So... He seems to be dragging Liverpool down to new lows.

Does anyone think he is destined to fail, and he has bitten off more than he can chew?

His "signings" have been shocking.

I dont think he has what it takes.

Also why does he have absolutely no expectations whatsoever?

Even Blackpool would try and put a positive spin on it. Not old Roy though... If Liverpool lost to Oldham Ladies Wheelchair association he would still call it a good result.

Im flummoxed.

I'm not sure how much of it you can blame on him and how much of it is down to the players being unsettled by the wraggling over ownership.

That's the problem at Liverpool, there's so much wrong at the club it's hard to see the wood for the trees.

I think Kenny would have been the better choice though as an "interim" manager until they can get the ownership issue sorted out. He knows the club inside out, commnads a lot of respect and would have been able to hit the ground running.

I know he needs time, and maybe he is being more clever than I am giving him credit for... but other managers have made a positive impact almost immediately.

Still, I guess it took Sir Alex a while to get going, but still.... Im not sure Roy is anywhere near that calibre, or ever will be!

Don't get me wrong, I admire what he did at Fulham but he's never going to instantly make Liverpool back into a top four team.

As Weebull said...

Average Team Performs Averagely Shock.

The treatment Hodgson is getting is awful. Liverpool have a poor squad which was compiled before he arrived. They're playing about their level. This is not Hodgson's fault, they're probably better now than last season.

Was Poulson his buy or Benitez?

There were periods last season where it was worse than now, when Torres was injured etc. surely you can remember that more than I can?

We were awful away from home in a lot of games last season but not at home and certainly not week in week out like we are at the moment.

The truth is we're playing well below what we're capable of, especially Torres who looks fed up with having to play in a team that aren't interested in passing the ball to him and attacking.

His performance has little bearing on Liverpool's current situation which as implied is out of his control. The club's going through a right lull; the backroom situation has filtered all the way down.

It doesn't help either that their main striker is clearly short of confidence/will/fitness etc., they just don't have anybody else that can chip in an amount of goals apart from Gerrard.

And apart from Reina there are no other world class players within the squad that can help push for a Champ's League spot. Selling Alonso was beyond dumb, then selling Mascherano after that meant the midfield is always going to be well short.

Fair enough, I suppose I thought at least you're relatively solid over the last few weeks even though it seems Roy has sacrificed any attacking intent.

I do think that Hodgson is getting a rough deal though, very few managers could have turned this Liverpool side around in a few weeks, it's not just a small problem

Roy is not good enough.
Squads with far worse players are playing better.
At the end of the game yesterday, Roy is shouting "Only 2 mins stoppage to go! Hold on for the point".

This is against a team even Stoke would give a good game against tbh.
Tactics wrong, mentality wrong.

Indeed.

Roy is a good manager, he's proven this, give him time and hope that things settle down off the pitch and Liverpool should pick up some better results.

They've not had an easy opening few games either.

I'd disagree with this. He's a good manager for a club where there isn't much expected so little pressure. Some would suggest he did an excellent job at Fulham but his away record was awful.

At Blackburn he was poor and didn' seem to be able to cope with expectations, his signings made the team worse and the same seems to be true at Liverpool. It may be unrealistic now with the team they've got but I'm sure most Liverpool fans aren't happy with sending out a team to be happy with a draw against Birmingham.

Possibly not, but Hodgson is all about structure, he will be drilling that into them in training, once thats sorted he brings in attack. Although he's doing things slightly different to Fulham, as he has different types of players.

Once Liverpool get a string of games without Arsenal, Man City etc next they'll bring in more consistency. If he had started with the likes of Brum, Blackpool, Blackburn etc it may have been better for him - but injuries and a run of the top 4 or so teams is never easy!

It's not a case of him getting stick because we're suddenly not back to being the side that finished 2nd the other season. We've got a lot worse than last season and other than 45mins vs Arsenal, there has not been anything positive to show since he took over.

As I said in the other thread, the entire mentality that Hodgson has brought to the club has been shocking. I don't know if he's doing it to take the pressure off the players or himself but he's gone way over board with his dampening of expectations. Despite what's happened to our squad over the last 18months, we've still got a good enough side to be at least challenging a top 4 spot.

Despite what a couple of people may be saying, Liverpool fans as a whole won't be calling for his head anytime soon but that doesn't mean he's immune from criticism.
