Road Tripping in the USA!

Id go a bit later, Nevada was just too hot, especially if you want a convertible (which is pretty much essential I think for the experience!).

Im already planning next year, its my 40th, im considering taking a month to 6 weeks and doing the big one, coast to coast, I was going to climb Kilamanjaro but after having been in nevada and tonopah at 6500 feet, my asthma was pretty bad at that height so theres no way Im climbing a mountain!

Booked up this week - 29th September, into New York. 2.5 weeks later I fly back from Miami, and there will be no internal flights :D

Fox,

Seriously now considering a Cali road trip for our honeymoon, as you told me to months ago...

We're looking to go in November, something like San Fran (Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Ride a tram etc) -> Yosemeti National Park -> Death Valley -> Hoover Dam + Grand Canyon -> San Diego (Zoo and Somewhere near there for a Beach) -> Pacific Coast Highway to San Fran....

What do you think the weather will be like for that sort of route?

A huge pain - Tioga Pass, the main route from Yosemite to Death Valley - will be closed.

Also start/finish from LA as the flights are cheaper.

Its not so bad miles wise, I did 2100 on my trip in 10 days, are you planning on going west a little before heading back?

What car you going for this time?

Missed this!

Going to hire something 'Luxury' as she's decided we'll be murdered to death in a Cabrio in Miami, or something.

Great advice, Thanks for that...

Do you know of a decent alternative?

Also do it the other way round so you drive down the Pacific Coast Highway, for no reason other than its way more convenient for random pulling off for sightseeing. Which you'll do a lot of.

Thread bump I know... but I just wanted to say this is a great write up and is tempting me to finish off PCH before the sun disappears for the year! I went from SF to Half Moon Bay one afternoon and it was amazing, I can only imagine the rest of it is much better!

I'm definitely going to steal some of the advice and ideas of places to visit from here.

Nice pics and great route mate. Lived in LA (Redondo Beach) for a year back in 2003 and did the same trip albeit in chunks except Yosemite :(

PCH drive from LA to San Fran. EPIC!

You missed the Welcome to Fab LV cos you it's not actually on the main route into Vegas :( It's on the ways to Fry's Electronics though cos we WALKED it on the hottest day of the flippin' year! Yikes, swollen extremities and heat stroke a-plenty!!
