Roadkill...

ive never ever understood why people would be silly enough to slam on the brakes/swerve for small animals on the road. Maybe its cos i grew up in the country and couldnt really care less about rabbits/voles/pheasants or whatever.

I've managed to "straddle" little animals sitting there i.e. getting them in the middle of my car so that no wheels hit them, but I've never hit anything yet, touch wood. If I'm going at a relatively low speed limit, i.e. under about 50, in residential areas say, I'll slow down for things if it's safe. I've had to stop and wait for a row of pidgeons on my road before, and the bloody stubborn cats that sit across my driveway! Lol

I knew a lad once who in his MR2 was doing 80+ down a country lane for him to have a deer jump out in front of him....car was a write off and deer had to be put down....was still alive with its guts all over the bonnet and inside the car

His missus in the passenger seat wasn't too happy....she got covered in said guts

lol

I've hit rabbits lots....tend to speed up when I see one and see how many thuds I get as it bounces beneath my car...8 is highest so far :D

Pidgeons seem to have a vendatta against me. One flew straight into my windscreen when I was doing 70 and it chipped it, surprised it didn't shatter!

In the Astra one went straight into the front grills....had to get someone to clean that. And on the way back from the RR8 one clipped my wing mirror.

There was a better one some time ago, where the deer was hit mid flight and emptied it's innards inside the car (via the windshield). The cream leather was read except for some people shaped areas!

I have seen that one, and didnt think it was really suitable to be posted here, the one i posted earlier if probably borderline, but i am sure i have seen it on here before.

Personally, hit a few bunnies and frog and things. Managed to nail a crow on the motorway at 70 (ish :p) which cracked a headlight, and made a mess!

I did manage to avoid hitting a dog once, it ran out infront of me on an NSL bit of road (a4 between Newbury and Reading), it was an alsation, and it FLEW out of an open gate, across the opposite lane and into mine, I knew there was nothing behind me, and the road ahead was clear in both directions, so i nailed the brakes and steered towards the centre of the road. I literally skimmed it's bum and pulled over in a layby a little further up.

The dog came bounding up to me like i was his best mate, and i grabbed him by the collar and walked him across te road back into the gate and closed it! Then the owner of the farm pulled up and shouted at me for closing his gate... I explained and he said thanks and that it wouldnt happen again.

Probably not, last time I looked at the link the pics were dead anyway. Plus it was on an american gun forum! :p

I had to come to a stop for a dog once, I kept on slowing down expecting it to change it's direction or stop or something - but I kept slowing until I stopped and it still came bounding into my passenger wheel, yelped and then legged it in the direction it came from!
Sadly though, the nurse behind me didn't see any of this and her front bumper got demolished by my tow bar. :p

In the Focus I wasn't really too fussed about what I hit, but since getting my handbag mobil, I try to avoid hitting them if I can. I have a feeling they'll do more damage to my '2 than I will to them!

I hit it a dog once. Come round a bend in a 30's and this black lab come screaming across the road right in front of me, slammed on the anchors and gave it a thump although it couldn't have been to hard because it didn't stop running. At this point I get out the car to see where its going, its only then I see it tearing off down the path and past its owner and beyond. The daft female with the dog was at least twenty metres away from the road and had left the dog on the other side of the road, to this day she has no idea her poor dog was even hit.

Going up a hill behind my friends mini, I see a little bunny wabbit do a 720 off his back left wheel :/

I've also seen some sort of bird jump out into the road then immediatly jump back into the bush, my friend shouted out "aghhh BEAR!!".

Lots of small, country, 1 way roads he blasts around ;)

I remember as a kid my mother stopping the car, getting out and picking a rather bemused rabbit up from the middle of her lane and dropping it in the grass at the side of the road as it just wouldn't move. The stupid little so and so decided to run under the car as we pulled away, you can guess the rest :)

Personally i've got to be in triple figures for bunny's in the Rav over the last few summers, it was rare not to take out at least one on the way home from work each night but in the go kart i'm not looking forward to hitting them as it's so low, especially having seen what they've done to a normal Smart car in that pic.

Funny this thread popped up as a rabbit ran across the road in front of me as I was driving into work this morning at 4am. I just braked (road deserted) and the little fellow got away alive.

Is it wrong that i cracked up when i clicked on the bmw meets deer link? :D I mean how the hell did it fit through the grill!

Anyways, a ferrett ran out infront of me when i was off out the other night.

My sister did the best I know of when she hit a muntjack deer in her focus...

New bumper, pipes for aircon and pipes for radiator.

The muppet went under the car and ripped loads of pipes that sit behind the bumper somewhere (don't ask me as it's her car). Her husband was a bit 'surprised' for a few minutes, but sis was in the mood for venison except she had no way of getting the deer home...yeah, she is one sick woman

Fluffy

Avoided a bunny the other day, though hey its ok he went between the wheels....

que looking under the car later to see flopsy had been dragged by the head, all the way home :|
