have a pay as you go system... Heck increase the price of fuel to cover road tax.

I find it unfair that someone can go out and buy a hybrid. Drive thousands of miles more than I would in my average car yet pay little or no road tax. Despite the fact the hybrid driver would be polluting the environment more than me.

You're probably right, but if you look at the total related tax (VED and VAT/duty on fuel) bill of the two drivers you'll see that this isnt such a big issue. :)

You referring to the difference in mileage of both drivers?

Even our vectras only take less than £80 to fill from empty
