Rooney has just been stretchered off. OH NOOO

Yup, just heard the same on the radio.

It's a downer, but if we're capable of winning the World Cup, then we should be able to do it even with the loss of such an influential player.

i feel so sorry for the lad, i reckon he would have set the place alight, a real blow for England and for Rooney... and Man Utd too, as if he is out for 3 months, he's gonna miss pre season prep & training.

:(

at least we have owen, gerrard, lampard, terry, cole, beckham

all influential players.

rooney was just one of many. I think the players that should be holding the responsibility should be taking the front lead now.

its a shame rooney wont be able to play in this england setup for the world cup.

another 4yrs in a long time to wait to see him play at the world cup :(

it will only be beckham and neville that wont be around wont it?

I'm pretty sure that Beckham and Neville won't be in the next world cup. Who knows about anybody else, a lot can happen in fours years.

It's a shame about Rooney, but I'd accepted that he wouldn't be in the world cup the day it happened. It's a shame for him and also the fans who won't get to see him on the "greatest" stage. He's only 20, though, and there are plenty more world cups to get into.

yeh true.

i just hope in 4yrs time our squad is as good as it is now.

obviously we might have a greater chance then with terry gerrard and lampard being much more experienced... but i suppose that world cup will/might be the last for them too... so i hope we have some new players that are able to come through and shine before then.

reminds me how short footballing career really is

Lemon where's all that optimism gone. Something to cheer you up; Man Utd have just said on SSN that even with the multiple fracture they still think it will only take the 6 weeks that they first said.

Weyhey, Rooney Rooney!

Why aye.. 6weeks.. multiple fractures.. easy as you like

Rooney will make it, ignore the first 3group games... crouch will score a few hat tricks

but Rooney will make it for the knockout stages. Think he will play about 30mins before the Qtrs.. then full 90mins in the Qtr final.

All guessing, but i believe Rooney will be ready for after the group games.

Gutted for Rooney, was obvious he would'nt make the World Cup, and i also feel a bit sorry for the rest of the team, i mean everyones going on like seen as Rooneys injured we aint gona win the thing, so whats the point in going, we won't win any game as there is no Rooney, if that was the case why take the team, just take Rooney on his own if he was fit, just tell the rest of em to forget it, as Rooney is the only one going as the rest of em are crap.

One player does not make the team, we have plenty of good players in there who are capable of winning games for us, we have Owen, Gerrard, Lamps etc.... just because Rooney is injured does not mean stuff it thats it we won't win, waste of time going, why not just withdraw then, no because we still have a chance thats bloody why, we have still got players who can score goals. :)

If Rooney is the only one who can win us the World Cup, then why have Man UTD not wone the League, should have easily won it as they have Rooney, rest of the Premiership should have just said balls, were not playing just give Rooney the Prem title cup now, and we won't have a footy season anymore, no point as Rooney will win it.

Wayne Rooney is still six weeks !!!!!!!!!!

Manchester United believe that star striker Wayne Rooney is still six weeks away from full training despite the setback in terms of an update on his injured foot.

The England forward has fractured more than one bone and Sven Goran Eriksson feels it would take a miracle for his key man to recover in time for the World Cup finals, with the opener against Paraguay taking place in under six weeks' time.

Yet United have offered a glimmer of hope to the England supporters praying Rooney can take some part in the tournament by stressing their original prognosis regarding the 20-year-old is still the same.

The Old Trafford outfit have reiterated the initial verdict on the injury and, although they will not go into more details, that news is brighter as it means the ex-Everton youngster could yet be available in time for the knockout stages of football's greatest competition.

"Despite stories in the press, we believe Wayne is still six weeks away from full training," said the United statement.

"We are not prepared to discuss anything specific in relation to his injury or his rehabilitation."

He is expected to attend Manchester United's Player of the Year awards dinner and was photographed without his crutches at a local hospital on Wednesday morning

Indeed. I don't think all this woe and doom can do much for the other strikers. It's time for one of them to step-up to the challenge and prove themselves on the world stage.

It's a different sport I know, but I'd use Kurt Warner in the NFL as an example. For the '99-00 season, he was the third string backup Quarterback for the St. Louis Rams. In pre-season, the starting QB and second-string both got injured, so Warner started the season. It was hoped he'd get through a few games until one of the other QBs returned.

For that season, he threw 41 touchdowns, won the Super Bowl, was League AND Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) which is something only five other players have ever done. He had one of the greatest seasons ever for a QB.

The whole team and I'm sure most of the fans for the last 2 years have been praising Rooney and how much he has progressed mentally and physically. With the media hype as well that he'll win the World Cup for England, losing a player held in such high esteem will be a massive psychological blow to the team and their confidence. That's why a lot of people are all doom and gloom now it's unlikely he'll play a big part in the WC if at all.

I know he is only one player but you cannot dismiss the mental affect it will have on the team and the fact that they'll now have to rethink how they will play because I'm sure all plans before involved Rooney in them.

We didn't win the Premiership this season because Rooney is given little support, we got second place (hopefully) because of him and his workrate. No player can single handedly win a tournament without the support of a team around him. But it's a different matter when the team play for him and then he is taken out of that equation, who have they to play to now? :)

well looks like he could feature, so the early doom and gloom reports appear to be false... man utd still say 6 weeks, which gives him a fighting chance of being part of the setup even if he's a super sub..

I dont understand the hype about rooney...

I'd rather have fowler, owen or heskey up front than crouch (CRAP)

I think gerrard, lampard and beckham will be the stars of our WC campaign with or without rooney.

I know that, its just the way the media are going on, its like now he's injured were doomed, but were not, he will be missed obviously, but that still doesn't mean that were well doomed without him. :)
