Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic The Wheel of Time coming to TV

I was pretty into the first season, didn't seem too bad.
Always figured it was going to struggle with pacing.

Parts of S2 are great, but I am now struggling with the changes.

They seem to have shuffled and jumbled so much now I am thinking constantly why did you move that to that person etc
I mean maybe it will make sense come the end assuming it survives that long.

Will have to fall back to my default position, any fantasy is better than no fantasy, but this is tweaking me hard that with so much change i may have been happier with
A fantasy epic based on and set in the world of Robert Jordans wheel of time.

I don't think I agree with the comments in regards favouring the females, would be intersting if screen time backed this up, but it feels almost like its we need to share the good bits out or something.
Apart from Matt of course but then maybe part of the lower profile is based on the actor changing?

Anyway pizza almost ready time for the next :)
The stats suggests Moraine gets the most screen time and no of words then Rand 2nd. I can't say that was the impression I got from watching. The comments online are a bit baffled by the stats.

If you'd asked me before show aired who will get the most time and words I would have said Rand by a huge margin.

14 books in the series, for a total of 4.4m words. The audiobook series runs for roughly 18 days and 18 hours (without New Spring). It needs to be condensed into eight seasons of roughly 8 hours in length. In spite of this, people seem surprised that the story has had to undergo significant rewrites

Personally, I didn't think much of the first season. I was fighting against the book changes. And even in spite of those, the show had huge issues. But the second season is just so much better. S2E5 is comfortably the best episode yet for me. It moves a bunch of plot lines forward, and moves everyone a bit closer to where they are meant to be (except Mat, who continues to be strangely absent in the TV series).

Yeah thats a false equivalence. People aren't complaining that it's been condensed or changed. It's how it's was changed.

I think S2 is better because they've had to condense to the point they are only able to focus on the main points in the books not spend time doing whatever S1 was.

I prefer watching the critique of the series on YouTube by the Knights Watch channel compared to this TV series.

You realise just how wrong and lopsided the show is and how it is treating the male characters so badly. Rand, Mat and Perrin.
We never read the books, so have nothing to compare against, we just found that we don't really give a monkey's about what is going on, haha.

I’m really disliking how they’ve written Lan and Moiraine, I see almost nothing of the characters I know in the series. About half the show feels like a decent pared down version of the book and the other half feels like a complete mess.

I think if people accept it as an adaptation of the books rather than following the books point for point, it makes the show far easier top enjoy imo. The Egwene storyline is very well done. Can't wait to see next weeks episode as it should include the Damane showdown and the declaration of the dragon! Not sure about the Rand storyline in the latest episode, but it gets a pass due to everyone moving in the right direction and more Lanfear screen time (hot damn I am definitely on team evil if she keeps wearing that black outfit) :D The Aviendha, Bain and Chiad storyline is also working well. I have no idea what is happening with the Mat storyline, i don't mind him ending up where he did due to Ishamael, but the whole tea storyline better now be in place of the realms of the Fin!!!

Yeah I thought this too, hopefully not but I imagine the Finn scenes would be quite tricky/expensive to film.

They've said the second season is a mix of books 2 and 3, but I hope they still include the Tear storyline before heading off East for Rand to proclaim himself again. The middle of TDR through to the end of LoC is by far my favourite part of the books and I hope we get to see large chunks of it on screen... but I imagine large parts to be cut.

It would be nice to see a lot of the central characters to re-find their book plots and come together in Tear.

Callandor is in Tear, that's a rather major plot point. No way can they skip it!

I've got episodes 6 and 7 to watch but the snooker is occupying all my time at the moment. Then my Prime runs out next week just before episode 8 (and presumably the final one) releases.

Really getting into this series. Tempted to read the books now. Anyone who has read it, is it worth getting all 14 books of the series? Is it a worthwhile read?

100%, gets a bit bogged down around 7 onwards but the last three pick up the pace again- main complaint is Jordan's writing style. I would suggest getting the 1st and seeing if it grates.
