Robert Jordan’s fantasy epic The Wheel of Time coming to TV

I think I've seen that one ;)

honestly if they go there with this TV series and end up with a female Dragon reborn who has 3 female love interests, I don't think I will be able to watch anymore.

I wouldnt put it past them to do that as a rewrite though in this modern day.

I’m surprised they’re saying it’s dated, the female characters in the book are every bit as pivotal as the male. You think of the arcs of Elaine, Egwene and Nynaeve and they are not secondary, whole arcs of books are devoted to their journeys.

I get that they’re doing a bait and switch for those who have never read the books it doesn’t worry me. I worry more that the different peoples might be a bland melange as opposed to the highly distinct cultures Jordan create.

The modern sensibilities demand that homage is paid to The Message even if it’s unnecessary so I guess the show runner spout platitudes lest they be denounced as apostates.

They're also by far the worst parts of the books.

@Lord-Jaffa I agree entirely but we can't say the man didn't attempt to balance the sexes of his major protagonists;)
Fair point, as excited as I am to see one of my favourite book series turned into a tv show, I might have to turn it off if I see a braid being tugged!

I read somewhere else that Matt and Perrin both have kids as well now in this, I mean just wtf if that's true.

That famously woke status of being married. When will it end!
What's the point though? It changes core elements of both characters. Are they just going to kill off the wife and the kids in the trolloc attack? Otherwise why would they both leave with Moiraine? It's just nonsense.

Although the Perrin and Faile arc could do with gutting from the series as it probably the worst storyline.

I got quite attached to the Perrin and Faile arc and how Perrin's character developed. Same with all the characters pulled from the village. They all went their separate ways and ended up all being pivotal to the story.

Well, we dont really know the point do we. Raging at something that really doesnt matter as being woke is just the latest fad of the safe space generation.

We'll have to disagree then, you don't think changing core elements of characters matters, I do.

if I had to bet at this moment in time that I'm wrong in my assumption that the show will be a dull incoherent mess I would. I really hope I'm wrong as I've been looking forward to a TV show about this series for 2 decades.

Could go either way, could ruin it, could be fine. Either way its nothing to do with the woke obsession. :)

You and I understand that but... :P

If they've given Perrin a wife and kill her off immediately as suggested above then actually it'll probably be a good way to show the audience why he is he way he is (introspective, brooding, thoughtful etc).

The Redband was the only sections in about 8 books I looked forward too, by reading this thread it appears its going to be the case in the series as well :)

Regardless, I think we can all agree the best thing to do is get really upset that they've changed a thing or two, and have a big moan before anyone has seen the first episode.
