Rosie Jones

I'm all for disability representation, as someone who is disabled.

But I don't know why the media seems to choose people with extreme disabilities.

When I meet new people I can see their preconceived ideas of disability get imposed on me. So because the media put someone like Rosie on tv then the immediate assumption about me is that I have a communication issue.

In my anecdotal evidence of being around disabled people, especially the ones who can move around on their own, they can mostly speak clearly.

I'm reliably informed that's she's funnier and more talented than Ricky Gervais.

I don't even think Netflix would give Jones a comedy special.

Socia media is currently full of idiots claiming its 'abelist' or some such nonsence that so many people don't like her.

Comedy's obviously subjective but there's a reason comic's like Gervais and Chapelle have the level of exposure they receive and don't have to rely on being booked on TV panel shows looking for 'safer' comics that fill a quota.

Because its the easier thing to do. Fundamentally they are shoehorning them in for diversity in many cases and if they used people who were mildly disabled they would be accused of wimping out or not showing the true face of disability. They can't really win but they can lose.

Ultimately though when it comes to any of these discussions where you probably have people being pushed to the front for political or point scoring reasons, I come back to the idea that the same is true for most people in these positions. They aren't there in many cases because of their talent. Its nepotism, right place, right time, they are safe etc etc.

People, myself included have whinged about female commentators or pundits being rather crap and forced into those roles before they are ready. Then you take a bit of a step back and realise that 90% of the male commentators and pundits and just as ****, they just haven't been pushed into the roles all of a sudden as a push for diversity so its not quite so obvious.

I do not find her at all funny.

I also do not find Frankie Boyle funny. In fact I find him utterly cringe and distasteful.

I also do not find Michael McIntyre funny.

I don't think I should have to justify why I don't think Rosie Jones ins't funny (the reason being, I just don't find her jokes humorous), however if I made the statement on it's own, in many settings I would likely be forced to explain why. Unlike my other two statements of not finding the other two funny.....

I am pleased that she is having a good career out of doing what she loves and is breaking barriers, so quite sad that people are forced into feeling bad about themselves for not having the same taste in humor really.

Love Frankie Boyle and McIntyre before he hit big - his autobigraphy is very funny and humbling.

Rosie Jones? As funny as my ex's promises of never leaving me.

When I was younger with my two friends, one in a wheelchair, went to a brothel. We didn't realise the place had two sets of doors and we all ended up trapped and had to ask the receptionist to open both doors.

So much for making a good impression. Though I'm sure it looked funny on the security cameras. :D

Isn't this a Jim Jeffries joke? :D

She can occasionally be funny, but her issue is due to her disability people have sussed out the joke's punchline as she's delivering it, or before she starts to deliver it, which throws the timing all off for the audience reaction and makes things seem very awkward.

Frankie Boyle’s jokes were always distasteful so I can see why many don’t appreciate him.

IMO he used to be fantastic in the 00’s but since then he’s become very political and selective in who he aims his jokes at. He’s also clearly deliberately toned his act down and now only picks approved ‘safe’ targets/topics (brexit, trump, right wing politicians/parties, Israel, etc) he knows won’t get him into trouble with the political factions he supports and the tv stations he regularly works for.

It’s clear he’s only doing it now as a day job and to push politics whereas before there was a genuine sharpness in his jokes and an edge to his humour where anything was fair game if he found it amusing.
