Rocksmith 2014

Spotted this being mentioned on the Charlie Brooker prog last night on C4. Never heard about it before and I'm intrigued. Currently hovering over buy on Amazon for £27 (PC). Got my electric guitar that I bought better part of 20 years ago ( :( ) at 17 gathering dust in the hall and would be great to get it out and actually try to use it again. :)

Thinking of getting my name change request to Mark Knopflerr on the go :D

Did you mean to order the 2012 edition? As that is the one which is £27.03 on Amazon...

I think I read that the new 2014 edition is much much better, but it does cost around £44.

I picked up the PS3 version of 2014 in the Amazon lightning sales (£29.99 incl real tone cable :)).

I got my guitar must be almost 15 years ago, did a handful of lessons then gave up, been meaning to try learning again for a while and glad that I got Rocksmith.

So far I'm probably a bit ahead of where I ever got with lessons (got the game on Friday, been doing a good few hours each day since then, fingers quite sore :p), still quite crap but definite improvement.

The dynamic difficulty does get me a few times, I was just playing the Arctic Monkeys track (for about the 7th or 8th time) and one section changed with only a tiny bit of notice, I was left completely baffled and had to just stop playing until I the next bit started and I could get my head around it.

Also liking the Guitarcade, quite good for practicing bits of technique. For me I suck badly at Chords, can just about make them if given time but not quickly, and moving from one to another, or up/down the frets, takes forever, the chords game I think is helping :p

Yep I did see it was the older version and mulled over the new one but knowing what I'm like I thought I'd see if I actually use it for more than 5 mins before blowing more money on the later version.

Is the Radiohead song pack available yet?

The game keeps telling me it is but I can't find it in game or on the Playstation Store.

Radiohead pack is now available on the UK PS Store. I bought it last night and the songs seem easy enough for someone of my limited talent.

I've got a slight annoyance in that I've not been able to log into UPlay in game for a few days but I can log in okay through a browser. Is it down in game for everybody?

Yeah, mine is failing to log into uplay as well recently, although not sure I care except having to press O everytime :p

heh, does take a while, last weekend as I was playing it on and off throughout the afternoon/evening I ended up leaving it on all the time as it was easier than starting the ps3 and then the game every time

Sorry to dig this up, I just bought this for the Xbox 360, but I've read there is an "unplayable" lag if using the HDMI cable, is that right?

How have you guys tackled this problem and what cable do I need instead?

Not sure about the 360 but I'm on the PS3, HDMI to AV receiver then TV and no noticeable lag...

I believe the reccomended option is anything other than HDMI for the audio, been a while since I had a 360 but doesn't it have an optical out?

My 360 is one of the first ones, no optical out !

I think I am going to have to go old school and use the VGA lead that the Xbox came in with....:/

If its old skool like mine optical out is on the grey plug that has the 6 (component/composite) connectors for tv, but i didn't think they suffered lag.

Optical out is on the blocky bit that connects to the xbox for the component cables. If yours doesn't have one, you can pick one up.

I think it depends on the TV, as some people have no problems via HDMI. On my old TV the original Rocksmith was fine, but with my new one I had to connect the box to my amp via optical otherwise the lag made it unplayable, even with all the TV's various processing bits turned off.

I've got the original VGA cable, have now broken the plug to free up the space for the HDMI cable so I can use both optical and HDMI.

I had sound coming through the HDMI, so will the sound now just come through optical instead if I use that? Or is using the Stereo lead recommended?

and do I have to use HDMI to the TV or can I put everything through the amp still ?

You can put everything through the amp, I believe. Just make sure you go to the sound settings on the Xbox and set it to 5.1 Digital audio. That should swap it to the optical (I think -- hopefully it's smart enough to know that you've got an optical channel attached! Just make sure you have your amp set to the optical channel too).

Thanks, I shall try both when it arrive.

I am quite excitied to learn the guitar ! I wish they make one for the Piano too now.
