Ronaldinho says - no English team will go through

so if another company came and head hunted you and said, "jazz, we think you are great. we think your current employers are under paying you for your good work. if you join our company you will receive an immediate 30% pay increase over what you are currently getting paid".

we await your response.

what would your response be jazz?

Football is different to just working in the normal world. At Arsenal we took him as a 14 year old, developed him into probably the best LB in the world and this is what he does back to us? If his agent had gone Cole could say that oh I didn't but FFS the guy went himself.

dude. he just wants to further his career. he wants to move onto a club that seems to be "going places". also, he wants to maximise his earning potential. i just dont see anything wrong with that.

no matter how much we were earning, most of us would want to maximise our earning potential.

yes arsenal "made" him, but this doesnt mean that he owes arsenal anything. they didnt "make" him for free. they "made" him so they wouldnt have to splash out cash on buying in a LB.

remember this, any player has his price. no player (with the exception of matt le tessier ;)) has ever been priceless.

Actually, there are several players in the world that are priceless. Due to the fact that both club & fans like said player too much, and has the financial power to keep said player at the club.

However, as for "maximising his earning potential". I agree with Jazz, he owes Arsenal for what they`ve given him.
The least he could have done was actuall put in a transfer request rarther than go behind there backs.

well i cant answer for cole's reasons for going behind arsenal's back. however, im sure his thinking is that if he has a meeting in private, first. once he can see that the offer on the table is "doable", then he can tell his bosses at arsenal that he wishes to leave and that chelsea have offerred him a good deal and he wishes to act upon it.

now, if he puts in a transfer request before meeting chelsea, arsenal accept, he then speaks to mourinho/chelsea and they give him a bad deal (eg. if u move here ashley, you will be on the bench most of the time), then cole is well and truely screwed. its difficult then to tell his arsenal boss that, "erm, gov, i know i wanted to goto chelsea, but they offerred me a bad deal, so i wanna stay now". arsenal will probably tell him to get lost. to avoid this situation, he first wanted to see what chelsea were all about before he made things official.

u c, in most cases, tapping is unreported, however, in a few cases, you do get found out and whole hell breaks loose, which is what has happened to cole. by leaking the story, mouriho has increased the chances of signing a player that he has his eye on. he is very cunning.

on the subject of "does cole owe anything arsenal?". if u were employed by a company for 10 yrs and during your tenure you became the best at what you do, are you trying to tell me that for the rest of your life you are stuck with that company, no matter what the terms of your contract are? as an employee of the club/company, do u have no right whatsoever to leave the club/company for a better deal? i fail to understand why he "owes" arsenal - please explain.

Your getting very confused by the two DIFFERENT concepts of football business and normal business. You need to be able to differentiate between the two in order to construct an argument that has good enough grounding to work. ;)

If he was at a club that didnt have the ability at the moment to do great things, prehaps WBA, then maybe he has the right to do what hes just done. But Arsenal are a big team with the ability to win the big competitions, so its not like his career is being held back is it?

cole might be seeking more money, more adulation AND trophies.

looking at chelsea this year, he might be thinking, with mourinho at the helm, the champions league and premiership are realistic targets for chelsea to achieve (this year and next). being an "insider" and having "inside information about arsenal", cole might believe that arsenal wont win anything next year (the year after that is too far ahead to predict).

hence, he might feel that his best chance of winning something may lie with chelsea. this added to the fact that he will be playing in high profile games for chelsea in the (later stages of the) champions league, where the big clubs will be watching him play in semi finals and the final, will mean that his "stock value" will increase substantially. after chelsea, in 4 yrs time, he may even get a dream move to a club like milan, real madrid or barca (at arsenal this wont happen). add to this scenario his pay increase - it makes it a no-brainer for him to move to chelsea.

the way he sees it there is no difference between being at arsenal (winning 0 trophies next year) or being at a middle of the table team that might be winning 0 trophies. on top of that cole might believe that he is one of, if not the best left back in the world. this would almost certainly warrant him playing in a champions league final - with arsenal, based on past performance, reaching a champions league final is nigh on impossible, while arsene wenger is there.

i agree, that tapping is against the rules, but its happened, and im just explaining possible reasons why cole/his agent/chelsea might have done this.

ps. now it would be out of order if he says something like, "i love arsenal, i will never leage them" then 3 months later he is seen playing for another team. (like what rooney and alan smith did with everton and leeds, respectively). this would be a moral issue.

Theres no way it can be justified. At all.

so what you are saying is that if you are in a good team, that you are committed for life to be in their employment. this is not my way of thinking. i dont care who he is working for and how good his club/company are, a human being has the right to move clubs/companies for any reason he chooses.

Becides, hes not even as good as people make out. Bridge is better imo. But thats just me.

i also dont think he is that great, but mourinho clearly believes that cole is good enough to get into the chelsea first team. and who is gonna argue with mourinho, given his track record at picking players...especially defenders (porto and chelsea both had great defensive records).

Dont try and twist my point as you have tryed with Jazz. I have never said that he should be committed to them for life. Im saying that he should treat them with respect. He should have asked, as players are supposed to, the club for a transfer. Simple as.
And again, you are confusing football business with normal business. Please. For your own sake, get out of that frame of thinking. It makes no sence to compare the business practices of both to one another. Apples to Oranges.
