RTX 4070Ti no display, BIOS issue?

So, tonight Ive individually tried:

- Re-installed the 4070 making 1000% sure the PCI connecter is fully inserted and locked in
- Made sure the power connecters were fully insered
- Switched PCIe Speed to "Gen3" within PCI Express Configuration and also set PCIEX16_1 (the PCI slot) Link Speed to "Gen3" within PEG Port COnfiguration
- Toggled from Performance to Quiet mode on the GPU
- Disabled "PCI Express Clock Gating" within "Platform Misc Configuration" (The only option that was enabled)
- Set the Primary Display to both PCI and PEG

None of this has made any difference. Every time the lights come on, fans spin but no video is output from the card

Going for a CMOS reset now

Reset CMOS
Powered PC on with no discrete GPU
Set clock in BIOS
Restarted and booted to Windows to ensure all ok
Shut down
Installed 4070
Powered on, no video

Card must be dead....

There are also motherboard bios issues with new cards quite often. I remember having an issue with the 6950 way back.

Best test would be trying on a different motherboard.
Verrrrry interesting. Especially as I too am running on an ASUS Prime mobo

I'm on the latest available BIOS version, downloaded it directly from their website.

Problem is, I can't really wait around with a potentially dead card waiting for a BIOS update. Potentially going past the date I can return it by...

I'll see if it'll work in my brothers PC, but I'm not sure he's got a beefy enough PSU

There might be a beta bios if you ask Asus.

In my example from years ago, one of the ROG motherboard developers released a beta fix really quickly.

Perhaps there's an issue with the cards vbios, as it's not showing up as a card. There are tools that will allow to reflash the video cards bios from the card vendor site.

Try it in another PC, failing that don't waste anymore time and get it RMA'd for a replacement... judging by this thread, could be safe to say it' a dud?

You don't really need a massively powerful gpu to check it works. Just look in the bios to see if it's recognised in your brothers pc. It won't even use 1/4 of the recommended power in the bios. If your worried just don't run any games or anything.

Just saw your reddit post where you said the motherboard is a Z390-P. I doubt they are producing new BIOS for that motherboard.

This is a long shot, but if you are using an m.2 drive, remove it and try again.

Yeah it's certainly looking like a DOA card or an incompatibility issue with the BIOS.

I still haven't had any response from OC, closing in on 48hrs now. So no closer to getting an RMA number yet...

Gonna pop to my Brothers tonight or tomorrow and see if I can test it in his PC

Yeah, im just not sure if it'll even have 2x 8-PIN connectors from the PSU. But it was only purchased 2/3yrs ago so even if its say a 500W PSU I'd assume it should have them...

So hypothetically, if it is a BIOS compatibility issue and they've stopped releasing any BIOS updates you're just stuck. Even though there's no hardware incompatibility between the two and therefore no real reason it shouldn't work...not great. Especially since the GPU and mobo are both ASUS...

I'll give removing the M.2 a try, willing to try anything at this point.

It is almost as tho they intend to have built in obsolescence......

I hadn't realised that you had such an "older" motherboard, everything being relative. Of course the GPU could DOA but it is indeed possible that the combination of that particular board and GPU aren't going to work. Great that you have a chance to try an alternative PC. Not that this is an assurance of it working, with a less capable PSU, but I have watched YT vids of GPU repairs where the person fixing the card did not at the time have the appropriate number of extra connectors for the GPU, but just needed it to POST, and it did. Good luck.

Yeah, it's just very frustrating when you're trying to determine if it's DOA or not. The mobo is only 4yrs old and the BIOS (latest version) is only 14 months old!

If/when I finally get an RMA number and I return it to OCUK as faulty (assuming it doesnt work in another PC). If they test it and it's fine (fairly likely) they'll just send it back, I'll have to pay postage both ways and still be stuck with a card I cant use?!

Wondering if its best to just "cancel" the order and/or return it as unwanted within the 14 day period I'm entitled to...

Ideally I could do with someone from ASUS confirming that there's a compatibility issue with this GPU/mobo combo. I raised a ticket with ASUS support last night so we'll see what they say. I'll post on the ASUS forum too once my account is activated and let's me post there!

OcUK used to have a forum for this, but this has since been removed in favour for the dreaded slow web ticket system. Give them a call.

If you can't manage to test the card in another PC within that 14 days return period for a refund then it would be a VERY strong consideration to just accept a refund instead. That might not resolve the situation for any future considerations, but it will get you a refund to consider your options.
I think that it is somewhat important to try and test that card in another system before the window of return ends. Out of interest what motherboard does your brother have...?

DON'T FLASH THE GPU ... it has 2 vbios and just flick between them to rule out a bad vbios, both being dead is very rare.

Flashing the gpu will void your warranty and could cause more damage when done incorrectly .

I think your issue is the motherboard not recognising the new gpu or the card is DOA, rule out card in another working pc with more recent specs for the motherboard.

This is all looking like a motherboard not liking the new gpu and why I always do a full update if I have an older system as things like this happen more often than not. Get the card tested on a more recent pc or return for refund and try another card from another brand and see if that helps if not then if you really want that gpu time to update motherboard too then if no othermotherboard BIOS updates available for it to recognise the new 40 series gpus.

Yeah hopefully my brothers PC has the space in the case and the PSU connections to be able to test it in there...

his PC is about 2yrs old i think so most like a 490\590 era mobo, should be slightly newer than mine at least

@tompitt87 I was in a situation having bought a Red Devil Ltd edition of their 6800XT cards. It performed great in all the AAA titles I tested. But in several Indie games I played its performance was on par, or worse, than the 1080Ti I used previously. I used the AMD support forums, not much use, and tried a fresh copy of W11 and W10. Not much changed at all. However I did return the card just within the 14 days return window and had a refund. Moving over to a 3070 and all was well.
The point I'm making is that even tho I wanted the 6800XT to work as I expected it to the 14 days ease of return window was the deciding factor on how long I would try to achieve that.
It just made things easier, but not the answer I initially wanted.
