*** Rocket League *** Car Football

I'm up for playing some games with some real people :D hop on the OcUK Discord and we can jump in a voice channel. I know @Mynight and a few others play this on the regular. I'm not sure if i'd team up with him though, if he plays this like he plays PuBG....... ;) :D

30+million copies sold, 100k plus in prize money for tournaments...have you not seen how popular RL has become?
It's an awesome game, i'm hooked!

The controls are awful, you would have to put in hours every day to get any good at this.

The problem is the more you play it the the higher your level gets regardless of how good you are, eventually you'll be up again players doing impossible aerial shots while I can barely hit the ball in the direction I want from the ground.

What part of that is fun?

Your "level" is completely irrelevant to who you play against. Casual matchmaking is purely random. Competitive ranks are not at all related to level and are what places you against opponents. The levels only really show how long you've played, nothing to do with skill level.

I'm not so sure matchmaking works like that, since I hit veteran (a few weeks ago) I rarely get a sniff of the ball, nearly all players doing aerial shots I cant even dream about, talking non comp here, I gave up on comp after getting beat in about 10 games in a row both times I tried it.

That said when you do find a good even game its still loads of fun, been playing a bit more rumble lately trying to get the freeze shot achi, never get the freeze power up tho ofc XD.

Nope, you were always matched with players of a similar rank, these were some exceptions but as the level increased the opponents were generally ranked around the same.

How long you've played is relative to skill for most players, not all obviously because I sucked regardless, but generally the longer they've played for the better they are.

The game was clearly a lot of fun when I started as everyone sucked, after a week or so of playing quite a lot it got frustrating and the players more and more hostile, that's another thing actually. The attitude even in casual games in RL from many players was disgusting.

Matchmaking matches on mmr, nothing else.

Even unranked has an mmr it matches on. Unranked seems random because unliked ranked, the mmr is shared across all the unranked modes and well, a lot of people don't play it that often, so even good players have low mmr there.

At the risk of sounding an idiot... mmr?

I get that 'level' (ie title) has no impact on it - I hide mine to avoid toxic attitudes towards hours played etc but thought it was pretty much always down to ranking?
Match Making Rank (afaik). Basically a weighting applied to you, they have relevance to rank but not casual rank so gold 1,2,3 silver ect matter, rocketeer, veteran dont matter. The latter is just a rank based on playtime the former a rank based on skill (or luck).

No idea the actual stats but for example take solos one player has a MMR of 700 (gold 3) verses a player with MMR 715 (gold 3 almost plat) the game would expect the player with 715 to win the match as such if they lose they lose MMR points. If they win as they were expected to they wouldn't gain as many points. The player thats expected to lose would gain more points than the higher player points for winning but wouldn't really lose many for losing to a higher MMR.

Player 1 expected to lose;
win
700 - 715
lose
700 - 699

Player 2 expected to win;
win
715 - 716
lose
715 - 700
(number are made up as I don't know the real figures)
Hope that makes sense.

you can remap the controls, they are simple? one button forwards, another backwards. handbrake, jump, boost.

Deceptively simple when you look at it like that but we both know it's not, keyboard and mouse users are also at a disadvantage when it comes to aerial mechanics of the game.

Trying to pull off some of the advanced training on keyboard for me was impossible.

I stuck to waiting for the bounce etc and perfecting that (would often lose out to more confident aerial people at that time) and then moved on to aerials and can now make shots/hits I could never hit before :D

Do struggle with knowing where my team mates are though often hoping they're in the right place when I cross it, beyond ball cam on/off I find it too difficult to look around me whilst doing other stuff. Ball cam on/off is generally enough to know roughly where people are though.

Actually you could argue that KB users can actually do more as there are more keys to bind to controls. I think KB has Q and E binded as Air Roll L and R by default, whereas controller only has Air Roll on X by default.

One of the OCE pros Torsos used a KB/M at the last RLCS a couple of weeks ago.

EDIT: for the record I use a controller as I couldn't get on with KB/M
