Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic The Wheel of Time coming to TV

Yeah I can well believe its a decent watch if you haven't read the books. I'm enjoying it. But some of the plot choices undermine your preconceieved ideas for those that have read the books and I guess my worry is that bad choices now undermine the story more fundementally later.

Yes this is what I think. As long as they manage to square away the odd choices they've made I'm ok with it (would prefer a more true adaption though). If I want to experience the story as the author intended I'll just re-read the books, again.

yes, but 6 episodes had been completed before the 1st shutdown...

I read that as 6/8 had finished filming, but there's a lot of non filming post production work that needs to happen as well that was presumably heavily impacted by these shutdowns. My hope, possibly false, is that these shutdowns contributed to stuff like the sets and costumes that for me aren't quite believable.

I don't think the covid shutdowns would have had any impact on how bad the costumes are.. 10 million dollars per episode...
It's bad, more like xena or Hercules than return of the king.

Legend of the seeker has a similar feel to it, but at least that had attractive actresses to distract you.
That's a bit harsh..... Xena & Hercules had a certain cheesy charm at least!

That's insulting to Xena and Hercules

Thats very true, both Xena and Hercules were actually good, I was more referencing the style of cinematography, costumes, sets etc, comparing them to Wheel of time does them both a massive disservice!

Yikes Xena and Hercules good ? Nope wheel time is for TV is just fine. Looking forward to how the band starts I hope they lose the moody Matt sooner rather than later as well

But then I was one who thought the books were very very overated.

Really? I am just going through the books again after 20+ years and forgotten just how good they were. Onto to book three already, can't stop, already totally hooked again. Its only later books that become a bit of a "chore".

It wasn't until Path of Daggers that the books really started to slow down. 8-11 really should have been condensed into 1, maybe 2 at a push. I'm not sure if the whole Mazrim Taim thing messed with Jordan's flow or not but they are really hard going.

Yeah different strokes for different folks, I would sooner they did the Rift Saga, Magician would make a such a good movie let Villeneuve make it please.

The post-production (VFX & grading) of this show was all done during covid. I can tell you from first-hand experience, far more is impacted than just the shoots. The VFX work for WoT has been done by all the b-grade VFX studios. The entire VFX industry is suffering at the moment, there is too much work and not enough artistic talent. Disney/Marvel and other major studios have so many shows in the pipeline that there is little capacity left for anything else.

Now you are talking, Magician is my favourite all-time stand-alone fantasy book. Raymond dragged the series out waaaaay past its sell-by date with however many books there are now. The first few were good as were the Empire series. But at a certain point it got quite daft. We just want Pug stories.

Haha, yes he certainly milked the Riftwar saga, I end up reading the first book every few years, its so ingrained in my imagination that it would be highly unlikely a Movie/TV series would be anywhere good enough :) :)
