I plan to head out to Germany in a couple weeks and hire two or more mechanical German athletes over 2 days.

Have any of you used RSR before. What was the overall experience like?

Yes, I hired a swift from them a few years ago. The excess was high and they got arsey when it wasn't handed back on time (due to the exit of the ring being closed for whatever reason, so not my fault). It was brilliant to drive, so chuckable and so much grip. I'd definitely recommend it.

I'm opting for the GT4 on road and Megane RS track for day one. And I'm tempted to borrow an M3 for day two.

Right so watching vids and I'm having second thoughts about driving on the on the 'Ring. May use the ring taxi

There seemed to be a load of Suzuki Swifts there from rental companies when I was there in July. Ideal car for your first time out, sharp, fun and not too fast with benign handling.

Exactly this, low power so you won't go so fast you'll scare yourself and brilliant fun in the bends. Lift off oversteer if you're keen otherwise it'll be keeping up with (and catching) most metal in the bends.

I may use that for day two of my visit. The company you're referring to is Ring4Rent.

In the nicest possible way, but do you have the driver skill and experience to drive these cars to a level of enjoyment? They are far away from a road car; fully stripped, caged, KW coilovers, road legal semi slicks, insane brakes, track orientated geometry, harnesses, proper bucket seats etc. You may end up spending more money on the hire (and potentially excess) yet would have more fun in the Swifts on offer. I went from driving my 400+ bhp Evo into the Swift for a lap and I think I had more of a laugh in it.

No offence taken.

Neither of those cars are being driven on track. They're a part of the road tours that RSR offer around the region. I fully get what you're saying though. It was the main reason why I chopped in my M135i for a Mini GP2 a while back - The more powerful car just wasn't as fun to drive. With regards to my overall experience I would say its slightly above average.

So back to RSR. I'm considering their First Timer package which includes a day touring the surrounding areas (I plan to choose the GT4 for that). Towards the end of the day I'll be using the Clio RS200 to experience the Nordschleife.

For day two I had originally planned to do another tour (this time in an M3). However, I'm now tempted to go to R-Garage or Ring4Rent and use one of their cars on the track again.

Ah, I thought it was out and out track hire. Do be careful on some of the roads out there, it's not uncommon to see cars in the armco or in ditches!

All booked!

Received an email over the weekend. Turns out some plonker has damaged the GT4. So I'll be settling with an M3 instead... Can say I'm overly impressed. I guess the good thing is that I save myself a few hundred euros.

Head out next week. I'm crapping myself.... I'm also pretty excited.
