Rover Coupe?

A 7 Series to a Rover 200 is quite a downgrade. Why not get a E36?

This is usually where I would step up and say becuase E36's are scabby, old, dated, have nasty interiors, and the base models have no kit.

But given that the alternative is a Rover Coupe yea, why not an E36?

How long does it take to replace the HG on a K-Series?

I would consider myself to be intermediate/advanced when it comes to wielding spanners.

Why would you even consider a car that had such a high risk of developing such a big failure? Common sense should drag you away from such an engine.

Go for a none K-series one and you cant go wrong imo.

Andy - I honestly thought the VVC didnt have HG problems - how silly am i :D

Why miss out on a great performing, lightweight engine just because of some stupid overrated problem... it really is madness.

And LOL, you're a very silly billy :p

I'd be looking at a 1.8vvc. The new dash is a lot more pleasent than the old one, plus you get nicer alloys.

Seeing as its for the missus, how about this one.

Do not get that one.

Get a better colour, and one with FULL sandstone creamish/grey leather and maybe aircon.

Charcoal grey VVC's with full leather and Aircon are out there, and the light interior with the dark outside looks wicked.

The purple aint nice!

Plus for the money the full leather is MUCH nicer, and not forgetting the Aircon for the summer, this wont cost much if anything over the one youve got there, jsut keep ** eyes open and be on the lookout.

Plus get your ass over to Rovertech.net for the best advice and knowledge and CHEAP parts.

Bunch of nice guys, for instance, I got a full pair of front calipers plus pads for £20 delivered! You cant go wrong mate.

Basically THIS but with full leather should see you right!

If you want to embarrass 95% of the people on the road with pure power then get the turbo. Its VERY fast considering, and it only gets faster with decent exhausts etc.

A turbo running a decat, and a full SS 2.5" exhaust system, and a decent Air filter, (preferably a replacement panel one) will see you the better side of 212Bhp.

Also if you did look at cars old enough to have the honda 1.6 in the coupe only came with a SOHC engine (111 bhp) if it has a DOHC D16 in there it's had a transplant and you'd want to let the insurance know.

I used to have a 1.8VVC coupe, in anthracite with half leather, it really was a lovely car, the mk3 dash makes it feel so much more modern. I have a 94 1.6 coupe atm (the silver beast that all at the soton meet couldn't forget :D) and I have a mk3 dash sitting in my shed waiting for a sunny weekend as the mk2 dash really is horrible.

I really shouldn't have sold the VVC but it got broken into and didn't feel the same, but at least i'm having fun working on my new one :)

The other thing about them for me anyway, is that they are pretty rare compared to most other cars, so seeing another is always an event and leads to smiles on both sides. Unless its an old lady in a 1.6 Automatic.........

Other than the VVC timing gear, the whole car is so basic to take apart and fix, it really is motoring on the cheap if your handy with a spanner.

The only thing is that they are totally impractical for lugging toolboxes and anything bigger than a fruitcake.

The boot has a tiny opening despite being pretty large, although the rear seats can be split and both fold down.

Full leather is a must, and anyone sitting in the rear with the full leather will be wowed at how comfy and relatively roomy it is.......

The roof is nothing short of amazing, and will be absolutely great come summer!!!

Either that or get a REALLY rare 200 Cabriolet.

Did you read this is for his missus?

You may not like girly purple, but thats just your opinion, and because you dont like it doesn't mean she wont. Plus on the Rover Coupe club, they all voted blue as the best colour, so if you're going by averages I guess you should get one of them.

Do you really think she'll be into modifying the engine and wasting 95% of the road? I'm sure she's much prefer a nice looking dash, lower mileage, lower insurance, better economy and a newer car for the money. Plus I can't imagine her jacking it up and swapping the cat around before and every MOT, just for the sake of a couple of horses. :p

You're right about the aircon. I always wished I had it on my Rover Coupe, but I couldn't find a purple one with it in the 30 seconds of looking.

I never meant - 'buy this one'. Just an example.

Can't speak for Rilot's Mrs, but I prefer half leather myself.

Matter of opinion I think. I'd say it suits the car - a bit gay for my tastes but it's fine for a girl. :)

Ha ha - I remember that. I couldn't even get a 14inch monitor in it. It was a big old space, but the opening was stupidly small. Plus there's some strengthening across it which disects the boot in half.

Why not an E36?
I hate them, she hates them.

The main reason for not considering a BMW is that we've had so many of them over the years. She wants something different.

She's looking at putting a bit more cash in now so we may have £3k for her.

Short list:

Rover Coupe
Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC (Would be my choice)
Nissan 200SX
Ford Cougar 2.5 (She's keen on this one)
Audi Coupe 2.5

Any reason why she hasn't included the Hyundai Coupe? Or the Fiat Coupe?

She's a badge snob so the Hyundai is right out despite it being an excellent car.

The Fiat Coupe is out because they seem to be very spendy to insure compared to the others I've listed.

OK forget it.

Lots of men buy cars for thier wives girlfriend etc to sometimes use themselves sometimes, and the part about the turbo was extra and useful information, how do you know she isnt a "girlracer"

Clearly everyones a coupe expert here.

Sorry but the part about purple being the most popular colour is total bull.

Full cow is always preferable to half cow, and will get you a better price when it comes to sell it, and definately a better interior compared to the Rover half leather.

So why speak at all ? Of course if you prefer half leather that MUST mean his wife will

The rover half leather is crap compared to the full. If people dont like the comments from someone who knows coupe's backwards, then forget it.

Take the advice from other people here instead, im sure they have much more coupe experience than someone who owns two, and has been into them for years.

You would have to be mad to settle for half leather and a colour that would make it harder to sell later. Its not rocket science.

Cannot belive the attitude here sometimes. All I did was offer some of what I thought was friendly advice, and all the so called "experts" can do is nitpick everything I posted.

Wow, what a pointless post.

You're the one that threw his toys out of the pram.

I thought you were leaving the thread...you're still hanging around a lot.

And less of the bolshy attitude - it's making you appear to be a prize onanist.
