*** Rogue One: A Star Wars Story *** (NOW WITH SPOILERS)

I saw this a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't really like it, and I am a big Star Wars fan.

Just felt off the whole way through, and it was nothing to do with subject matter or how it ended, just felt thrown together.

That is no doubt down to the extensive last minute reshoots. I felt some sequences seemed out of place. Still a very good film though.

I think the intention of 12A is that kids a few years under that age may go with a parent, not it's in any way suitable for kids half that age.

Did they leave because they were scared or just bored? Frankly I suspect the latter as I wouldn't expect a 5-6 year old to have the faintest idea what's going on and likely to get bored to the point of fidgeting and making noise, at which point I'd be telling the parent to take them and **** off.
it's to give the choice of judgement to the parent (12a). My 6 year old was fine in terms of how 'strong' the content was. A family near us left after 20 minutes or so because the girl of similar age was too scared.

He actually found TFA a bit more scary (kylo ren), that's also a 12a of course, but I think he enjoyed that one more as it was easier to follow.

Saw it just before Christmas. Thought it was pretty average at best tbh...

I was genuinely bored up until the start of the third act. I'm sure it's been stated many times already, but the central characters are so incredibly underdeveloped and dull.

Despite that, I thought the last 10 minutes where great. Nowhere near as shocking or well orchestrated as some people seemed to think it was. It could have only ever ended with all of them being killed

By no means did I hate it, but I certainly expected more. I preferred FA in every respect. Star Wars is at it's best when it's dumb and full of cool space wizards fencing with each other. Will absolutely concede however that it's one of the best looking blockbusters I've ever seen.

Genuinely gasped when the star destroyers collided

Same. I expected more tbh. My son loved it though which is all that matters. Like the force awakens I doubt I will have much desire to re-watch.

Thought the music was poor, Vader didn't sound right to me. Like a James Earl Jones impersonator. I like the main male lead, couldn't care less about Jinn. CGI didn't bother me at all like it has some, I thought it was pretty good. Blended nicely into New Hope but it's not like that takes a massive bit of writing genius.

7/10.

Went to see it today with my brother (his second viewing, my first) and I thought it was really dull until they went for the plans. For the majority of the film I could have been watching anything, it just didn't have the star wars vibe, I think the music was a lot to do with that though, and the characters lacking... well, character. I did enjoy the battle scenes though. Personally I felt with the lack of character development they could have really just started the film at the point of the alliance meeting, and them going to get the plans, extended the battle sequences and it would lose nothing and be a damn site more entertaining. As it was it's a 6/10 for me.

Thought it was pretty good, definitely one of the better ones. However, I can't explain it, but found the film a little 'muted' for lack of a better word.
Also the music was sometimes playing over parts I thought were unnecessary.

Definitely enjoyed seeing Peter Cushing again even if it was just CGI, and the Darth Vader scene at the end was the best part of the film. Leia looked a little weird.
Forest Whitaker needed more screen-time and a fight or two. Seemed a bit naff him just dying like that.

Stream of consciousness over. :)

They had to make it 'muted' somehow to communicate the feeling of the rebellion being very much near collapse. The result is meh, however.

Just came back from seeing it in IMAX. Really enjoyed the whole movie. It was pretty obvious to me that non of the main character would survive, having not heard/seen them in the sequels. So as much as it can suck having all of the main characters die, I also thought it was necessary. It also makes a surprisingly nice change.

It pretty much bridges the gap between episode 3 and episode 4 well enough in my opinion.

Although, I thought something else would going to happen to that crystal that Jyn had around her neck the whole movie. They seemed to have brought it up in such as way to signify its importance (Light sabers, Deathstar), then nothing else came about it. I thought maybe she was going to give it to someone or similar.

I don't think the film tries to bridge that gap at all. That's a huge gap from the end of sith to New Hope. I think that's what they have started to do with Rebels but I think there's a whole heap of stories to come to fill in that time period :)

The heavy gunner bothered me on reflection, why does no one else use the same gun as him. Takes down 10 storm troopers in about half a second :D ;)

Just back from it. Saw it in 2D for only £6 at a quirky cinema in Worthing. Not the greatest of seats (right at back and off centre) but was fine for most part.

As for film, I didn't think it was that great. Good, for sure, but nothing memorable. Probably slightly weaker than Force Awakens really, which I also didn't think was that great either. Kinda was a 7/10 from me.

Nothing will ever come close to A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back. But nice try. Fun stuff. Donnie Yen and Wen Jiang were the best thing about it I thought.

I just feel sorry for the storm troopers. It was a massacre from start to finish. There were dumber in this than even the ones from the original!
