Root Canal Work

Depends where you go in my experience. I've had a few root canals. The one that cost £400 was great, the one that I had done on the NHS was not.

i had root canal a few years ago the actual surgery wasnt to bad but i was in agony for days after my jaw felt as though someone had smacked me with a hammer :(

my mum once had root cancal surgery aswell and the dentist messed it up  so she had to switch dentists to get it fixed, i dont know what happened but it must have been bad for my mum to want to switch dentist

is it possible to have a "great" root canal?

Well, he explained what he was doing, and why, played classical music and had a big screen for me to watch a crap film with subtitles. And I never had any trouble with the tooth again, the NHS experience was very different :D. Also he did lots of things that the NHS dentist didn't, he used this little hook wire thing to tell him how far into the tooth he was, or to find the base of the root or whatever it's for, and did a couple of xrays. The NHS dentist just sort of drilled heavily, sprayed it with something, filled it and that was that, 3 weeks later it was aching and had to be done again.

they offered me the choice of having it done there for 280 or at a specialists for 700....with that much difference in price i obviously chose to have it done at my dentists for 280.

although concerned if the dentists arent the specialists...who are?!?! LOL

Think my only worry is because I had a filling in that tooth which is what has gone bad, and that killed to have done so i'm just very cautious now because i know how much that filling hurt to have done. suppose i'm worried that the root canal work will be the same.

There is no escape, it is painful after the injection wears off, just make sure the dentist gives you some pain killers. You’ll live. :)

Had plenty of root canal work done, no biggy imo.
How much are they charging you out of interest ?

You will just about feel the injection and you may need a further shot. You wont feel any pain though. The discomfort of keeping your mouth open for 5 minutes is about the height of it. Get some decent painkillers for when the Novacaine wears off (just incase) :)

Had root canal once, around 2 years ago.

Get the usual injections you have when you get a filling, drill the tooth, clear out the nerves.

Didn't feel a thing. Even after the injections wore off - the tooth is dead. No pain afterwards, no nothing. A filling is worse IMHO.

Had first part of one done two weeks ago. On wednesday they're going to open it up to do the permanent fillling.

My jaw had been throbbing since xmas and the dentist gave me antibiotics in case the pain was caused by sinus infection putting pressure on the nerve. Three days into the antibiotics the jaw pain vanished, to be replaced by the most excruciating toothache of an upper pre-molar (that had been filled two years ago).

The dentist then prodded the pre-molar (I yelped!) and he said it was a classic symptom of a dying root. He drilled it out and packed and filled it with something that tasted of Oil of Cloves. When the injection wore off three hours later there was no discomfort whatsoever. This is in conflict with what my mate told me when he had one done (He said it was the worst pain ever).

I'm due back on wednesday for whatever they do for the second stage of the treatment.

Total cost: £250.00

I had a root canal treatment done about 7 years ago. I fell asleep in the chair while the dentist was doing it. It takes about 2-3 hours. No pain whatsoever.

I've had 6 done.
2 were the worst pain I've ever experienced but with the other 4 I felt nothing.
The dentist told me the difference is whether the roots are live or dead.

ive had root canal, you can feel them cutting the roots and thats disturbing lol, but everyones teeth are different, so no one can tell you if it will hurt.

and my root canal wasnt a success. theres always a chance they wont work, next step is to pull the tooth out.
