Rooney signs 5 year deal

utterly ridiculous, players have way too much power

as the poster above has said, could this have been a tactic thought up between rooney and ferguson? because, let's be honest, it was a bit out of the blue and ferguson has never been seen like he was at that press conference

90th minute winner vs anyone will make the fans cheer him. It will me :D to be honest despite what he's done, there's no point booing your own players because it only hurts the team overall

That's a very rosey picture you're painting there Loki ;)

I think it's more likely that Rooney's agent has held Utd to ransom and ultimately Utd have backed down. It's even reported that a condition of the deal is for 1 stand at OT will be named after Rooney's agent ;)

Maybes but would Rooney have signed if Money and future players weren't promised.

I am seeing Fergie sat in his office at Carrington with a glass of Red saying another succesfull day at the office.

The thing that people are forgetting is that pretty much the same thing happened with George Best as well

Serious question: Do the Glazers strike you as people that would change their plans for Utd on the back of Rooney threatening to leave?

Everything that has been said about them is that they're utterly ruthless businessmen and they've barely reacted to any of the campaigns and protests against them by the fans. Does Rooney's future hold that much sway?

My take is that the Glazers want him to sign a new deal to protect his transfer value and Fergie realises how much Utd need Rooney and they made him a last ditch bumper deal to stay.

Im looking at this from another angle in that Ferguson has played the press, the player and most importantly The Glazers like a fiddle.

He will never publicly criticise the Glazers albeit its plain to see from everyone the quality of players we have attracted recently is not there. So get Rooney to call their bluff by handing in a transer request citing lack of investment.

If Rooney goes Fergie can demonstrate his pedigree for developing talent and countering his claim. If he stays then the Glazers must have made some substantial promises for future squad investment. Either way Fergie Wins.

At the very least we get some very good quotes from the Utd fans when they start singing his name in here again :D

I dunno mate but maybe the Yanks are coming round to the idea that the only way to make money in Football comes through merchandising and winning trophys.

Despite him looking like a wasp chewing a bull dog, he still shirts for us. When on form and fit he does bring more to the side than what I think we could get by loosing him.

I think its a bit what I said and what you said in all honesty

maybe fergie said to the glazers, sign rooney, show some ambition or ill leave too?

he sells shirts like literally NO ONE else at man utd. he is te face of english football and he is the face of man utd.

without him, next best imo name wise is Nani and Berbatov...

and i see many more rooney shirts than either of them

Sounds right to me. Sell him when he's got 2 or more years left on his deal.

This whole saga stinks and while Man Utd & Rooney may think its all turned out well, I personally think they all come out of it looking pretty poor but especially Rooney.

Rooney said he wanted to leave two months ago. And then in the space of 48 hours everything has turned around and its all sorted. Something fishy here and its just further undermined my love of the game.

I no longer follow England but can't shake my love of Arsenal. Sometimes I wish I could but I can't.

The sad thing is, until 3 or 4 months ago I had actually started to respect and like Rooney. But what with whores, his reaction to the boos at the world cup and now this.....well he can stick it. I'll revert back to my original feelings about him - thick, selfish and not a nice human being.

RIP football.
