Robbed

They must have brought a battering ram to get through a door like that? We have a flat in bristol which has had repeated attempted burglaries prevented by UPVC doors.

Ten seconds with a pair of molegrips and a screwdriver will get you through most UPVC doors.

Has the door got a side panel attached to the lock side? Door enterance? Externally glazed? Just asking as Im in the UPVC Door industry.

The lock barrell itself I would imagine

Keep an eye on Ebay, narrowing the search to your local postcode.

You never know, They may be stupid enough to list everything they took in 1 sitting.

I'm not joking either, The university i worked for had 20 dell wireless adapters stolen from the Server room. And we did a search and found, 15 dell wireless adapters up on ebay for sale within travelling distance from the uni. To take it one further, The username of the seller matched a student we had in the building, as it was first name and surname. And then to take it even further. we purchased one to check the serial number, and it matched our suppliers delivery log for what they had sent us.

The police were contacted with the new information, and he was arrested, and we got back our adapters. Not all of them, Some had already been sold on. But it was a win win for us in the end.

We felt like detectives :D

* Man Hugs for the OP *

Even though your monetary losses can be recuperated it's still a very sad sight to come home to. Knowing that somebody has invaded the privacy of your home must be absolutely terrifying.

Hopefully it won't totally ruin Christmas for you and in one way it'll bring your family closer together. Hopefully you can go out and get some more gifts in the few days you have left before Christmas and even though the presents are one of the main things about the day, you can still all sit around the dinner table on Christmas day and just be thankful that you still have each other and that nobody was present or harmed during the break in.

Merry Christmas. :)

I hope you can make the most of the time with your family.

It takes a really special kind of scum to steal Christmas presents. Anyone who robs this time of year must know they're ruining Christmas.

That wouldn't even come into their mind. They are only out to feed their habits and addictions.

They say they will, and you will almost certainly never see them at your house. They just give you a number that sends you round in the usual circles.

I've thankfully never had to use their services, but a few friends and family have - ranging from house robbery to car theft, and to be honest they have been fantastic. Did a full CSI job on my Mums car once when it got stolen! Guess it depends where you live...

Indeed, I live in Liverpool where this kind of thing must be only too common, and CSI attended for an attempted burglary (screwdriver in a UPVC window, which failed to budge). The investigator fully fingerprinted the window, came and had a look around for other places they might have tried to gain entry through, and advised on how to make the house more secure.

Can't fault them at all :)

Glad to hear a couple of success stories then :) I'm in Sale (South Manchester area) and as an avid Downhill MTB rider myself and plenty of friends have had quite expensive items stolen in the past (£5k insurance claims). Unfortunately no-one lifted a finger to help. Gave us a crime number for our insurance and sent us on our merry way!

Forensics have been round today and done their "CSI" thing, not very hopeful of anything come back from it but you never know!

I've already been searching eBay etc for the Wii/WiiF it in particular, if anyone comes across a Wii (Black) and a Wii Fit (Original, NOT Fit Plus) on the internets for sale please pop a link in here, although its not exactly a rare combination!

Lots of extra security measure taken today, hiding of keys/key boxes, tiner lights etc and also purchased a Yale house alarm each, along with PIR security lights for front and back of houses.

Certainly won't stop it, but it will help slow down any future attempts!

is always a horrible feeling, my advice would be get a dog. After I brought my staffy we got broken into and he was sleeping on the landing the scum bags didn't get past the kitchen. Whats weird is my staffys a big softy but I guess its enough to put scum off. + a dog will brighten up any household

we have a few out buildings with a lot of stuff in, and have 3 rottys before now the dogs have started going mad in the middle of the night had a look out the window and saw someone running away from the drive, just the barking was enuf to put them off the idea of robbing us.

Sorry to hear mate.

Everyone needs to be extra careful during the Christmas period as the ***** are always on look out for free Christmas presents to give away.

Sorry to hear about this. Xmas is always a popular time for the criminal types, but there does seem to be plenty of it about this year.

Hope it doesn't put too much of a dent in your Christmas.

Horrible isn't it :(

Got into ours through some old steel dining room doors. My dad forgot to apply the deadlocks at teh top and bottom the weekend before as they were too stiff after he undid them. Pulled the damns things right open.

The hassle afterwards was the worst, but about 2 weeks later they raided some places and arrested those involved in a series of burglaries. Of course the PS2 and all the games that came back (23) were returned to the insurance company that had already paid out :D
