Royal Family - Abolition?

My thoughts are, the Royal family are upper class twits, only export value is comedy these days.

We can do without that, time we all faced up to facts ... IMHO

Royals = Waste of tax payers money, the Queen and her cohorts do not need to pay for a NHS prescription <---- what's that all about? While we, her so called disciples who grafted hard all their life have to do without and live in constant pain because of so called UK law that is outdated, and a mockery of real life in the UK right now.

Get rid of the Royals is my message, waste of money, and no *argumentative* Don by the name of Balddog will change my mind by having me banned this time to silence me over this matter ... Get rid of the Royal wasters and this comedy attraction for vacationers to the UK, let them see the true beauty of the UK, not the muppets that would put a soap opera to shame with their real life antics.

The Royals are an outdated institution and complete and utter waste of my and your tax's. Get rid of them, pay them redundancy, do what ever is needed, just put an end to this grovelling and throwing my tax's to these upper class twits.

I'm a down to earth Briton, who doesn't mince words. I can even tolerate the recent Muslim tantrums to an extent, but the Royal's in the UK, in 2006 are a farce and total waste of my UK money ..... Get rid of them.

End of story ... IMHO.

Hmm, 53p a year it costs yeah?

So either one Twix for me or millions of pounds of outside money coming into the UK each year.

It's a really tough decision.

All i think is this;

they abolished hereditary lordships 'cause it was unfair for current gen to benefit from acts of past - on this same logic why do we have royal family?!

The thought of Camilla, sat in a palace, having someone dunk her Lincoln biscuit for her into a cup of the Earl Grey, makes my blood boil.

People are making a lot of claims about the money the royal family bring in from tourism.. but does anyone have something to back that up with?

I find it hard to believe any foreigners decide to come here because of the royal family. It's not like they'll even see the queen anyway. They can have a tour of parts of buckingham palace I think but there'd be nothing to stop that continuing if the queen goes. I certainly wouldn't goto another country just because they have a royal family. I think people come here for other reasons and just happen to include buckingham palace on their itinery.

Abolishing the monarchy wouldn't destroy our history, merely prevent anymore history being written, and given the kind of coverage the royal family gets these days I'd say that's a damn good idea.

So long as you realise the money coming in is Comedy value, then you have a point ... However, I still maintain the Royals are overpaid comedians.

You doubt the UK Royals are perceived as fools worldwide? Just look at the recent Sky TV broadcast of the equally ridiculous American Chopper series when they visited the UK, it was obvious (reading between the lines) the Teutul's were having kittens in London at our outdated way of life, but more obvious they appreciated other parts of England, Scotland and Ireland more sincerely.

I'm sick of seeing the UK being a tourist attraction to overseer's visitors due to comedy value.

Get rid of the Royals ... IMHO.

Glad I'm not the only one here who has these views!

I just fail to see that tourists come to the UK to solely see the royal family. And there 'free' way of life needs looking at.

I never said I doubted the Royal family are percieved as fools and if they are I don't care. They make money for the country, I won't chop my nose off to spite my face.

I can't comment about any programs on Sky, I find that silly old Australian comedian that is Rupert Murdoch to be a total ********. So I avoid Sky on principle.

If it was just the queen who got a free ride then maybe I could stand it. As much as I detest the monarchy I have to give her credit for being the matriarch to a very messed up family.

Yeah that would be understandable, guess my beef isn't with the queen it's with whole royal family.

death. (wonder what the monitoring computers will make of this)

I don't mind that the royal family stays. They don't really have much say in how the country is run so what does it matter? At least they can keep the politicians in check. Just the fact that the Queen is considered the figurehead of the country stops any politicians from having too much power, yet the Queen herself doesn't have that much power.

The only problem I have with it really is that our head of state is also the head of the church which gives the impression that the CoE is the official religion of the country. Some will argue that it is but I don't think it should be. But I'm willing to let that slide since in practice it doesn't really affect anything.

I can see there being 2 sides to this:

1) Get rid of them, which would stop friendly ties with many countries that has helped us over the years. Heck, we may as well shelter ourselves from all outsiders, that way we can thoroughly destroy all that is left of this country.

2) Keep them and stop taking the news stories on the Royal family (or any other small matter) so seriously.

How on earth can you use a tacky US TV show to view everyone's opinion on the Royal family? (they don't even make proper custom bikes).I've travelled to a hell of a lot of countries over the last year and whenever this subject has been brought up any country without a royal family has wished they had one.

A lot of people here seem to be having to make up excuses to get rid of them.

/angryness

They dont solely come to see the royal family but it certainly adds to the decision...I can speak from experience on that account.
