*** Rogue One: A Star Wars Story *** (NOW WITH SPOILERS)

Saw it today and I am disappointed. I can't say I felt any attachment to the characters whatsoever and it felt like a turn your brain off action flick rather than a Star Wars film.

Slightly trumped by Episode 2 for worst film in the franchise.

Fantastic movie, head and shoulders above Force Awakens. Excellent lead into A New Hope. Some subtle and less subtle references (I particularly liked the Hope theme throughout).

Fantastic ending sequence for obvious reasons.

For those ragging on the digidoubles, I work at a world class VFX studio and you have no idea the achievement it was for Tarkin and Leia. Not quite perfect (yet) but my god what an achievement of technology (I am glad it wasnt my renderfarm!). I took my 7 year old son and he didn't notice at all.

My one and only complaint, Vaders thick neck.

Surely it all has to be pretty much the same as what was in A New Hope... as it runs from one into the next film? That's kind of the point?
It is the point of the film yes. I meant that I'd rather they took to style of this film and applied it to something within the Star Wars universe that sat outside and away from the existing stories we are already VERY familiar with.
Really? Phantom Menace was horrific. For me 2 and 3 were actually quite good.

It's debatable which out of 1 and 2 is worse - 2 is so linear and features a frankly depressing overuse of CGI.

Finally got round to seeing this last night, with some trepidation having endured the three prequels and the not quite as bad of those TFA. Came out thinking it was the best (Star Wars) film since Empire, having really enjoyed it - yep, better than ROTJ. It took a small part of the Star Wars story and joined the dots. Everything felt familiar (visuals, characters, score) yet new and fresh and the lack of sentimentality and jedi-ness was very refreshing. Some nice little touches and nods to Star Wars as well with some of the cameos and lines in there without any of that being a bit 'meh'.

Finally got to see it this afternoon and WOW! Loved it. I'll go on a limb here and say in my slightly awestruck state that at the moment with little reflection this for me is the best SW of them all.

I may think differently in the morning but right now, just WOW!

Watched it last night. Loved it, so many incidental nods to the older films and universe. Even the guardians of the Whills being a nice reference to "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as taken from the Journal of the Whills, Saga I: The Star Wars" (snappy title, right?), or the angry aliens from the Mos Eisley cantina walking down the street in Jedha, and I'm sure so many other things I missed first time round.

Well I absolutely loved it. Got off to a shaky start, but how it built up. The ending was perfect and that was one of the best space/ground battles we have had. Great stuff. Who knows, the Star Wars 'stories' could end up being better than the main chapters.

BFI IMAX was a pain today, so many ads!!! Then thought the film had started...nope, another trailer. It is like they are trying to sell it to us when we have already bought it!

I agree with the other comments here, I thought vaders neck wasn't quite right! Some great scenes with him in though. An incredible character. Way better than the force awakens. Not just going through the motions and the 'nods' came naturally.

Some of the stuff cut from the movie almost looks like it was enhanced for the trailer, the Tie Fighter appearing in front of Jones as she's running along to the computer console \ antenna looks like it was added for dramatic effect as she has no reaction to it in the footage.

Apparently most of what you saw in the trailers and then didn't see in the film was because they had a massive re write and ditched loads of stuff.

Hell the original film with the tie fighter scene has her and the black and the robot all escaping off the planet with the plans.

delatol jack says do or do not for rogue one, I understand the position but I found the attempt worthy of merit above virtually all but the first 2, I would be very interested to see what was lost/gained in reshoots.

They can't win: Either Disney has to stop being Disney, or The Saga(TM) has to be rewritten from scratch, making most of the fan-verse and fanbase meaningless. Both routes would cost a bomb in terms of lost ticket sales, roaring-nerd negative publicity and the equally likely stale directorship, with multiple cuts based on focus group feedback, without a shadow of a doubt.

So I remain on the Dark Side as far as your only Rogue is concerned, ready to behead Han Solo yet to emerge from his carbonite nap. They gave us Ip Man in Space, and now I fully expect Blade Runner of the Misty Nebula to make a debut! :p

Watched it last night and thought it was super.

I get the character development shouts but I guess the purpose of this is to give some backing to before A New Hope which I think it done really well. Some of the nods back (or should they be forward) in terms of character and phrases to A New Hope were really enjoyable.

So much better than the Force Awakens imo.

watched it at the weekend, what a total move away from the other films... but it was missing something... no strong central character in my opinion.

Acting was more normal than the other films - did they do the bizarre wooden acting on purpose on the previous films?

I was bored I have to admit, kept looking at my watch hoping it was going to end soon...

a few nice scenes and I liked that the technical failing in the deathstar was there on purpose
