Roy Keane retires

It seems that Keane already has his coaching badges so he can go straight into management next season. So there may be a very slight possibility that he'll go to Sunderland, that is, if he has secretly made up with the prince of dickness that is Niall Quinn.

He'll go down as a Man Utd Legend, and rightly so. Brilliant player. Single handedly got us through a lot of games, and we wouldn't have won the Champions League without him.

As for his attitude, most things he did most other players would like to do, but haven't got the balls to.

But would Keane have sought revenge if Haaland hadnt taunted him and called him a cheat as he lay there? I doubt it. Not that it justifies what Keane did, but he was definately no cheat. You knew that whenever Roy stayed down, he was genuinely injured.

I'll give him that, he was a proper mans footballer, not a cheat, but he was very dirty (if that makes sense), but you cant take you anger out on players, it would be a good laugh if everyone he'd ever ****** off did a posible career threatening tackle on him, there would be a queue!

lm not a man utd supporter,he was good leader and player,as some say abit dirty,

I'd have been more annoyed at McCarthy and the Irish FA over that than Keano, he didn't exactly think "Stuff it, I can't be bothered! I'm off home!"

He wants to know why you think it's good that he has retired.
Because despite his past glories, he's been a shadow of the player he once was for United the last 2-3 seasons.
Put it down to injurys, put it down to his age, put it down to whatever, but the last 2-3, imo, he did more damage to United playing than he would have if he was on the bench. Put simply, he wasnt fit to play.
Again, before that, he was a blinding player, one of the best in his position, its just that he's carryed on far further than he should have.
/waits for United fan backlash. :p

still not a good excuse to leave your country down,he was the captain, good way to show leadership

There are two stories to this, 1. he walked out on R.Ireland and 2. he was sent home by Mick McCarthy. Keane was right to question the shoddy unprofessional approach of the FAI and McCarthy and his staff about the WC preparations. But with that he caused a lot of disruption amongst the team, so he had no option but to go home. Whether or not he was sent home or walked out himself will never be denied or confirmed by either party. Even without Keane the Republic did fantastic in the competition, I wonder if Keane could have helped them get even further. :)

No way did McCarthy dismiss him.

Keane temporarily quits international football after a monumental slanging match with Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy, in front of his team-mates in Saipan. Keane had expressed his frustrations with the side's preparations for the 2002 World Cup to the Irish Times, telling them: "You've seen the training pitch and I'm not being a prima donna. Training pitch, travel arrangements, getting through the bloody airport when we were leaving, it's the combination of things. I would never say 'that's the reason or this is the reason', but enough is enough."

That interview led to a furious row, during which Keane told McCarthy. "Mick, you're a liar... you're a ****ing ****er. I didn't rate you as a player, I don't rate you as a manager, and I don't rate you as a person. You're a ****ing ****er and you can stick your World Cup up your arse. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country! You can stick it up your *******."
:D

sure didnt help the team, weather or not they would have gone any further, who knows
when it was was said he retired yesterday, the world cup was brought up here again,so still bad feeling of being let down by keane, weather it was mccarthy or keane, either of them should have been big enough, and help team and country to do well ,instead of the farce it turned out to be
its a pity
so be it
