Anyone play the older version ? Is it any good ?

Loved Guitar Hero, but hated the fact that it wasn't a real guitar.

I have owned 2 electric guitars and sold them both over the years due to not being able to progress and giving up.

Looking to see if RockSmith 2014 will help me see my dreams of being semi competent at the electric guitar.

Thoughts ?

I've got the first one for PC and have just hit the 200 hour mark. Really enjoyed it and the fact that you can make your own customs for it makes it even better. I'll be getting the 2014 edition as its got quite a few songs that I'd like and it also has a lot of improvements over the first one. That said a friend of mine bought it at the same time as me and hasn't spent a hour on it yet so it really depends whether you'll spend a bit of time getting used to it or get on it and expect to be good from the start.

Do you feel it's helped your guitar playing at all? Obviously you'd get better with 200 hours practise, but has the game helped at all?

I really enjoy it, but i think rock prodigy is better as a learning tool, with rocksmith it ups the levels as you are playing and being a noobie (i'd played for circa 6 months at school when i was 10ish, now 40) i get confussed where as rp you can slow it down but its the same tabs.

Well just won the previous xbox version and a nice guitar, spare strings and stand for £100 delivered on the bay :)

Guitar is an original Fender Starcaster if that means anything to anyone.

Not sure if I am allowed to post this link (closed auction and not competetive), mods feel free to correct me.

Will upgrade to the 2014 version should I like it, otherwise it goes back on the bay :)

Fingers crossed, should be with me tomorrow :)

excellent, only one thing i would make sure and that is you connect xbox optically to an amp, lag through hdmi is a pain :)

it's more of a game than a learning aid I'd say....you'll learn more how to play the game rather than how to play the guitar, you'll learn some songs but will have no real idea what you're doing
the way the single notes are shown on a replica fretboard on the screen is totally different to reading tab, if it showed the note names it would be more useful for learning
the chords are a bit different because it comes up with the names, so will help with learning chords and sight reading
it'll help dexterity, get your fingers used to moving about the fretboard

I used to play guitar but had about a 4 year gap rocksmith has helped me get back into it. It might not be the most efficient way of learning guitar but it has defiantly kept me more motivated to play. If you start creating your own customs you'll get the hang of tabs and guitar pro its easy enough. Just to clarify as well 200 hours on a game for me is a lot its easily my most played game.

In Rocksmith you can use riff repeater to get all the notes of a song then set it to any speed you want if you prefer leaning that way but I don't mind the dynamic difficulty it does help you learn the songs.

Thanks all, really hoping this keeps me motivated as a complete beginner who failed twice over the years. Should arrive today ;)

There are Xbox versions, but I think you might need a JTAG box to use those.

Forgot this was the console section! :D

Didn't even think of that sorry. Been off xbox for a few years now but I remember having custom rockband songs without having to jtag so it might work its defiantly worth a try.
