Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic The Wheel of Time coming to TV

Yup book 2 is also excellent but the TV series has already changed a ton.
The Hunt for the Horn, book 2, was one of the best in the series. Selene had a far better introduction and the book had a focus, whereas Series 2 of WOT has none of that for Rand. So far.

I think this show is going to get cancelled, it's that bad.

Without releasing the first 3 episodes of season 2 upfront it would have definitely died on its feet - if I was waiting weekly after episode 1 I wouldn't even go back to it - it does start to get going in the closing part of episode 3 but it really needs to evolve rapidly from there.

I can't see it not being cancelled if it is like this all season.

EDIT: Looks like all remaining episodes are streaming on the 8th - unless it changes a lot dripping them out weekly would not have done this show any favours either.

The Hunt for The Horn has a good largely linear story that builds on the introduction of the characters well, but much like season 1 season 2 plainly knows better than Robert Jordan in how to tell his story.

From what I hear it's getting decent viewership mainly from people who never read the books. Personally I think the story (of the TV show) makes even less sense if you haven't read the books.

So it may get more seasons and he can turn into what ever he wants.

I've never heard the books but have them on the shelf. Watched episode 1 last night and it "looks" good but not got a clue what is going on as I only vaguely recall watching S1!

Oh cmon the books went oooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn and onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn it could have been all over in 4 or 5.

Still liking the TV show.

I think the majority of the book readers would agree with that. But I think most of us would also agree the central thread and plot is pretty damn good. You could probably lose 40% of the books and 90% of anything in the middle with Elayne and Nynaeve and 50% with just the Aes Seadi and you'd might end up with what we wanted instead of what we got. But the first 3 book are solid, the next 3 a touch chubby but solid story and the most of the last 8 bloated.

yeah he really started to waffle around 7, the theory was that he didn't know what to do after people 'figured out' some plot points like Taim etc

Couldn't agree more. Ironically I felt the Sanderson books are too rushed. But I can appreciate he was trying to put an octopus in a string bag.

These kind of fantasy shows, even if not that great to an extent, can be good escapism.

One of my memories of the book series is the amount of description put into whatever dress so and so was wearing at any given moment in time . I did enjoy it, but it was very long winded at times.
