Royal Mail Strikes for the Next Two Weeks

Why did you leave your passport until the very last minute?

What i was going to say.

Bit silly really leaving everything so late your passport is due to arrive the day before you leave, especially considering how useless the passport office can be with processing the damn things.

I make sure I always have a currently valid passport, when it's due to run out, I renew it for another 10 years.

Don't see why people even bother only doing it just before they need it.

So everybody here thinks the strikes are unjustified?

I was moaning to my cousin about not receiving my goods today and how if they did the job correctly then maybe the strikes are justified but my cousin has always had bad service from royal mail and agreed.

Some nob who was having a fag outside mcdonalds said "They're only striking cause they are getting a ***** pay deal mate" to which i was like  cheeky bugger.

From what i have heard they are paid very well for what is essentially an unskilled job. I myself can see my dad loosing his job due to the company moving work outside the uk and selling off land and making a killing. So i understand when people can get ****** off.

base pay of £22k per year, which is the national average, for walking around.
i'd be more than happy with that.

4am start everyday of the week.

Not quite as easy as you may think as it somewhat destroys your ability to have a social life during the week. Generally too tired to do anything Friday, so Saturday night maybe to see mates and that's it.

like most jobs...

4am start everyday of the week... and surely you agreed to that when signing the contract...it's not like the brush over it, and when they've got you 'chained' up they go, oh yeah, you start at 4 am (which is untrue according to learndirect (5am-6am)

Yep, most jobs start at 4am... :S

Maybe if you set your watch to a completely time zone

edit - just as an aside, my mate is working as a postie and he's not exactly getting a lot for it. he hasn't been striking though.

There should be another way to show industrial action and protest - how about, they refuse to take any money for postage costs, and deliver everything for free! That way they would get back at management without putting the general public out! :D

the comment about 'most jobs' was aimed at your over dramatised destruction of social life :o

o i c.

Still, working 4am - 1pm really distorts your sleep patterns etc. and all your social interaction time is while everyone else is at work.

Bloody idiots. I had urgent stuff ordered which I did via RM forgetting about the strikes and if I had remembered, I would have paid for courier.

What even annoys me is my postie will work everyday but he has been told not to and he hates it cause when the stike is lifted, he will be out all hours at night getting the massive built up collection delivered.

to be fair, you accept this when signing up, like i said, it's not something they suddenly spring on you, the time to complain is before you agree to do it, not after

I'm not saying that, im just giving reason why it's not quite the same as any other random menial job that has normal hours.

Part of the pay package is termed 'anti social working hours bonus' (or something like that) for a reason :p

every job has its downsides, my point is you accept those, by accepting the job.

*smashes head into wall*

All i'm trying to do is point out it is far from the 'just walking around' you seem to think it is.

I suggest you try it for a month, see if you still think it's as **** easy then. I can assure you, it is not as simple as 'just walking around'

Why dont you try nursing? Or medicine? Or any other job that has night/weekend shifts? The "anti-social" hours you have shown are nothing special. Lots of people i know catch trains to london at 7am and get back home at around 8. Those are anti-social hours. Working a local job from 4am isnt that bad.
