Rolf Harris dead

Same here, used to enjoy the cartoon club on itv after school, then what he did came to light. :(
He also did Cartoon Time which was him drawing the likes of Daffy, Bugs etc with a couple of Looney Tunes cartoons in there. That was about 5pm on Sundays on BBC1.

At my son's nursery, there used to be a male carer. My wife and I thought it was good to have a male influence in the room, but I remember the local facebook group having some post where a prospective parent was basically saying they wouldn't send their child there because one of the room staff was male. Obviously it's their choice where they send their kids but it's a sad state of affairs when people are are just taking blanket approaches like that.

And they wonder why they struggle to attract men into primary school teaching.... The mere fact you would want to do that career has a man is enough for people to think you're a wrong 'un.

no he isn't....... his brother was done however. TBH it is wrong that such a big deal is being made about Philip. he can't help what his brother did. As I understand it his only crime was not shipping his brother right away. he did eventually however. was this a mistake? sure but if it was your brother would you not give him chance to come clean himself?
truth is I don't know the details as I don't follow gutter press ... but The silver fox isn't a molester.

AFAIK, his brother told him that the boy was 16 when he first told him so, although a bit dodgy, it wasn't illegal.

I think he found out the truth later.

Philip Scofield is a nonce too?
Allegedly. He has a gag order which expires in July and has been in touch with a 17yr old tik tokker supposedly,

There was a much bigger thread about it but I suspect because of the gag or whatever it's now gone. Still, some chatter here:

+
Either way, he's not the friendly human the TV character had us all believe.

We'll find out in July I guess when those involved run to the media

Yeah and there's probably all sorts of dodgy people around who will evade suspicion forever. There's probably numerous ones that come across very well as kind and friendly. Sadly the behaviour of people like this means that shadows of doubt get cast across any men that work with children. At my son's nursery, there used to be a male carer. My wife and I thought it was good to have a male influence in the room, but I remember the local facebook group having some post where a prospective parent was basically saying they wouldn't send their child there because one of the room staff was male. As a younger child I [thankfully?] didn't even really know that this sort of abuse was a thing (innocence of youth I guess), it just wasn't talked about.

The tragic cost of being male.

The odd thing is that there are female paedophiles. The ratio of male to female is just based on convictions. But women are more likely to avoid conviction, probably because everyone thinks paedophiles are male! Also, apparently, young males are far less likely to report offences against them when it was a woman offender.

Of course, we don't really know because no one ever admits to being a paedophile. We just guess that most men are guilty until proven innocent, while women are the opposite!

Could well be that it was illegal, depending what was going on. A 16-year-old is still considered a child in the eyes of the law. Groom a child and you are in a lot of trouble, even if they are 16.

Anyone with any sense would "hang-up" on anyone who declared they were less than 21. Especially if you're a celebrity.

I thought that would only be in cases of position on power (or whatever it's called) like their teacher, coach etc etc where the legal limit is 18?

If it's legal to have sex with a 16yo, where does the grooming come in?

I'm not saying you're wrong. This is just my, admittedly, basic understanding as I haven't really needed or wanted to look into it.

Anyways, the case in question has the boy at 13 so illegal... I just mentioned the reason why Philip Schofield didn't report his brother as soon as he heard - he may well be of the same belief as me i.e believing nothing to report as not illegal.

You know, I am not exactly sure. I do know that at 16 the law still considers you to be a child. Only at 18 are you considered an adult. And at 16, your parents are still responsible for you, and can legally pursue anyone they feel is grooming their child. For gays, this is even older.
So, always, my theory on this is, don't talk to anyone on the internet is less than 18! The child's parents are unlikely to approve, even if the chat is completely harmless. And if I was a celebrity and gay, then I would make that 21 not 18. Even if you are just talking about the weather, it doesn't matter, IT LOOKS BAD!

Can't even recall that one. He could have had a great legacy as an entertainer, now anything good he was involved with has a large shadow cast across it as what he done wrong greatly outweighs it.

My best mate is a male nurse. People don't associate that job with being a pedo, but because it's a relatively unusual profession for a man, there is a bit of stigma still and assumptions on sexuality. Some (not many) patients also don't like the idea of having a male look after them.

Society hates seeing men in nursing, and primary and nursery teaching.

Every year the professions put out articles wringing their hands about the absolutely woeful representation but they offer nothing to offset the negative image that men have to put up with instead of simply applying for secondary and higher teaching or something other than nursing. So another year goes by and absolutely nothing changes again.

Maybe one of these decades it will fix itself.

It's interesting to wonder what will happen in the future. Parents are getting worse, not better. As wealth and technology have improved, parents "protect" their kids more and more. I can remember walking nearly a mile to school when I was a kid! Most of the kids walked. Nowadays, that's very rare. Back then, most mothers didn't have cars. Sort of makes me think that any technology that comes along that protects kids more will be adopted rather than mothers learning to trust other adults.

Some people still think certain jobs are only suitable for one gender.

What’s more important? Skill or gender

It's seedier than that... it's not that people think one gender is better than the other at the job, it's that they think a certain gender (men) should be treated with suspicion if they want to do that job i.e. "why does a man want to be around kids, it sounds dodgy to me"
